Remembering Me
Chapter 20
"Potter has gone to the Department of Mysteries, Trap."
Fiery red feathers fell before Remus and I, and I don't know how many members of the Order of the Phoenix received the same message. Within 2 minutes, Kingsley and Tonks emerged from the furnace.
"We modified the memories of the people at Floo Network's monitoring headquarters, so they will think our activities are authorized." Kingsley explained to the worried Remus, "Others should have received our news so they can come as soon as possible."
I stood by, I was calm.
While talking, Moody also stepped out of the stove, his steps were still heavy even on the thick carpet.
"Any specific information?" he asked in that trademark snarling voice.
Apparently not, and if it wasn't for news from Snape, we wouldn't even have known about it.Then again, if he'd been serious about teaching Harry Occlumency, maybe it wouldn't have happened at all.But now is clearly not the best time to sort out the extent of Snotluck's beating.
"That's enough, let's go." I said.
"Wait, Sirius..."
"What's there to wait for? Waiting for Voldemort to get Harry back?" I looked straight at Remus, who looked a bit surprised by my almost ferocious interruption, "Shut up and swallow what comes next, Moon face. Jaime's son, my godson, is in danger, and if you tell me to take refuge in your comfort zone, I'll knock out your front teeth, understand?"
For a moment, the living room was so quiet that only the crackling of the fire could be heard.
"No, I just wanted to say that someone has to inform Dumbledore." Remus didn't flinch, "he always has a way of knowing when something big happens, and if he comes back to headquarters, someone has to tell him what happened who."
No one can stay mad at a guy who is this calm for long, and after staring at him for a few seconds I realize I'm wasting my time.
Well, those who need to send a message, this is easy to handle.
"Kreacher!"
Kreacher seems to be trying to hold back a smile as he communicates the order, and if I'd paid attention I'd have realized that it was unnaturally almost escalating to surreal levels, but I only cared if I was speaking fast enough.
Soon I sincerely wished that I had omitted the step of passing the order, and when the fire turned green again, the four magic wands pointed at the strange woman who came out at the same time. She raised her hands and glanced at me after making sure the scene was stable, and I pulled out my wand and walked forward.
"The original form is revealed."
Everyone but me and her breathed a sigh of relief when Jessica returned to her original self.
I still have a lot of free time these days, so I spend a good portion of it thinking about that unusual conversation.I've never thought so hard about what to say when I see someone again, or thought I'd be so unhappy seeing her.
After analyzing the current situation, no one else appeared, and everyone present knew that they couldn't wait any longer.
"The plan is simple. Floo to the nearest place to the Department of Mysteries that can be reached through the fireplace on the seventh floor of the Ministry of Magic." Moody growled, "After going down, the two of you will split up and take Harry as soon as you find him." Go away. Remember Harry's life is the priority, and you can't fight even if your partner is down around you. Be vigilant at all times! Now divide into groups."
I walked up to Jessica in two steps, and she gave me a quick look.I know I don't look so much like living in hell, at least I don't smell like a week of old wine.
Tonks smacked her lips loudly. She had wanted to take Remus, but ended up being rationed to Kingsley because they had more experience working together.I relax to myself wondering if that means Kingsley is better at cleaning up the mess Tonks makes.
The green fire was burning again in the fireplace, and Moody's scarred face looked even more terrifying in the flickering light. His gloomy gaze slowly swept over everyone present, and his fake eyes rolled back to look at the furnace that was about to enter.
"Action!" he roared, stepping into the flames first.
Remus and Kingsley followed, and Tonks waved back to Jessica with a smile before bending over.I watched the hem of her robe disappear completely, and said very quickly in an emotionless tone: "This matter is over..."
"Wait until it's over." Jessica interrupted me even faster.
So I stepped into the fireplace and shouted my destination, letting the heat and the rotation take hold.
I don't know if it's a psychological effect, but the contrast between light and dark when coming out of the flames is surprising.Jessica appeared right behind me, scanning her surroundings. After a brief exchange, we quickly ran down the stairs in the same order as we walked into the fireplace. After five turns, we came to an unpleasant and extremely narrow corridor. wear us all.
After about a hundred meters, the corridor forked into two roads. Moody made a gesture, and he and Kingsley, as the most experienced of us, walked into the left one, and the others took the other.I vaguely doubted that this ghost place would separate us one by one, but soon the road came to an end, and a black door appeared in front of us.
A child's scream came from behind the door.
Harry is inside.
"on!"
