[Superman] Number One Enemy

Chapter 11 Delicate and super; Losing a lover, the end of the world

Clark looked at Audrey puzzled.

"Business principles." Audrey said, took a sip of the champagne, and toasted Clark.

Clark thought, too.Audrey is the CEO.

"It must be tiring to live like this," Clark sighed.

"It's okay." Audrey tilted her head slightly, looking somewhere in the field, "I don't need everyone to like me. I have family and trusted friends. I don't care what other people think of me."

The standard strong woman speaks.Clark was thinking, and inadvertently looked in the direction of Audrey's line of sight.

It's Louise.

Louise, in her canary yellow dress, accompanied her husband. They met eyes from afar.

Audrey raised her glass as a respect to Louise and her husband.

White led his wife to come over.

Audrey glanced sideways at Clark beside her.

After seeing Louise and White, Clark seemed to have lost his soul, and he looked like a ghost at the end of the world, which made Audrey couldn't stand it at all.She slapped Clark on the ass angrily.

Clark returned to his senses in shock, and stared at Audrey in disbelief.

"Why, did someone insult you?" Audrey rolled her eyes like Natasha.

Clark has a hard time.

"Concentrate." Audrey stared straight ahead blankly, gritted her teeth and lowered the volume, "Remember who you are standing next to now. Don't embarrass me."

Clark perked up a little.

To make matters worse, however, Clark was not in his usual dejection today. He was well groomed by Audrey.

Louise kept staring at Clark.

Audrey reasonably believed that Louise should recognize Clark.

From the beginning to the end, only White and Audrey were talking, while Clark and Louise were in a daze.Fearing that something might happen, Audrey hurriedly ended the conversation.

As soon as their conversation was over, Clark escaped from the venue to breathe.Audrey saw that the direction Clark left was not the toilet at all, so she glanced at the Whites and saw Louise explaining something to White.

Audrey was expressionless, feeling extremely helpless in her heart.

She found Clark downstairs on the patio corner.

"Kent."

Clark could hear Audrey's footsteps without turning his head.He stared blankly at the bustling traffic under the hotel and the night scene of the city, until Audrey opened his mouth before he forced himself to pull himself together.

"You were very unprofessional just now." Audrey said, with a cold face, "Did you see a ghost? The soul was hooked? Forgot that you are still working?"

Clark could only take a deep breath, telling himself again, cheer up. "Sorry, sir."

Audrey narrowed her eyes, raised her head, and looked at Clark.

Clark waited to be scolded.

Suddenly, Audrey looked up at the nearby roof.It was the eaves of the balcony of the guest room downstairs, not far away, but not close either.

Clark was absent-minded, watching Audrey take off her high heels, pull up her skirt, and watched Audrey step back and run up.

Finally Clark realized something was wrong.

"Barnes you—"

Audrey calculated the distance correctly and jumped from the balcony railing to the balcony eaves. The process was so thrilling that Clark almost suffocated.

"What are you doing!" Clark jumped to the railing, looking around in horror, but he didn't dare to take his eyes off Audrey.Especially Audrey was wearing a misty white tulle dress today. In the night and the evening wind, her long hair was flying and her skirt was fluttering like clouds, as if she was about to disappear at any moment. The thought made Clark's palms sweat.

"Stay there and don't move. I'll go over. You don't move."

Audrey raised her eyebrows disapprovingly, stood on the eaves with her arms crossed, and waited for Clark.

Clark forgot that he was supposed to be normal. He easily jumped onto the eaves, grabbed Audrey, and heaved a sigh of relief.

"Why did you do this?" Clark asked, forgetting his position, his disguise, and Louise. He was frightened by Audrey, "Are you trying to commit suicide? Barnes, are you crazy?"

Audrey looked up.Without the heels, she had to look up to Clark.

"Not depressed now?" she asked, her tone calm.

Clark realized belatedly that Audrey was diverting his attention.

Audrey skillfully broke free from Clark's shackles, sat down, and put her high heels aside.

"Sit." She said, patting the seat beside her.

Clark could only sit down, with mixed emotions in his heart.

Then he watched in astonishment as Audrey miraculously conjured two bottles of beer from her handbag, which was no bigger than a palm...? !

"Small magic props from England." Audrey explained, shaking her hand bag, "I play investment, and one of the investees is making these things. They made a lot of magic props that Muggles can use, Very interesting pair of twins."

Clark took the beer dumbfounded. The glass of beer was still bubbling.

"Actually, it's a friend of my family." Audrey shrugged and raised the glass to Clark, "Have a drink. It's non-alcoholic, and it tastes pretty good."

Clark took a sip cautiously. He's not sure what he's drinking, what's happened to the earth in the past few years, and he's not sure who his boss is...

