Chapter 17 Mocha Coffee Cake

In her dream, Hilda saw Eric forcing Christine to put on the wedding dress that he sewed himself.

The Christine in the dream was just like the wax figure in the basement, just as beautiful, as charming, and just as lifeless.

Putting on her wedding dress, Christine grabbed Hilda's shoulders and asked her why she was going to the cemetery.Hilda kept explaining to Christine, but Christine seemed to have not heard, and was still questioning her with hatred.

Suddenly, Hilda saw a mirror, and Eric's face was reflected in that mirror!

Hilda woke up suddenly. She opened her eyes and looked at the sunlight coming in through the window. She looked at the unfamiliar surroundings and frowned, /Here is?

"Are you awake?" Daroga saw Hilda sit up and handed her a glass of milk. "How are you resting? Are you better?" "Thank you, I'm much better." Hilda took the glass, took a sip of milk, and replied to Daloga.

"Eric has sent Christine back to the opera house." Daloga said suddenly.Hilda stopped drinking the milk, just send it back, and Christine is fine. She put down the cup and asked, "Did Viscount Raul go to see Christine?" "Yes, I went to the opera house to find her early in the morning."

After a short pause, Hilda asked again, "So...how is Eric?"

Daroga knew that Hilda would ask this question, so he grinned: "What can I do? It's still the same as before. I locked myself underground and couldn't come out. I didn't eat or drink, and I didn't know what I was waiting for."

Why don't you eat or drink again?

Hilda got off the bed and put on her cloak, and said to Daloja, "I'm going out." Daroga waved his hand with a smile, beckoning her to go quickly.

She went out to the streets of Paris, bought some ingredients herself, and went back to Daloga's house and borrowed her kitchen.

She quickly popped the coffee almond sponge cake base with cream and chocolate and cocoa into the oven and started preparing the hazelnut mousse. She combined the chocolate she bought outside with the whipped cream and simmered until the chocolate was completely melted, stirring constantly with her hands.

After the coffee almond sponge cake came out of the oven to cool, she cut out a small piece and put hazelnut mousse on top of the sponge cake. Finally, a layer of chocolate ganache was added after squeezing the coffee butter frosting on top.

Hilda packed the mocha coffee cake, and Daloga opened the secret passage and let her in.

Although she hasn't come for a long time, the candle in the dark passage is still burning.Hilda picked up a candle holder from the wall, and followed the bright candlelight to Eric's basement again.

She didn't go in directly this time, and first reached out and knocked on the closed iron door. "Who!" Eric yelled from inside. "It's me." After Hilda answered, Eric didn't hear any voice.

So she asked again: "Can I go in?" Still no one answered, Hilda curled her lips and pushed open the door to go in.

The living room in the basement seems to have been fought, the music paper was torn all over the floor, and the flowers that were placed next to it were also thrown everywhere. But Eric will definitely not have a fierce dispute with others in the basement, after all, few people go here.So now it can only be caused by him alone.

Hilda put down the basket in her hand, turned around and went to Daloga's house, picked up a broom and went back to the basement again, sweeping up the fragments of paper and scattered flower petals on the ground.

After sweeping the ground, she knocked on Eric's door with a basket containing cakes.

"..."

"Eric?" Hilda whispered tentatively.

"If you have nothing to do, go." Eric said to Hilda outside the door after a while.Hearing Eric call her back, Hilda breathed a sigh of relief, it's fine, he's still willing to talk to her.

Hilda put the basket lightly on the door, and said again: "I brought a mocha coffee cake - put it at the door." When she spoke, Hilda turned and took the broom and was about to go out.

"Wait a minute, Hilda." Eric opened the door suddenly and called her.Hilda stopped in her tracks, turned her back and quietly waited for his next words.

But the basement was quiet again.

Eric looked at Hilda's back, and suddenly felt that this was different from before. He said to her softly, "I'm sorry for what happened yesterday."

Hilda clenched her hands when she heard Eric's words. She tried to calm herself down—but her body was still shaking.

"Is there anything else you want to say to me?"

She turned her back and asked, clutching the broom in her hand. But there was no sound she expected in the basement. She stood still for a while, thinking that Eric behind her had returned to his room, and then she took a step and walked out from the secret passage.

Eric didn't return to the room, he was still standing in front of the door, staring at Hilda's figure which gradually disappeared at the door of the basement. He wanted to speak, but he didn't know what he was going to say to her.

He didn't know how long he stood like this before he bent down to pick up the basket containing the cake Hilda made and took it back to the room.

After Eric carefully took out the mocha coffee cake with its exquisite appearance, he stood in front of a cabinet with the basket brought by Hilda.

He reached to open the cabinet, which was full of the baskets Hilda used to deliver food every time.
