#360 - A series of exciting moon landing activities
Talking is cheap. Cheng Dong and Tong Anfu gave a live demonstration of the construction steps for the "artificial lunar soil protective layer."
Well, just like most people imagined, it's all about filling sandbags, transporting sandbags, and stacking sandbags.
The steps are the same, and the name is the same, but the sandbags in the live broadcast are truly awesome!
First of all, the empty sandbags are awesome. Their material is incredibly strong, tough, lightweight, impact-resistant, radiation-resistant, and has a whole host of other advantages.
Then they are used to hold sand and soil.
Ahem, lunar dust and lunar soil.
Only three countries on Earth have the ability to launch space equipment themselves to obtain lunar soil from the moon. These three countries represent the top three levels in the world; other countries can't do it.
If you want lunar soil, you can only wait for these three countries to send it.
Lunar soil is so precious, yet the two Tianxia astronauts were scooping it into bags one shovel at a time, just like filling sandbags on Earth.
They even threw aside lunar rocks that were too big,嫌弃 (xián qì - showing their dislike).
In addition, the tools for filling sandbags are also awesome. The engineering shovel is made of special materials, specifically manufactured for aerospace work.
Not to mention the spacesuits, which cost at least several hundred million for a set. That's the price of the old-fashioned spacesuits. These spacesuits, which look even more impressive, might cost several billion per… unit.
People feel that the unit of measurement for this type of powered, hard-shell spacesuit is more appropriately "unit" or "set," because relative to clothing, it's more like a machine, lacking the iconic fabric exterior of spacesuits.
The sandbag-carrying behavior lasted for the first half-day. After that, they used four-wheeled carts. Using spacesuits to carry them directly on the first day was also a kind of test for the spacesuits.
There are also techniques for stacking sandbags, which is to try to distribute the lunar soil evenly in the sandbags, avoiding situations where "the middle is bulging and there is no lunar soil on both sides." You should try to make it a cuboid.
Adjacent sandbags should be tightly packed, and the upper and lower layers should be staggered.
Only in this way can the stacked sandbag wall be tighter, and the radiation protection will be better.
This is the best way to build a protective wall with good protection in the shortest time.
It must be said that the changes to the lunar base now are really significant.
When they first landed, there were only two pieces of equipment, a habitat and a spacecraft. In the past two days, the number of devices visible to orbital satellites has doubled.
One is the ten-meter diameter folding antenna, and the other is a solar panel array. These two things were assembled by mechanical engineer Tong Anfu, who took the lead.
With such a good signal, of course, the audience should be shown the great contributor, which is that big antenna.
After seeing the great contributor, they went to see the spacecraft and the solar panel array.
The astronauts gave an introduction to the spacecraft when it was in space, but some modules were blocked by protective panels, so the audience didn't see them. Since they were going to talk about it this time, they would naturally explain it clearly.
Of course, the details of the work cannot be shown, nor can they be shown. Just look at the exterior of the equipment.
The lunar base is not short of vehicles. The eighth lunar rover automatically woke up after being dragged out of the shadow area, and after a little modification, it became another good vehicle.
Eight powered vehicles. Leaving two for transportation and emergencies, Lin Yang and Peng Zizhen took away six at once.
Two of them are manned, and the remaining four can be set to follow mode.
Detection equipment was placed at the ice mine, and it is safe within a certain distance, so Lin Yang also entered the shadow area. Six vehicles hung six storage boxes, which can hold a lot of ice chunks at once.
These storage tanks were brought over after being compressed, somewhat like inflatable space stations, and somewhat like lanterns.
Because they need to open the lid when loading ice cubes, they don't inflate, but are completely supported by the skeleton.
Bringing back six vehicles of ice at once, it directly melted into water on the way back, and the pressure inside the tank increased and expanded further.
After returning, they were transported to the lifting platform with a small crane, connected to the conveying pipe, and the lifting platform was raised, so that the muddy water could flow into the conversion furnace. The conversion furnace would separate the water and residue, and finally electrolyze it into fuel.