Audrey drank some and put the glass aside.Clark hadn't recovered yet, and his heart was filled with the series of shocks that Audrey gave him just now.The earth is terrible, he wants to go back to Krypton.

"Listen, Kent," Audrey said, squinting at Clark, "depression doesn't solve problems. Depression is just a feeling. All our feelings are cues to ourselves. You're wasting your life." On negative feelings? Is this Clark Kent?"

Clark was stunned for a moment, then smiled wryly, "You just can't comfort people, Barnes."

"I'm not comforting you. I'm asking you something."

"...my heart is not made of steel. I have feelings. Don't you?"

Clark asked back, turning his head to look at Audrey.

Audrey stared fixedly at Clark for a long time, facing the night sky in front of her, overlooking tall buildings.

"...Sorry." Clark whispered. He knew he had said the wrong thing.

Audrey shook her head. "A lot of people think the same way you do, Kent," she said, looking away. "They think I don't feel, I can't hurt. It's normal, it's okay. I just don't want to waste my time dealing with emotions. Emotions are things that can be ignored in my life."

Clark frowned slightly.

Under the night, they sat on the eaves of the balcony of the hotel room on the 24th floor, side by side, enjoying the breeze, with hot and bubbling butter beer in their hands.Audrey's shoes were placed beside her, letting the evening wind blow her skirt like clouds.

"Remember the news six years ago?" Suddenly, Audrey asked Clark, "The Joker kidnapped two poor young girls on the top floor of a Wayne Enterprises hotel and asked Batman to rescue them?"

Clark was taken aback.Of course he remembered the news, it was Louise who went to interview it.

And at that time, Louise was arguing with him as Superman, because he wanted to go to the universe to find the whereabouts of other clansmen.

Originally, Clark had no impression of this news until Audrey mentioned it.

"I remember," Clark said, recalling the outcome of the news, "Batman was gone by the time Lois arrived, and S.H.I.E.L.D. arrived before the Gotham police..."

Recalling this, Clark suddenly realized.

"One of them is you." Clark looked at Audrey in astonishment, "Why?"

Audrey stared straight ahead without saying a word.

Clark froze for a moment, guessing the truth.

"So you broke up," Clark said, affirmatively.

Audrey shrugged and lowered her head. "I'm hooking the roof so I'm alive. Luckily S.H.I.E.L.D. was fast and efficient. I almost died and he didn't worry too much."

"S.H.I.E.L.D. will come to my rescue anyway. He believes in it."

Clark couldn't find the right words to comfort Audrey. He sincerely felt bad for what happened to Audrey, but he also understood that sympathizing with Audrey would hurt her a second time.

"Losing a lover isn't the end of the world," Audrey said, looking sideways at Clark. "Don't let people get a chance to hurt you."

Clark was silent for a moment, and asked, "If he had chosen to save you—"

"We're still going to break up." Audrey interrupted Clark's assumption. She pursed her lips slightly, with a half-smile, "Rachel will become a thorn in his heart, his eternal white moonlight. He will be immersed in the regret of not saving Rachel, and ignore me as a mosquito on the wall Blood. And he will never love me the way he loves Rachel."

Clark was silent again. He understood Audrey's analogy. He has read that book.

"So, maybe that's a good thing," Audrey said, shaking the beer. "A Batman in the shadows of his past? It's going to be scary."

Clark was speechless. He knew that Audrey was right; it was the fact that she had a point in everything that made him feel so badly.

"Do you still want to go back to the meeting?" Clark asked, changing the subject.

"You still want to go back?" Audrey asked back, "No, I'm leaving."

Clark heard the sound of a propeller whirring. He looked up and saw the helicopter approaching slowly, hovering over them.

The helicopter lowers the rope ladder.Audrey grabbed hold of it, and climbed up with her high heels and clutch bag.

Clark couldn't laugh or cry at Audrey's high-profile exit.As expected, it came out of Stark Enterprises, and the style of painting is different from Metropolis.

"Come with me?" Audrey asked, turning her head to look down at Clark.

Clark looked up at Audrey in the wind.

She is like a goddess in the clouds, like a girl in Monet's painting, with beautiful hair color of roasted coffee beans, and deep and firm eyes.

Clark stretched out his hand unconsciously.

"I'll go with you," he said, and the corners of his mouth curled up.

The author has something to say:

The color scheme I set for Audrey's clothes is Dawn Rose, Turkey Rose, Crescent Moon, or any color in between.

Very different from my personality, the clothes I arranged for Audrey were all soft and pink. This shows the actual temperament of Audrey, and she is actually a bit of a clean freak emotionally.
