Stupid Odin
#68 - The omen of dusk
It wasn't that Thanis was deliberately withholding artifacts from his subordinates; it's just that this magic ship was only suitable for the seas of Vanaheim.
Now that Njord was gone, the world was missing a god of the sea.
Unable to find a new replacement, Thanis chose to request the world's will to temporarily assume the [Ocean] godhood.
Magically, the world's will agreed.
Even as a guest sea god, Thanis needed some marine divine objects to serve as a facade, so he had to take the ship.
If there was any difference between this artifact treasure ship and the epic version, it was that Thanis planned to add a cabin to the ship.
For a dignified god-king to sail the sea with goddesses, a transparent design like a Viking longship offered no privacy at all, which was unacceptable.
The golden boar [Gullinbursti] was assigned by Thanis to Freyr, the god of sunlight and harvest.
In fact, only Freyr was the most suitable.
Freyr seemed to deeply fall in love with this divine golden pig, deciding to use it to pull his chariot.
"Is such an artifact for your subject?" Freyr was truly moved.
Since joining the Aesir, Freyr had been diligently working hard.
He used to be a war god and wasn't good at this. After surrendering, he had been working cautiously, fearing that his mistakes would implicate his former Vanir kin.
Now that he had finally gained the god-king's approval, Freyr was so moved that he was almost crying.
Thanis encouraged Freyr, "Being loyal to your duty is good, but don't forget to practice your swordsmanship."
"Yes!"
Thanis liked gods like Freyr the most. He was handsome, cheerful, and serious in his work. The key was that as a surrendered god, he was loyal enough to Thanis, his new master.
For such a subject, no reward was too much.
Besides, if something unexpected happened in the future, an outsider like Freyr could attack a certain god of mischief without any psychological burden!
As for the magic golden bracelet that could amplify charm, Thanis casually gave it to Freyja.
This life's Freyja had no chance to become a social butterfly of the Aesir like in the epic.
After enjoying her exclusively for so many years, even if Freyja hadn't given birth, she had at least worked hard without any merit.
Appropriate rewards were necessary.
Receiving a beautiful artifact bracelet as a gift, Freyja happily pounced on Thanis and kissed him a few times, making the gods envious.
Everything seemed to return to calm.
Years passed, and just as the Aesir gods thought their divine clan's rule could last for thousands of generations and be maintained forever, a piece of news made Thanis shudder.
Loki had given birth!
This time, it wasn't that he gave birth himself, but he found a female giant as his lover.
This year, Angrboða gave birth to a wolf cub and named it [Fenrir]!
Again, when the embodiment of chaos only appears on one person, it's best to keep a close eye on that person.
No science or evolution could explain why two pure-blooded giants could give birth to a wolf son.
Thanis, the god-king who always properly handled almost all the major events in the nine realms, rarely lost his composure after receiving this news.
He suddenly stood up from the divine throne, causing Frigg and Freyja beside him to be stunned.
Frigg said in a trembling voice, "Loki gave birth to a wolf, is there anything wrong with that?"
Thanis glanced at this beautiful goddess and sighed in his heart.
The fact that the gods didn't feel anything was wrong was the biggest problem!
These divine barbarians, even if they put on golden helmets and armor or gorgeous evening dresses, were still barbarians at heart. Their knowledge destined them to be unable to understand Thanis's actions in many cases.
"Gods give birth to gods! Dragons give birth to dragons! A rat's son knows how to burrow holes."
As soon as Thanis said this, the goddesses beside him immediately felt that it made sense.
"Then this is..."
"The problem is big, the World Tree's ability to filter chaos has weakened." Thanis turned to greet the Valkyrie, "Order Odin to come see me immediately."
The Rainbow Bridge was a good thing. It connected the nine realms without obstacles. As long as Heimdall's vision could reach, the rainbow's light could be redirected to quickly bring any being to Asgard.
Odin had just killed two frost giants who had jumped out of the glacier when he was inexplicably pulled away by Heimdall.
"What's the matter that big brother is in such a hurry to find me?" He asked Heimdall a little uneasily.
"It seems to be related to chaos."
"Oh."
Arriving at the Silver Palace, Odin respectfully saluted and asked, "Brother, what's the matter that you suddenly called me here..."
Odin stopped halfway through his words. He saw Thanis on the god-king's throne, but he didn't see a third being besides him and Thanis in the hall.
Twelve points out of ten were wrong!
Completely lacking the usual kindness, big brother's eyes only had a kind of deep, almost empty feeling. His gaze wasn't on the present, but seemed to transcend the constraints of time and space, seeing the distant future.
Big brother had the [Prophecy] godhood, Odin knew.
He had never thought that this matter would look very, very serious.
Thanis spoke, his voice grand, ethereal, and full of inorganic feeling.
"I saw it—"
"I saw the earth frozen for three years, all things withered! The flames of chaos spread and burned on the earth, and the flags of destruction and conquest of mortals were erected along with it."
"The earth let out a wail known to the whole world. The slaughtering sounds of giant beasts and gods were like endless tsunamis, drowning out the dying screams of all the sufferers in the world."
"The smoke and dust raised by the war covered the sky, there was no more sunlight! No more rainbow!"
"The demons rising from the three realms collapsed Asgard's defenses and trampled on the glorious palaces of the gods!"
"The steps of the destroyer were like a death knell, ringing in the hearts of the gods."
"Even Odin died in its giant mouth."
"I, I saw it—the world-destroying demon wolf [Fenrir]!"
As the last word in Thanis's prophecy fell, Odin completely lost his composure.
Odin was so shocked that his ears were buzzing, and his eyes briefly lost focus: What? Loki's wolf cub will kill me when he grows up?
It wasn't that Odin wasn't worried about the doomsday prophecy, the key was that the Aesir god-king wasn't him, and Thanis would bear the brunt of the sky falling.
If the unlucky ghost who was destined to die in the prophecy became him, Odin, then this prophecy would be too terrifying!
Odin's body was trembling slightly: "Big brother, Loki is our good brother!"
He's your good brother, not mine!
After sighing in his heart, Thanis revealed another truth: "My foolish brother. Do you know how much trouble Loki caused in order to steal the divine horse Svaðilfari from me? If I hadn't intervened, your steed Sleipnir would have been the eight-legged Pegasus of chaos."
Lies can't stand scrutiny, truth is a quick knife.
Thanis presented 'facts' one by one, merely rearranging some of the order, which corroborated the truth of [Ragnarok].
Don't look at how Odin and Loki are so close now that they almost wear the same pants, when Loki's child is 'destined' to kill Odin, may I ask Your Excellency Odin, how should you respond?
