The Admiral of Hogwarts

#213 - Destroying the Horcrux

"She collapsed." Hugo and Veneto remained vigilant even as Hannah suddenly fell to the ground. After Hugo cast a Stunning Spell, they cautiously prepared to check on her.

Just then, the door of the hospital wing creaked open, and Madam Pomfrey emerged, wand raised, a tense expression on her face.

"What happened here?" Madam Pomfrey asked, her eyes sweeping over the wreckage in the corridor before settling on Hugo and Veneto.

"Hannah seemed to be controlled by some kind of Dark Magic artifact. She suddenly attacked us, but luckily, we were warned by Professor Halsey and were on guard, so we weren't caught off guard."

Hugo pointed to the Horcrux of Voldemort lying on the ground. "This book should be that dangerous Dark Magic artifact. She fainted after it fell from her person."

In reality, even Voldemort's Horcrux wasn't that fragile. It was just that the Killing Curse that missed its target had been too taxing for Voldemort, who hadn't completed the final step of fully resurrecting through murder.

That's why he seemed so weak in the subsequent attacks, and Hugo and Veneto easily beat him into his current dormant state.

Having understood the basic situation, Madam Pomfrey immediately busied herself.

She conjured a pair of tongs for Hugo and Veneto to place the book into a heavy silver box she retrieved from the hospital wing.

Then, with a wave of her wand, she levitated Hannah and gently moved her to an empty bed in the hospital wing.

Because the castle was on alert, Madam Pomfrey simply had Hugo and Veneto stay in the hospital wing to avoid trouble until the alert was lifted.

It was then that they noticed Madam Pomfrey, who usually quickly identified and treated injuries, was unusually silent when examining Hannah, her wand movements becoming increasingly rapid.

"Hannah... how is she?" Veneto asked as Madam Pomfrey solemnly lowered her wand.

"The situation is not good." Madam Pomfrey shook her head and sighed. "This child is clearly losing life force, and I can't find where it's going."

"Although the process is slow, it could be life-threatening if it can't be stopped. I think she might need to be sent to St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries—"

"I think that Dark Magic artifact might be draining her life." Before Madam Pomfrey could finish, the hospital wing door opened, and Enterprise entered, her clothes slightly disheveled, with two second-year Hufflepuff girls floating behind her.

"You mean this book?" After Enterprise and the others settled the two injured students, Madam Pomfrey opened the silver box, revealing Voldemort's Horcrux diary.

"That's right, it's this." After waving her wand over the diary a few times, Enterprise turned to look at Hugo and Veneto. "When you were fighting Hannah, did you notice anything unusual?"

After Enterprise asked the question, Veneto and Hugo immediately began to describe their feelings during the battle.

Of course, their words subtly pointed in one direction: the Hannah they fought was almost a completely different person from the Hannah they knew.

"The situation is now very clear. Our Hannah Abbott seems to have come into contact with a very rare Dark Magic artifact that not only absorbs her life force but can even directly control Hannah when the power balance reaches a certain point."

"What should we do next?" Madam Pomfrey asked anxiously. As a healer, she excelled at treating various injuries and illnesses, but she was not as specialized in Dark Arts defense as professionals like Enterprise.

"Simple. Find and destroy the Dark Magic artifact causing this. We've already completed the most difficult part of the process."

As Enterprise said, these kinds of Dark Magic artifacts used to harm people are often extremely well-hidden. The most troublesome part of solving these problems is finding them.

But now that the book is here, all that's left is to destroy the notebook completely.

However, the subsequent destruction was not going smoothly, because neither fire, physical destruction, nor corrosive magic could cause significant damage to the notebook.

Instead, Madam Pomfrey noticed that the notebook's rate of life force extraction from Hannah increased dramatically when they attempted to destroy it.

"It seems we have to destroy this notebook in one go." Realizing the special connection between Hannah and the notebook, Enterprise immediately stopped everyone's experiments and pulled a Basilisk fang from her robes, stabbing it forcefully into the notebook.

With a terrible, prolonged, ear-piercing scream, ink gushed from the diary, flowing down the black cover to the bottom of the silver box.

Then everything fell silent, and only the sound of ink still dripping from the diary could be heard. The Basilisk venom had burned a hole through the diary, which was still hissing with black smoke.

Just then, Hannah lying on the bed groaned. Everyone immediately turned to look at the bed and saw Hannah propping herself up on her elbows.

She first looked around at the surroundings and the four people standing by the bed, then focused her attention on Enterprise, who was holding the snake fang and looking slightly disheveled, and the smoking notebook in the silver box in front of her.

"Everyone... I'm sorry—I'm so sorry for what I've done this year." Looking at the classmates and professors surrounding her, Hannah shivered, gasped, and burst into tears.

"After I accidentally obtained this notebook from the Leaky Cauldron during the summer vacation—I—I slowly realized something was wrong."

"Especially after the first attack, I found—I found I couldn't remember where I was at that time, and I couldn't figure out where the blood on my chest came from?"

"Then why didn't you tell the professors?" Madam Pomfrey asked, somewhat puzzled. "I think the professors should be able to solve the problem you're facing."

"I wanted to, but every time I wanted to find a professor to report the problem, I would lose consciousness, and when I regained consciousness, I would be in another place."

"Worse, I found that my roommates seemed to be controlled too, and sometimes they would take the notebook out to do things, and although I was conscious at that time, I could only do things like a puppet—"

"I will—I will definitely be expelled." At this point, Hannah covered her face and cried loudly.

"Since Hogwarts was founded, the children of the Abbott family, as long as they are wizards, will study here, but now I am sure to leave. What will my family say about me then—"
