[Superman] Number One Enemy

Chapter 45 Overbearing Female Boss; I Love You Too, Always

Bruce glanced sideways at Clark. "Long time no see, little reporter." He said in a calm tone, but his body movements showed undisguised anger, "I heard that you moved to the Barnes family, is the next step to join the Avengers?"

Clark frowned slightly. "I don't quite understand what you want to express."

Bruce shrugged, lip twitching. "That's your problem. I just don't like you. Seriously, how could you let Audrey threaten to break with me? We have been friends for ten years."

Clark looked at Bruce in surprise, and belatedly realized that perhaps the other party's anger was not entirely aimed at him.

"……Feel sorry?"

"See? That's why I don't like you." Bruce said, managing to keep a perfect smile on his face.He lowered his volume, patted Clark on the shoulder, made a familiar hug, and punched Clark hard in the stomach as he approached.

Rao is Clark with his steel body, this punch really hurts a bit. After the beating, Bruce Wayne happily walked away, and Clark swore he saw him smile triumphantly. How come no one ever said Batman was so childish in private? !That's enough.

Then Clark discovered that the most naive thing about Young Master Wayne was not just pretending to be friends with him at the banquet, but actually punching him secretly.Bruce Wayne was wasting his time!So that Louise could come and talk to him!For God's sake, Wayne just wanted him to break up with Audrey, didn't he?What a pity he was going to disappoint the young master.

Clark guessed that Louise was asking him about the Indian Ocean.Surprisingly, not so.

"I hear you're writing about the Naromi Civil War."

Louise cuts to the chase and gets right to the point. "If there is no accident, we are partners. We set off on Wednesday night, and I have already connected with the locals. You act as the photographer."

Clark frowned.

"you want to go?"

"Why, I can't?" Louise asked back, looking directly at Clark defiantly. "I'm sorry, but they specifically asked that only female reporters be allowed to interview. I'm the best candidate."

Intuition told Clark that something was wrong. There is not much time for Clark to think carefully at the moment, he has to face Louise first.

"Louise, this report is dangerous, it might be a trap──"

"So? Are you saying I'm incompetent? You haven't been doing the Daily Planet's war coverage for six years now, Kent. You're looking like one of Barnes' lackeys now, with no opinions whatsoever."

Louise is so righteous.Clark could barely see the disdain and jealousy in her eyes.

"Why are you targeting Audrey?" Clark scowled. He didn't like that sentence.

"Am I wrong?" Louise just sneered.

"That's not the case." Clark explained, suppressing his dissatisfaction, "Louise, listen to me, according to my investigation, the Naromi Civil War has a lot to do with Lex Luthor──"

"Is this about Lex?" Louise laughed, shaking her head at Clark. "Listen, Clark. I know you and Lex have a history, but you were friends in college."

Clark felt even colder. "Louise, are you speaking for Lex?"

"What about you?" Louise asked back, "Aren't you also defending Barnes?"

Clark was fed up with this kind of Q&A.Even if he knows better than anyone else, as long as he quarrels with Louise, things will turn out like this; Louise has always been a particularly sharp-tongued reporter, which is why she won the Pulitzer Prize. But when Louise applies this to their disputes, things can get as bad as hell.

Louise stared at Clark, her expression gradually slowing down.

"Maybe this really has something to do with Lex," she said, looking up at Clark tenderly. "Then we should find out, shouldn't we? We all know him."

Clark shook his head again and again. "No, Louise, you don't understand. He's changed a lot over the years."

Louise frowned and skipped the topic altogether. "I'm the man for this story. Even if it's a trap, aren't you afraid? We've had worse, Clark. We can handle it."

For a moment, Clark wanted to ask Louise, had this interview been discussed with her husband White?God, he was starting to feel sorry for White, and he missed Audrey so much.He really shouldn't have forced Audrey to say things he didn't want to say, he should have apologized.

"Do I have a choice?" Clark murmured, sighing, "I see."

On the way back, Clark had many guesses in his mind; Luthor's conspiracy, Louise's attitude, Brandon's situation, and Audrey's anger.

I also know that Audrey will not be happy to hear that he and Louise are going to Nerome for an interview. He just made Audrey so angry that he wanted to leave the house, what should he do now?

56 hours until departure.

Clark felt he had to do something.

When he got home, Brandon was taken out by James and Natasha.Steve has a job and Audrey is the only one left at home. She sat in a conspicuous position in the study, deliberately ignoring Clark.