Harry was standing on a platform confronting a group of Death Eaters, and Lucius Malfoy jumped forward to take something from him, only to be knocked back by Tonks' Stunning Spell as soon as he turned around.A small part of my mind noticed Moody and Kingsley rushing out of another door that opened just beside me, and the rest locked eyes with Harry as he approached his wounded friend unsuspectingly.
A guy in a cloak blocked my way, and a few rounds later I caught a glimpse out of the corner of Harry's neck with a towering guy.I became anxious and almost got hit by the green light.Jessica separated me from my opponent with an Iron Armor Charm, and she's dealing with both of them now.Without further ado, I rushed in Harry's direction.
He dragged his wounded companion to try to stay away from the battle group, but unfortunately he got closer and closer to Moody who was dueling behind him.Everything seemed to stand still for a moment as the distance between us shortened to the last few feet, and Moody was hit by a red light right in front of the door, his fake eye arcing in the air.The attacker dodged my stun spell and turned around. I rushed so fast that I didn't have time to cast the second spell, so I shouldered him.
For a few seconds, the duel turned into a hand-to-hand fight. My head was a little dazed after being hit a few times, and I relied on instinct to distinguish the direction of the incoming spell.Harry hit my opponent with a beautiful full-body binding spell from behind me, and he made the biggest novice mistake: getting so caught up in the thrill of taking down enemies that he forgot to pay attention to his surroundings.I pounced on him and yelled "nice job" and pressed his head, and two stun spells passed over our heads.
I pushed the two boys bending over the spell tracks, and Harry was clutching a prophecy ball, which the Death Eaters must have been desperately trying to get their hands on.After reaching the bottom of the steps at the other end of the room, I tried to catch my breath and ordered Harry: "Now I want you to leave—"
There was a sharp and familiar laugh, and I turned my head subconsciously. On the opposite side of the room, Tonks' limp body was rolling down the steps, and my cousin Bellatrix Lestrange was moving towards Charged in this direction, while firing killing curses in all directions.I could clearly see the side of Jessica's head brushed by one of the green lights, and some of the blonde hair flew away.
"Harry, take the prophecy ball, take your friends and run!"
Then I couldn't get any energy to focus on anything else, Bellatrix cast spells fast and hard, but that's the second thing, there was something crazy about her that was scary. The surrounding chaos became a blurred background, and I was so absorbed in the duel that I didn't care if I was surprised by a surprise attack or hit by a streamer from another direction.
After dodging two green lights, and hitting another red light, a strange but familiar trembling slipped down the spine, and the hot blood flowed through the limbs and bones from numb fingertips due to the tremor. There was a sound echoing throughout the cavernous room, it could hardly be called laughter, and it took me some effort to realize that it was coming from my throat, and I might have been startled by it another time.I saw Bellatrix staring at me, eyes tearing apart, and felt my mouth set the first words that came to mind.
"Come on, you can do better!"
I watched as a red light passed under my arm and hit my chest.
The spinning world stopped and went away quickly. My subconscious immediately gave the answer - it's just a stun spell, it's okay, at least until she fixes it for you.
It's a shame it's quitting so soon.
A low whisper came.I guess I'm backing away because the sound is getting clearer, but I can't be sure the whisper is coming from behind me, it's more like crawling out from somewhere deep in my chest and permeating me from the inside out .
No syllable, no meaning; not a confession, not a warning. It's the kind of voice you'd love to hear before you die, reminding you of everything you left behind in that world, or rather remembering everything that left you in this world—guiding your return.
So I had no doubt that I was going to die.
That's not bad, the anger and hatred have all subsided, and there's not even a sense of regret or despair.I wondered many times what I would see at this moment—James, Remus, Lily, the traitor, and then I saw Jessica, like in an upside-down dream, quiet And looked at me inquisitively.
We've never discussed it, but I think she remembers it, because it's not easy to forget being knocked down by a bloody murderer who fell from the sky.I knew it was over when I got knocked out by that young Auror, in fact it was over that Halloween night.I catch the only clear face in sight and remember it like some sort of memorial.
Jessica will never know how long I've spent thinking about her, which had nothing to do with emotion or desire, just what a dying person wants to fill in an empty heart.
Death reached out and brushed the back of my neck softly, and I thought, I love her.
That's the last thing I can think of.
Fiery red feathers fell before Remus and I, and I don't know how many members of the Order of the Phoenix received the same message. Within 2 minutes, Kingsley and Tonks emerged from the furnace.
