Alice's Travels
Chapter 9
Since the conversation between Alice and Harry that day, they seldom get together again.
Even though the conversation didn't turn out to be a bad breakup, and they probably thought Alice had something to say, they were still disappointed that Alice wasn't on their side.
There is no doubt that the relationship between them is estranged.
Hermione had been trying to find evidence to convince Alice that Snape had done those things, but she hadn't succeeded until mid-December.
Alice was more silent than usual. In fact, apart from Malfoy's occasional provocation, almost no one spoke to her anymore. In addition to studying, she now has one more job every day—observing Snape. On the one hand, she wants to find information about the time-traveling child, and on the other hand, she wants to see if he is really a A person who will harm the life of a student.
Under such circumstances, with the cold snow and ice outside, time flies quietly, and Christmas is coming in a blink of an eye.
Hogwarts was going to be on vacation, Hermione chose to go home, Ron and Harry didn't - they signed the detention list, and neither did Alice - she had nowhere to go.
The school has begun to be decorated with beautiful hanging streamers and many towering Christmas trees. The holiday spirit is strong and everyone is very happy-nothing gets students more excited than the holidays.
The more festive atmosphere filled the surroundings, the more lonely Alice became, and the more free time she had, which made her more homesick than ever.
Alice is sitting in Hagrid's hut, and the master is making her a cup of strong tea.
"Have something to drink, Alice," said Hagrid, "you don't look very well."
"Thank you." Alice took a sip from the teacup, lowered her eyes and said nothing.
"You don't spend much time with Harry and the others lately—" Hagrid looked at her with some concern, "Oh, I mean—you're good friends, aren't you?"
"Yes, Hagrid." Alice looked up at him, "but friends don't have to be together all the time, do you understand?"
"You're right," said Hagrid, "but you seem a little unhappy."
She is not happy, Alice thought, but she cannot be happy, and what can she do about missing her loved ones every festive season, she is also desperate.
"Hagrid, have you ever heard of a magic that can travel through time? For example, it can make people go back in time?" Alice asked tentatively.
"Oh, as far as I know, no," said Hagrid. "Traveling through time - it's too hard - you should ask Dumbledore, he might know."
"I'm just curious." After Alice finished, she didn't bring up the topic about it.
Dumbledore was indeed a powerful wizard, but she dared not ask him, or even reveal a little information.Different from Hagrid's dullness, Dumbledore is a wise and sensitive old man. Once this kind of problem is noticed by him, he may soon realize his own problem-a person whose soul travels through time and space to possess children Well, she didn't dare to think about how she would be treated in the wizarding world, and no matter what the result was, the decision was in their hands—those wizards, and she couldn't resist at all.
At least she can't trust anyone if she doesn't have the ability to protect herself.
In comparison, the disputes with those children seemed insignificant.
Everyone has their own thinking mode, and it is difficult for you to reverse a person's thinking, so she can only manage herself.Just thinking about what Harry said - Snape wanted to kill him, kill? This kind of thing that seemed to be far away from her was suddenly brought to her.Alice felt a little uneasy in her heart. This was the second time that the word death was so close to her. The first time was when she first wore it—she was in a car accident and almost died; the second time it happened to her on his friend Harry - who nearly fell to his death from a height.
"Hagrid, what kind of person do you think Snape is?" Alice asked suddenly.
"You asked him before," said Hagrid, puzzled by Alice's tendency to ask about Snape, "he was a great potions teacher - you know, although Harry They didn't like him very much, but—he was really good."
Alice was amused by Hagrid's answer. In fact, she should have thought that Hagrid couldn't answer anything, but this did not prevent him from being a lovely person.
"Oh, you laughed, that's good," said Hagrid, satisfied.
Alice continued to smile at him.
Chatting with Hagrid put Alice in a good mood for a while, and then she was walking back from the cabin and met Malfoy - he stood there with his arms folded, looking like a delicate statue.
If he guessed correctly, he was waiting there to block her.
"Hoo hoo, look who this is?" Malfoy said deliberately drawn out, "I guess you want to learn some hunting ground skills from Hagrid so that you can earn some pocket money for yourself, Art Man?"
Alice didn't speak, and was thinking in her mind whether to continue to give this platinum young master who always liked to put on a show, or simply make a few threats like he did to Parkinson.
"Did I hit the mark, Altman?" Malfoy said triumphantly, seeing that she was silent, raising his chin slightly.
He's not as good as Parkinson's yet, Alice thought, choosing the former in the end.
"How can you be as rich as you, Malfoy," Alice said with a slight smile. "How is your spell learning? Have you memorized the herbal class and the history of magic? Oh, and the most important thing - Transfiguration Have you learned all the skills? Professor McGonagall said that he will check when he comes back from vacation!"
Malfoy's face became ugly, obviously he also thought of his not very good homework - except for potions, he put down a "wait and see" and left.
Alice's mood changed for the better.
After the holidays, the school is almost empty. The usual crowded corridors and chirping noises disappeared instantly, and Alice was not used to the deserted appearance.
Except for going to the library to read books every day, Alice stays alone in her dormitory.Harry and Ron mostly stayed in the Gryffindor lounge, and she could sometimes see them having fun outside, and occasionally they would say hello to each other when they met, and then go away.
There was another heavy snowfall on Christmas Eve, and almost everywhere was covered in white snow.
Alice used the school's owl to give Hermione, Harry, Ron, Neville, Hagrid and Snape Christmas presents - a group of small animals made of paper. She really has no money, so she can only do it all by herself. She gave Hermione a paper butterfly, Harry a paper dog, Ron a paper owl, Neville a paper lion, Hagrid a paper dragon, and Snape a paper snake—hope They won't be thrown away by him, and then cast a spell on each of them so that they can move like little people and understand some simple commands, such as running errands or something-this may be their only use.
The next day, Alice also received packages from those people - except Harry, Ron and Snape. She guessed that Harry and Ron probably didn't expect her to give them gifts, and as for Snape, she didn't think about it at all.
At the Christmas banquet, Alice saw Harry, Ron, and Ron's twin brothers, George and Fred, and they walked towards Alice together.
Harry and Ron looked a little embarrassed, while Ron's two older brothers put their shoulders on each other and looked at Alice with a smile.
"Thank you for the gift," Harry said, "I didn't think I'd get a present—it's always been like this before, but I didn't expect you to be with me this year. It's one of the happiest I've ever been." It's Christmas, I guess we're still friends, right?"
Alice smiled and said, "Of course."
"And me," said Ron hastily, "I really like that owl you gave me..."
However, his words were immediately interrupted by Fred, "We are curious, how did you do it?"
"That funny owl is so funny!" George went on.
"Just a little magic," Alice explained, "just to make them move."
"Oh no, you gave it life!" Fred exclaimed.
"And it can understand us!" George continued.
"I'm curious too," Harry said, looking at Alice, "how did you make it 'live'?"
Alice didn't quite understand their doubts. In fact, in her opinion, it was a very simple matter. She just pulled the magic power out of her body and concentrated it on the small piece of paper through the wand. Each little piece of paper only needs a little bit of magic power, and they are not really 'lived', they just seem to have a little spirituality, and they can complete some errands such as delivering things.
But Alice instinctively didn't want to explain too much, so she said vaguely, "I just used some magic."
Fortunately, they didn't ask any more questions, but turned to talk about other things. After continuing the friendly conversation for a while, they went back to the long table and sat down.
