Stupid Odin
#20 - Asgard
The world is a giant, makeshift stage!
Downes never imagined that this statement would apply everywhere.
In the eyes of mortals, Downes, the God-King who returned to the divine realm after creation, should be living a life of supreme bliss.
They would never imagine that in Asgard, the divine realm under clear skies, a group of giants and deities were discussing some rather undignified matters.
"Just build a [Longhouse]."
"The weather is so nice, can we use less straw for the roof?"
"The walls can be a bit thinner too."
"Great, it's settled then."
Upon hearing this, Downes nearly fainted.
In a way, the Longhouse was an 'invention' of Paul's.
The main structural components of a Longhouse are large wooden posts, deeply dug into the ground to provide a solid foundation.
The walls are usually made of wattle and daub, a mixture of interwoven branches or wooden sticks plastered with clay and straw.
The roof is covered with straw or sod.
Sometimes, when the roof collapsed or leaked snow, Paul would casually toss a large animal hide over the damaged area as a temporary fix, waiting until the blizzard ended to repair the house properly.
The Longhouse design is very simple: rectangular, with a fireplace or hearth in the center.
Longhouses have no windows, but there might be small openings near the roof for ventilation.
The entrance is usually located at one or both ends of the building.
The Longhouse personally crafted by this second-generation Aesir deity was only different from the Viking version in that it was a dozen times larger, a full fifty meters tall.
Otherwise, Bestla wouldn't have been able to enter at all.
Fortunately, this time, the old father's terrible idea was rejected by Odin before Downes even had to speak.
"Father, I object!" Odin said loudly, not forgetting to glance at Downes with a slightly guilty look.
Seeing that Downes seemed curious, he mustered his courage and continued, foolishly in his own opinion, "We Aesir are the rulers of the Nine Realms.
If we still live in such ordinary houses, wouldn't we be ruling this world in vain?"
Downes stroked his chin, admitting that Odin was, for once, right.
Over there, finding that Downes didn't object, Odin grew bolder and bolder.
He waved his arms passionately, stirring everyone up, "Think about it, if mortals create great and earth-shattering achievements, eager to come to Asgard to serve us, but see that our houses are no different from theirs, except for being a little bigger, wouldn't they be disappointed?
Wouldn't that damage the majesty of our divine race!"
Downes thought: Sure enough, Odin never disappoints when it comes to extravagance.
He smiled, "Then, according to your idea, Odin, what kind of palace should I build?"
"It must not only be huge, but also dazzling! Eye-catching! Something that mortals can't take their eyes off the moment they arrive in Asgard! Something that deeply shocks them."
Odin's gaze wandered around, naturally landing on the mountain of gold that Downes had 'accidentally' placed on the surface of Asgard when he reshaped the world.
A mountain of gold with a purity exceeding 80%.
If he hadn't conveniently collected it during the reshaping, he didn't know how much manpower and resources it would take to mine it later.
Seeing the gold, Odin's eyes lit up, and he pointed, "I think gold would be great!"
Downes clapped his hands in praise, "Oh! My good brother, you've finally come up with a good idea."
While mistakes should be pointed out, Downes wouldn't skimp on encouragement when Odin did something right, otherwise the shadow in Odin's heart would expand infinitely, and one day he would explode with Downes.
There were enough troubles in the Jötunheimr world, Downes had no interest in forcing Odin to rebel.
His praise made Odin overjoyed, "Hahaha! I always thought my ideas would be useful."
Wili stood beside him,憨憨陪着笑.
Paul then made a small request, "Downes, you can do whatever you want, Father won't object.
But don't forget who we defeated to become the masters of this world."
Downes nodded slightly, "Ymir and Surtr will contribute to this palace."
With the general direction set, Downes wouldn't let these guys with extremely high muscle content in their brains decide on the specific building shape and decoration style.
He transferred 9999 craftsmen of various races from the lower realm, and with the help of the giants, three magnificent and resplendent buildings stood on the mountains of Asgard after a year.
When mortals come to Asgard via the Rainbow Bridge, they will immediately see this golden palace as soon as they set foot on the land of the divine realm.
From a distance, it seems to float calmly in the air, but in reality, the slender steps are blocked by the clouds and mist of the mountain.
The huge palace, three hundred meters high, has ash wood, the same as the World Tree, as its pillars, and the wood is inlaid with gold sheets more than 10 centimeters thick.
It looks like a giant pipe organ, high in the middle and low on both sides, almost pyramid-shaped.
Entering through the fifty-meter-high pure gold gate, the first thing that catches the eye is the exaggerated atrium with a ceiling a full 100 meters high.
Even if a hundred giants were to drink and make merry here at the same time, there would be no sense of crowding.
In fact, only a few chairs are placed here now, these are the divine thrones belonging to the Aesir gods, and the thrones for some giants with sufficient status.
Huge silver braziers hang down from the dome of the atrium, filled with the blood essence of Surtr, the ancestor of the fire giants.
These self-igniting flames will burn for a hundred years before extinguishing.
But as long as they are taken to Muspelheim, the realm of fire, to recharge, they can be used again.
With these 'immortal flames', the entire interior of the palace will be illuminated like daytime, regardless of day or night.
The surrounding walls are all made of gold.
In the future, craftsmen will carve reliefs here to sing the praises of God-King Downes's feat of killing the two ancestral giants.
There are also more places that will be temporarily left to carve more epic wars worthy of praise and recording.
This magnificent golden palace is commonly known as [Gold Palace] [Gladsheim]!
This will be the place where the gods hold meetings.
To the right of the Golden Palace is a Silver Hall, with walls entirely cast from silver.
God-King Downes will set up his God-King throne here.
And to the left of the Golden Palace is Valhalla, the Hall of Valor, which will be used to select strong mortals in the future!
The rafters of this palace are hung with spear shafts, and the roof is covered with shields edged with gold, large enough for giants to use.
The entire palace has 540 doors that can allow 800 mortals to pass through at once.
In addition to the atrium hall used for banquets and gladiatorial combat, Valhalla is built to be three stories high.
Each floor is quite spacious.
Even tall giants with a height of 20 meters will not feel cramped in this magnificent palace.
The biggest difference in this life's Valhalla is that two huge magic weapons are inserted at its main entrance, namely Surtr's [Flame Demon Sword] and the crude stone axe used by Ymir.
These weapons used by the ancestral giants, without any explanation, have visible elements lingering on them.
If anyone is brave enough to touch the weapons, regardless of whether they will be injured by the backlash of flames or frost, the resentment left on the weapons by the ancestral giants before their death is enough to scare the souls of ordinary people away.