Clark slumped his shoulders.Too.He knew it would be like this.He went up to the second floor with the bouquet he'd bought; striped carnations, champagne roses, and guava.

Audrey seemed to be concentrating on her work without raising her head.Clark walked up to Audrey, knelt down on one knee, and presented a bouquet.

"I want to cook you a big meal." Clark said, looking at Audrey with some apprehension and expectation.

Audrey finally couldn't hold back her face. She stared at Clark coldly, pursing her lips.

"Why? Did you decide not to ask me about Brandon's life after going out for a while?"

Clark couldn't help curling his mouth. He knew that Audrey meant to forgive him.

"I love you," he said, stepping forward to hug Audrey, "even if you don't believe me. I love you."

Audrey turned her head sideways and looked at the bouquet lying on the table, showing an aggrieved expression from an angle that Clark couldn't see.

"I'm just trying to protect everyone." Audrey whispered, wrapping her arms around Clark's shoulders and pressing her face against the crest of his neck. "I love you too, Clark. I've always loved you."

Clark noticed again that there was something strange about Audrey's words. But this time he decided not to ask too much, and believed that Audrey would tell him the truth sooner or later after waiting patiently.

"I have something to tell you." Clark let go of Audrey, held Audrey's shoulders with both hands, and asked her to stand up too, while he leaned forward so that they were at eye level.

"Louise is going to Nerome for an interview. She named me as her partner."

"so?"

Unexpectedly, Audrey didn't respond.Clark realized belatedly.

"You already knew about this?"

Audrey rolled her eyes like Natasha. "I'm your boss, honey. Of course I know about it, Kara told me. That's why I contacted Tony and Raven last night."

Clark twitched his lips in embarrassment. He even forgot that Audrey was their boss, and Kara was their assistant, so he must know everything in the company.

"You... can I... really go?"

Clark looked at Audrey hesitantly.Audrey raised her eyebrows disapprovingly.

"I thought I was being obvious enough, or you didn't want to go," she said, looking at Clark with a goofy look.

Clark smiled wryly, lowered his head, and looked at Audrey with innocent eyes like a puppy. It was a kind of aggrieved expression, but he tried his best not to look too aggrieved. It was obvious that this man was not good at showing weakness and expressing his feelings, but he worked very hard to do it.

Audrey rolled her eyes to herself and sighed.

"Tony has sent all the things you need just now, and Charles will take a look at the situation over there." Audrey said, pointing to the corner of the study, "Over there, go and have a look. Most of them are not weapons, I know You don't need a weapon either, but I hope you have one or two just in case."

"For Louise?" Clark asked, confused.

"...Are you really trying to piss me off?" Audrey glared at Clark with a straight face, "Go."

Clark obediently flipped through the mini arsenal Tony sent.He thought it would be nice to have a lightweight chest armor against kryptonite, at least he wouldn't be afraid of the opponent killing him when he encountered kryptonite.Another flashbang that unleashes solar energy would be nice too, and he decided to bring two more.

"I think the recording equipment should be captured." Clark said helplessly, turning his head to look at Audrey at the desk, "So is the positioning device. Maybe I shouldn't take the risk of bringing these equipment."

"I don't need it." Audrey replied, arms folded, leaning against the edge of the table, expressionless, "Tony's satellite will follow you. Besides, Ruiwen has already mixed into the group of mercenaries."

Clark froze, thinking he had heard wrong. "What?"

"I said Riven has long been in that group of mercenaries." Audrey repeated, "Recently, the X-Men are investigating the disappearance of young mutants for no reason, and found that it has something to do with Stryker. After the investigation, Stryker was found K and Luthor have a connection, possibly a partnership."

Clark frowned. "Strike? Who's that?"

"A big villain in the mutant world. Basically only targeting mutants. In short, according to Charles and his investigation, this guy is probably the murderer who kidnapped their college children. In the end, the clues that can prove that they have traded are in Neromi , the group of mercenary leaders that Luther placed in Nerome has a lot to do with this matter. Riven wants to catch him."

After Audrey finished explaining, Clark almost understood. He walked over and put his arms around her waist.

"It seems that the bad guys are all bad together." Clark sighed, his forehead resting lightly on the top of Audrey's head, "You and Brandon can't have anything to do. Wait for me, I'll be back soon."
