Stupid Odin
#59 - Shenma [Svadir Fari]
“The so-called architect…” Thors, seated upon his throne, gently closed his eyes.
No one knew better than he what a world experienced from nothingness to existence.
The epic poem "Edda" records that the Golden Palace alone took over fifty years to build. This is because after Odin created the dwarves, they weren't born as great craftsmen capable of building anything. They were merely more adept at exploration and summation.
As a transmigrator, Thors naturally 'stood on the shoulders of giants,' summarizing a vast amount of architectural knowledge from Earth, and utilizing the strength of the giants in this world to quickly create the Golden Palace and Valhalla in a leapfrog manner.
Thors didn't care about whether to build walls or not. He knew very well that the so-called tinkering with walls and fortress complexes in Asgard was just a boring game to appease the gods' hearts.
If Asgard were to truly collapse, it definitely wouldn't be due to a lack of walls.
Feeling the expectant gazes of the gods, Thors adjusted his posture, crossed his legs, propped his right elbow on the armrest of the throne, and rested his cheek on his palm: “Then let's just meet him for now.”
The magnificent Golden Palace welcomed a special group of guests.
It was a 'stone man' who looked very much like a giant. He was about six meters tall, with a strange, almost square head. His facial features were almost on a single plane. Outside of his vest-like garment, a set of muscles seemingly composed of squares and rectangles were exposed to the air.
He was leading a giant divine horse that was fully eight meters tall at the shoulder. Apart from being particularly tall, this jet-black steed seemed no different from ordinary mortal horses in appearance.
Fortunately, the Golden Palace was originally designed for the Aesir gods, who averaged 5 meters in height, and giants who could be up to 25 meters tall.
Even with these two large creatures entering, it didn't feel crowded or cramped at all.
The 'stone man' gave a clumsy bow.
Thors spoke, his voice like a booming bell: “Speak, mysterious guest. What can you do for the Aesir?”
The stone man spoke, saying something similar to what he had reported to Heimdall earlier.
The construction period would be three seasons (more than half a year), for a massive wall encircling 90,000 square kilometers of Asgard. The wall would be 200 meters high, the watchtowers 300 meters, and the wall could also be engraved with runes according to the Aesir's requirements. As long as the Aesir accepted it and infused the wall with divine power, it would become impossible for giants to climb.
Just hearing about it made the gods and giants feel incredulous.
They praised it one after another, but Thors maintained an icy tone:
“A good proposal. Then what reward do you want to obtain? Before you speak, I need to warn you. You can only obtain a reasonable reward here. If you expect the Aesir to fear the frost giants and be willing to pay a humiliating price for it, then you can remain silent and leave. If you ask for a random price and blaspheme the Aesir, then don't blame us for being impolite.”
Having foreseen what would happen, Thors issued a rather stern warning in advance.
Reasonable and principled, adhering to the season!
The gods didn't understand why their King said this, but they didn't feel there was anything wrong with it, and they curiously turned their gazes to the stone man.
Good words are hard to persuade a ghost seeking death!
The stone man ignored everything. After casting a greedy gaze over the three most beautiful deities in the hall, he extended his square finger, drool like lime flowing from his lips.
“My request is not high. As long as it is completed on schedule, I need to take these three deities as my slaves as a reward!”
Do you know who this guy is pointing at?
It was actually Frigg, Freyja, and Freyr, who were recognized as the most beautiful in the entire hall!
“You XXX, you really dare to say that?!” Thor immediately cursed out loud, a surge of heat rushing to his head. He instinctively wanted to look at his father, but before he could turn his head, he heard the word he most wanted to hear.
“Kill—”
This was celestial music!
This was the judgment of the Aesir King!
This was Thors' simplest and most direct response to the greedy who asked for exorbitant prices.
As Thor, the number one fighter under the God-King, he didn't hesitate for even half a second. His figure transformed into a bolt of lightning, and he rushed up with a hammer.
“Bang!”
Gray brains splattered all over the ground just like that.
The stone giant's body collapsed limply.
Everything happened so quickly that the 'Three Fs' had just recovered their senses. The two goddesses, needless to say, felt their hearts stir because their God-King was protecting them so much, and ordered the execution of the provocateur without a second thought. Freyr, who had joined Thors' command, was also greatly moved, a feeling of trust and appreciation filling his heart.
Thors' order to kill was too decisive, and the gods and giants didn't feel anything was wrong.
Only Thors himself knew that the trajectory of fate had once again shifted in a completely new direction.
In the epic, the Aesir had just finished the battle against the Vanir, the gods were heavily injured, exhausted, and really didn't have the energy to play a tug-of-war with the frost giants. That's why Odin agreed to this mysterious architect building a wall for his home. At the time, not a single Aesir thought this guy could do it, so they never planned to pay.
Who knew that in the next half year, the construction progress would be so fast that even the gods were stunned. Seeing that the other party could complete it on schedule, and not wanting to bear the name of breach of contract, Loki came forward to cause trouble…
In this life, Thors neither allowed the frost giant rebellion to gain momentum, nor lost the war against the Vanir. It was precisely when the Aesir and giants were at their peak.
Thors' next speech was logical.
“Everyone! What is a wall! In my opinion, the real wall is not that rigid high wall, but all of you present. You are the walls of the Aesir, you defend the glory of the Aesir with your courage and wisdom. Therefore, in my opinion, walls can be built, but what needs to be built even more is our confidence!”
These words made the gods and giants' blood boil, and they cheered.
“What His Majesty said is too right.”
“As long as we are united, we can defeat any enemy.”
“Walls are not necessary!”
“Or, let's build the wall on the Jotunheim glacier. Let those disgusting guys get beaten as soon as they come out.”
“Hahaha! Good idea!”
The sound in the entire Golden Palace was thus intentionally or unintentionally led astray by Thors.
When the giant horse was led away by the Valkyries, it didn't resist and left very obediently, so no one noticed the special nature of this giant horse.
Then, in less than two days, a big piece of news broke out in the stable.
The Valkyries 'accidentally' discovered that this giant horse was actually far more powerful than the gods and giants. After the death of Thiazzi, the strongest giant, theoretically the strongest was the giantess Skadi.
Who knew that even Skadi's strength couldn't compare to this divine horse named 【Svaðilfari】?!
