Late autumn

Chapter 1 [Wedge]

In late autumn in Tokyo, the streets are covered with fallen leaves. The leaves still fluttering in the wind fly very lightly and very high. But finally fell to the ground after a flurry of dancing, and fell into a deep, eternal sleep.

"Sherry, do you like fallen leaves?" He asked me as he walked the streets.

My thoughts were pulled back by his voice, and I turned to look at him beside me, "Why do you ask that?"

"I see that you are obsessed with this scenery. Why, do you still yearn for the freedom of these fallen leaves?" He didn't look at me, and leaned over to pick up a withered yellow leaf. "Years ago you said to me that you had never been free, now?"

"I have never had real freedom until now," I replied.

"Since you don't have it, don't ask for it." He crushed the leaves in his hands, "Sherry, as you can see, they are free, and the next second, what awaits them is death."

I don't speak anymore. It is true that I yearn for freedom, but I know that kind of beautiful things do not belong to me.I looked down at my hands, directly and indirectly, how many lives have been killed by these hands?I lost count. There are my partners, there are my test subjects, some I know, and some I don't know. But no matter what, I know very well that those who have passed away will never come back.Either willingly or unwillingly, when I bear this fate, I know that I have embarked on a road of no return. If I have to trace back when this life started, I think it was then, and it was this person in front of me that made me truly become Sherry.

These years have experienced many late autumns, with him and without him, beautiful and bleak. Our story started in that late autumn and turned in another late autumn. I don’t know if we will be lucky enough to walk through the next late autumn...
