Stupid Odin

#266 - Die standing up, don’t kneel!

Enki and Arthur's joint defeat of the rain god Chac was merely an epitome of this grand world war.

Not far from them, reflected in the eyes of the warriors from both realms, two divine armies were engaged in a final, desperate battle across the land and sky.

Were it not for the world barrier, the exaggerated cries of battle would undoubtedly exceed the boundaries of the world, spreading into the depths of the chaotic universe. The earth-shaking sound waves were like a world-class geyser, sweeping through every corner of this heaven and earth, impacting the eardrums and minds of every being present.

In addition to the direct troops of the Aesir gods, the mortal armies of Jötunheimr also transformed into several waves of different colors, surging out from the archways formed by the branches and roots of the World Tree, sweeping across half the land.

The core mortal legions of Jötunheimr, primarily from Midgard, mostly wore gold or yellow armor, while the Celtic legions were mostly blue or blue-white, and the troops from the various Sumerian states were mainly ochre. Thanks to the prosperity of the world and the substantial increase in grain production, the various mortal nations combined genuinely mustered a million-strong army with little exaggeration.

Roughly estimated, there were about four hundred thousand combat soldiers, seven hundred thousand auxiliary soldiers, and over a million civilian laborers for logistics.

Originally, Downs did not intend to use mortal armies, as their combat power and efficiency were too low, but later Downs changed his mind.

This was a true world war.

Allowing mortals to be too detached from the war would disconnect the power of the mortal world from the divine realm.

Moreover, joining the battle was beneficial for screening heroes and heroic spirits.

Previously, due to the upper limit of the world's size, it could not nurture too many mortal heroes, but now it was different. After annexing multiple worlds, Downs was genuinely looking forward to whether new gods and new heroes would emerge.

The sight of a million-strong army marching out together was truly spectacular.

This was the age of mythology!

Mortal armies lacked discipline. Unable to form solid phalanxes, they resembled waves upon waves of the sea.

Despite knowing their numbers, the sheer visual impact made it feel as though the number of soldiers was too great to be described by any human language.

The terrain of this Mayan world closely resembled the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico on Earth, a desolate and vast beach.

However, even this vast beach could not accommodate the battle lines of the entire Jötunheimr army.

Many nations with tens of thousands of soldiers were only allocated a section of the war zone no more than five kilometers wide.

The Inca people, with even worse equipment and training, often ended up as corpses on the spot.

On the other hand, those who were no longer bound by the gods, or whose own gods had been defeated, 'greatly improved their tactical position,' abandoning everything and hiding in the dense jungle, attempting to slip through and escape death.

It was too chaotic!

Even greater chaos erupted within the Inca and Mayan pantheons.

Ever since the World Serpent Jörmungandr, at the cost of injury, forcibly disrupted the enemy's formation, Hela's death legion, led by the hellhound Garm, decisively intervened, expanding the chaos within the enemy ranks. From that moment on, the remnants of the Inca, Mayan, and Aztec divine realms could no longer organize a coherent counterattack.

Inca and Mayan deities occasionally cried out for surrender, but the only response they received was cruelty and indifference.

If some of the powerful divine vassals of Jötunheimr had secretly taken in surrendered gods, perhaps this divine war would have ended long ago. Since Odin's betrayal and Vili's slumber, God-King Downs had never granted any more territories. All the core deities were either Downs' sons or former descended gods, and no one would dare to provoke His Majesty the God-King. Since Downs had ordered that no prisoners be taken, they might as well kill them all.

Whenever an enemy deity indicated surrender, the Aesir gods and giants simply pretended not to hear.

Even the Mayan goddess Ixchel, kneeling on the ground and begging for mercy, was ordered by the Slavic moon goddess Sheslabog, 'Die standing! No kneeling!' Then she was forcibly dragged 'upright' and stabbed to death with a sword.

Fate may truly be a cycle.

Back then, the Mayan gods indulged the Aztec gods in plundering everywhere, capturing enemies, and mercilessly forcing the 'sacrifices' to kill each other, finally offering their hearts, sowing the 'seed of tyranny'.

When the Mayan world was destroyed and the three major pantheons collapsed, not even a single leaf was innocent, let alone the Mayan gods.

This was a purge!

The most cruel and thorough purge!

Downs leisurely sat on a peculiar platform in the sky, formed from pure wind elements, with a group of Valkyries dismounted from their Pegasus, attending to him.

Thor, Gilgamesh, and Freyr no longer participated in the hunt below.

Those enemy gods who had lost their will to fight, wanting to surrender but not allowed to kneel, could no longer arouse their interest.

They did not recognize any of the enemy gods below. Thor did not care, Gilgamesh disdained, only Freyr was still patient, squinting his eyes to observe the chaotic banners.

The only thing that could attract Freyr was a banner depicting a crystal skull.

That was the banner of the wise god Skel!

Freyr even summoned a Slavic divine servant for this purpose, only to learn that Skel's divine army had participated in the battles against the Ashanti world (around Ghana, West Africa) and the Bambara world (southwestern Mali).

Those valiant African divine armies had been defeated and drank their fill of regret before them.

Although Skel was known as the wise god, his martial strength was comparable to that of the angry god Loke.

Unlike the violent and sadistic Aztec gods' legions, Skel's angel army had an iron will and was cold and ruthless.

Unfortunately, this army was now almost completely annihilated.

A few remaining banners were struggling to hold out under the siege of the Jötunheimr pantheon's legions.

Just as the Slavic divine servant was introducing them, the last few banners had already been submerged by the Jötunheimr army.

"It's over!" Anyone with a bit of understanding of military affairs and politics would know that the three major pantheons of Maya, Inca, and Aztec would completely disappear from this chaotic universe.

Perhaps they once had unparalleled fame, but as the world fell, their existence would be erased... right?
