Stupid Odin
#56 - Too short-sighted and rude
The wheels of fate roll forward, never ceasing.
A fate that has gone astray is the most difficult to correct.
At this moment, Urd, the goddess of fate in charge of the [Past], was still alright, but Verdandi, the second goddess in charge of the [Present], had her eyebrows completely furrowed into a "川" character. In the end, the two goddesses let out a long sigh.
What's laughable is that Odin was completely unaware, continuing to let the wheels of fate rush wildly down the wrong path.
In fact, at this time, Odin could have completely severed Njord's head and held it up high, ending this meaningless battle.
He deliberately delayed it for a moment, because he had just discovered that the giant Thiazi, who had been confronting him the most, had fallen into a desperate situation—a Vanir god saw that he had no escape, and taking advantage of Thiazi's wide-open mouth as he laughed wildly, he suddenly transformed into a dolphin and slipped into Thiazi's mouth. After reaching his stomach, he transformed into a fierce sea urchin.
"Ah! Ah, ah, ah—" Thiazi clutched his chest, only to see black spikes piercing out from his chest cavity, even stabbing his hand.
This was a battle without victors. Thiazi certainly died because his heart was pierced, but the Vanir god inside didn't fare well either. The giant's terrifying gastric acid melted part of his body and killed him.
Some Aesir gods noticed Njord's death, but deliberately ignored it. They continued to pour out the pent-up frustration they had accumulated during this time on the remaining Vanir male gods, and those who couldn't find a target had already begun to carry their weapons towards the Vanir goddesses huddled in a corner of the temple.
Thor keenly noticed the change in the hall. Originally, he had completely suppressed Freyr, who no longer had the [Sword of Victory]. Given him some time, he could definitely kill Freyr completely. At this time, Thor was more concerned about the overall situation.
Thor suddenly said, "This is no longer war, it's a massacre. Freyr! Njord is dead. Do you want all your remaining relatives to be killed?"
Freyr, covered in blood, was stunned for a moment, glancing at his father's corpse. If this was truly a complete liquidation of the Vanir gods by the Aesir, he would resist to the end no matter what.
At this time, Freyr thought of his sister Freyja! Then he glanced at his trembling mother and sisters in the corner of the temple.
Freyr's heart was torn, both sides were not gods!
"Freyja, she…"
"She's fine! She has only become a goddess exclusively enjoyed by my father."
Freyr had to admit that even though the Vanir gods had a more open atmosphere, he absolutely could not accept a goddess becoming a slave if she went to the other side.
Now the situation was very clear. Odin clearly wanted to kill all the Vanir gods, and condoned the Aesir's slaughter. And the only one who could stop all this was him—Freyr, who theoretically inherited Njord's position!
The deaths of his father and friends certainly caused Freyr great pain, but the battle with Thor in Asgard before made Freyr choose to believe in Thor's character!
Freyr gritted his teeth, and suddenly threw down the divine sword in his hand, shouting at the top of his voice, "I am Freyr! In the name of the Vanir god's acting leader, I announce—surrender!"
Thor quickly interjected, shouting, "I, Thor, in the name of King Thanes, accept your surrender!"
One was willing to surrender, and the other accepted.
This was completely different in form.
Odin narrowed his one eye, staring at Thor, secretly spitting in his heart: I really don't like this kid!
He had no choice but to cut off Njord's head with a sword, hold it up high, and shout, "Njord has been killed by me, Odin! All Vanir gods listen well—those who refuse to surrender, die!"
The steps were given, and this time the Vanir gods had no way to go.
Either surrender, or die!
This grand battle, which lasted for more than three months, ended in a complete victory for the Aesir!
As far as the result is concerned, it was much better than the protracted war in the epic [Edda] that lasted for several years. Whether it was the loss of property, or the casualties of the gods, the total number was smaller.
The fall of some key gods cannot be easily compensated.
But this is not a problem that Odin, the 'commander-in-chief', needs to consider.
For most Aesir gods, this was still a glorious victory.
They raised their spears and other divine weapons, shouting loudly in the Sea God's Temple, ordering their subordinates to plunder everything that looked valuable as spoils of war, putting chains symbolizing imprisonment and shame on each Vanir god, driving them out of their homes, pressing them to the Rainbow Bridge, and transporting them to Asgard.
As for the mortals who believe in the sea god Njord?
No, they were not qualified to set foot on sacred Asgard. They were locked in the ruins of a smashed Vanir god's palace, countless spears pointed at them, and the giants next to them sat there domineeringly.
Deciding their fate only required a word from King Thanes.
Not long after, a grand trial was held in the Golden Palace.
Thanes sat on the throne, condescendingly overlooking the prisoners of the defeated clan, as well as countless gold and silver utensils, armor, and weapons that were laid out from the gate of the Golden Palace all the way to the steps of the throne!
What makes the onlookers most incomprehensible is the so-called ceremony of presenting prisoners.
The few Vanir male gods were chained in the hall with thorny shackles. These metal shackles were crafted by dwarven artisans, and used runes to effectively suppress the magical abilities of the Vanir gods.
This was no accident.
What was unexpected was the Vanir goddesses on the other side.
If you didn't know, you would say this was a fashion show.
Every Vanir goddess, without exception, was not only clean, but also dressed beautifully and put on grand evening dresses that conformed to Vanir culture.
You can see evening dresses similar to glyphs. Exaggeratingly highlighting their figure, and their charming waistline.
What was extremely ironic was that the person in charge of directing them was none other than Gullveig.
Her eyes were full of fanaticism, like a conductor of an orchestra, disciplining a group of Vanir goddesses:
"If you want to fight against your destiny, you should have died in the Sea God's Temple, instead of standing here."
"When Njord sent me to provoke the Vanir gods and declare war, you were also supporters."
"Now you are already losers. So forget your once noble status, whether you can still be called goddesses depends on your performance. Give me some smiles. Yes, that's right."
Clearly her status was only a mere handmaiden, but the radiance she exuded from her bones made others feel that she was the queen of the gods.
Hearing Gullveig's words, a little sadness could still be seen on their faces, and when they saw their sister (younger sister) Freyja standing beside Thanes giving them a reassuring smile, they bit their teeth and tried their best to manage their expressions.
Thanes withdrew his gaze.
As the excited Thor took charge of calling out the names again, Odin, the second greatest contributor to this counterattack, entered the arena with his head held high amidst the drums of the band.
Thor proclaimed Odin's merits, and the overjoyed Odin thought that he had made up for his mistakes this time, but he didn't expect that when Thanes' first sentence came down, it was still that damn beginning.
"My foolish brother—"
Odin couldn't hold back at that moment: I, what did I do wrong again? I just killed the leader of the false gods who provoked the Aesir, am I wrong to do that?
Thanes continued: "That's right, I said that Njord's fate was up to you to decide. But your methods are still too short-sighted and too crude."