However, the conversion furnace is a bit small, and it will take some time to process six tanks of water, which is why it will take a week to take off.
In addition to wanting to bring back more mission items, the main reason is that fuel accumulates slowly.
The three hours passed quickly. In the last time, the camera turned to the permanently shadowed area, allowing the audience to see the mining site of lunar ice.
To be honest, there is really nothing to see. It is full of large pieces of surface ice, so there is no need to go down to the mine for the time being.
The astronauts used hammers to knock ice cubes. They picked up the knocked-off pieces and put them into storage tanks. If the ice is too hard and the hammer is not easy to knock, they used an electric pick, and they can always crush the ice.
They didn't pick up the ones that were too small. Picking them up might get more lunar soil than ice. They only wanted the ones that were the right size.
The early mining is so willful.
The interactive session was also very interesting, mainly answering strange questions from netizens. Because of the limited time, only 20 questions were answered, and each answer was very short.
Most viewers felt that they had gained a lot from the three-hour live broadcast.
"I supervised the process of mankind moving towards the stars again, which is really good."
"Haha, I have a feeling of participating in history. Humans have finally established a base on the moon, and watching the base expand bit by bit, I feel very accomplished."
"Yes, it's really good. The continuous construction of the base is a good phenomenon. Moreover, there is now an ice mine and a device for producing fuel. If Navigator transports a large fuel production device up there, the moon can really become a gas station."
"I feel that this lunar base should be built very quickly. In a little over ten days, the second batch of Tianxia lunar astronauts will set off. Although they won't land on the moon, it's also great to do research on the lunar space station."
"Do we still not know who that mysterious astronaut is?"
"They revealed a little news, saying that it is someone from Navigator Company, but there is no official news about which astronaut it is."
"Navigator's security measures are too good. This time, Tianxia's national team announced the candidates in advance."
"The lunar base is on the lunar surface, and the lunar space station is in lunar orbit. They will often meet, which feels quite romantic."
"I feel that the lunar space station is more dangerous than the lunar surface base. The lunar surface base can build a lunar soil protective layer, but the lunar space station has no way to reduce weight. The radiation dose must be much greater than the lunar base."
"Well, that's why the Tianxia Aerospace Administration said that the astronauts on the lunar space station will be rotated every half month, in order to prevent excessive radiation damage."
"I really hope I can go to the lunar space station and the lunar base for a walk. I have been to the Starry Sky Inn. I have to have a more ambitious goal."
"emmmm, it's probably difficult. It probably costs a lot of money to go to the moon, and the radiation is so high, it doesn't feel very good."
"I don't think this is a matter of spending money or not, but whether the lunar base is open or not."
"…"
As the excited people chatted, they somehow talked about Meruiken's return to the moon mission at the end of the month. From the perspective of mankind moving towards the stars, it is better for two countries to successfully land on the moon than one country.
As long as the two countries don't fight on the moon and accidentally destroy the moon, but instead develop and build on the moon together, the faster mankind will move towards the stars.
Since Meruiken said they wouldn't be a no-show and would launch on time, people were waiting to see.
But before that, on March 24, the Benyue spacecraft was indeed refueled. The astronauts put a lot of lunar soil, lunar rocks, lunar ice, and some minerals they found on it, started the unmanned mode, ignited, and took off to return to Earth orbit.
The successful launch of Benyue once again raised the importance of the moon to a higher level.
A long-distance transfer station, none other than the moon!
I don't know if it was stimulated, but the launch time of Meruiken's mission was actually brought forward by one day.
People were even more excited.
On the 26th, Benyue will dock at the Tiangong Space Station.
On the 27th, Meruiken's return to the moon mission will launch.
According to the schedule, Meruiken's National Team spacecraft will enter lunar orbit on the 30th, and then land on the moon on April 2.
And April 3 is the day when Benyue sets off again to the moon.
This is simply a series of good shows!
