Main text Chapter 180 Massacre
(The third update)
Derventa, a town where Bosnian Serbs gather, is located on the border of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The continuous artillery fire over the past few months has turned this city into a ruined ruin. People hurriedly walked through the broken arms and scars of building rubble, looking for food to fill their stomachs. NATO's economic blockade and military siege have deprived residents of their last hope of survival. As for the food dropped by American transport planes, it is often looted by those militia organizations and becomes the army's rations.
Not only that, these civilians still live in the shadows. The Serbian Tigers, White Eagles and other militia organizations that are not subject to formal constraints even use small-caliber rifles equipped with sniper scopes to shoot Croatian children who go to the river to fetch water for fun. As long as the gunshots are heard, there will be a child who will fall to the riverside forever, with a small bucket rolling beside him and a pool of blood that has seeped deep into the mud.
No one dared to save him, because the sniper's scope was still searching for prey by the river. Even his mother could only hide in the distance, covering her mouth and crying, watching the child's body being torn and eaten by wild dogs. In a turbulent country, the victims are always those innocent civilians.
This is not only a civil war in a country, but also a war for everyone.
The war magnified the dark side of human nature. The survivors began to undergo moral tests every day, whether to rescue those unfortunate people or to loot the food, medicine or bullets of innocent survivors. Some people abandoned their conscience in order to survive, and some fell under the muzzle of the gun for a mouthful of food. War is a continuation of political cruelty. Those who have never experienced those dark times will never know the preciousness of peace.
Delventa is much more unfortunate than other cities, because it is a city that the Croatian army and the Bosnian Serbs have repeatedly fought for. Often, the vicious Serbs have just come today, and the Croatians will fight for it again the next day. The difference is that Croatia will plunder the food rations of Serbian residents, while the Serbian army pretends not to see it.
The Croatians have occupied Delventa for five days, which is longer than any previous time. The Serbian residents are thinking that Delventa should not change hands again this time. To be honest, they don’t care which army occupies the city. They just want to survive. Live well and let this damn war end as soon as possible.
But at this time, survival has become an unattainable luxury.
It’s a rare day without artillery and gunshots. Those Serbian residents quietly poked their heads out of the ruins and walked anxiously on the street. In the ruins, the dilapidated shops are looking for all kinds of food that can fill their stomachs. Even a canned food that has expired, or a small box of compressed biscuits.
When the poor residents were looking for food, the sudden sound of gunfire made them alert instantly. They looked up and saw a man with a gun robbing another person’s package. Then he was shot dead on the street. The local residents seemed to have gotten used to this situation. They just shook their heads silently, watched the man slowly die in despair, and then continued to find the food they wanted in the ruins. The war has made them numb, and the only hope is to keep themselves alive.
Just when they were secretly glad that they could fill their stomachs today, two army green trucks suddenly rushed over. The residents thought that the Croatian army came to rob them again, and fled in panic. However, the army that came out of nowhere used rifles to stop them.
When these people calmed down, they found that these troops were all Serbs. The Serbian residents secretly breathed a sigh of relief, it seemed that the food in their hands could be preserved today.
But they were wrong. Everything was not that simple. The leading officer walked out from behind the soldiers. He glanced at the dusty Serbian residents and asked in an unfriendly tone, "Are you all Serbs?" Of course, this was just a superfluous nonsense, but the people still nodded vigorously under the threat of the gun. They could not survive if they did not recognize their Serbian identity. No matter which armed force, the way of executing civilians is simple and rough, without any drag. "How many of you are gathered here?" The officer continued to ask. After waiting for a while, no one answered. He was a little impatient. He took out a pistol and pointed it at one of the people's heads, forcing him to ask, "I repeat, how many people are there here? If you don't answer. I will let you die." "Three, oh no, forty-two." The threatened man almost closed his eyes and gritted his teeth to answer, fearing that he would be shot directly if he was a step slower. "Very good." The officer nodded with satisfaction, and he turned around and gave the order to the soldiers around him to massacre this group of compatriots. He said almost cold-bloodedly, "Kill them all. Don't leave any alive."
Instantly, gunshots rang out, flames flew, and people standing in front of the guns kept falling down like harvested wheat fields. Blood and pierced cans flew together, and the people who were shot fell on the ruins with a burning chest. The officer who gave the order to massacre without emotion smoked a cigarette with a smile on his lips. When no one could stand up, he asked the soldiers to search every body carefully, shoot a few more times, and after confirming that everyone was dead, the officer let the soldiers get on the truck and leave.
There will be no patrolling Croatian troops here today. The bribed Croatian military personnel will turn a blind eye to this massacre. Only the Yugoslav volunteer colonel officer named Kavilav knows that his superiors have issued this order to massacre his own people.
"There is nothing to be pitied. They are all victims of war. Moreover, the death of these people can also be exchanged for the opportunity to increase the bargaining chips of the Bosnian Serbs at the negotiation table. Why not do it?" Kavilav said nonchalantly when the adjutant beside him asked why he did this.
He threw the nearly burned cigarette out of the window and continued to talk to himself, "The sewage will be poured on the Croatian army, and then we can shape the image of a group of evil military thugs. This is why the superiors expressly forbid the regular army to wage war against civilians without being attacked. We must not only completely defeat them militarily, but also occupy the commanding heights of criticism morally. War is dirty. As long as we can win, the means are not important at all, understand?"
