The Admiral of Hogwarts

#299 - Lupin's departure and the end of the semester

After Remus Lupin's werewolf identity was exposed, Hogwarts received a large number of letters that day because parents were unwilling to have a werewolf as a professor at the school.

"You actually could have stayed," Qi Ye said, arriving at the Defense Against the Dark Arts office after hearing that Professor Lupin was leaving. "I think the school board should be able to fight for it a bit more—"

"Thank you, but this is a voluntary resignation," Lupin said, commanding a thick stack of books to line up and walk into the suitcase, then turning to Qi Ye.

"I shouldn't add more trouble to Headmaster Dumbledore. More importantly, werewolves are indeed very dangerous in a school. I'm thinking, what if I really bite a student? That would be terrible."

"Well, then I can only wish you all the best in the future," Qi Ye nodded and then asked, "Have you found your next job yet? If you haven't, I happen to know of a job that might be suitable for you."

"Next job? Almost the entire British wizarding world knows I'm a werewolf now. How could anyone be willing to hire me?" Lupin turned around and gave a wry smile.

"Fortunately, a professor's salary isn't low. So, if I'm frugal, I can last for a while. If it really doesn't work out, I might leave Britain and go to America to look for a job."

"But I really do know of a shop in Diagon Alley that is recruiting werewolves," Qi Ye said, handing Lupin the address of the Unwavering shop. "They have already hired at least 30 werewolves there."

"I specifically observed this shop before and found that the people they hire are mainly marginalized figures in the wizarding world. It seems the shop owner is inclined towards charity work."

"If that's the case, then I'll go take a look," Lupin said, smiling as he took the slip of paper that Qi Ye handed him. For him, finding a job was a difficult matter, so he certainly wouldn't give up if there was a chance.

"However, I'm a little worried whether this shop is still recruiting werewolves," Lupin said with a bitter face, as if thinking of something after putting away the slip of paper, "because I heard that Umbridge is drafting an anti-werewolf law."

"That person is a standard politician, and the most heartless kind," Qi Ye said, looking angry at the mention of Umbridge.

Because recently, this guy's new Ministry of Magic recruitment standards have modified several key areas, and after the modifications, it is significantly more difficult for Muggle-born wizards to enter the Ministry of Magic.

"However, the shop I introduced to you not only has branches in Britain, but also in mainland Europe and the United States. So, you can work in Britain as someone dispatched from the European or American branches."

When it comes to exploiting legal loopholes, those American ship girls have a certain specialty in this area. So, after this law is promulgated, all the werewolves at Unwavering have become dispatch workers from American or European shops.

"If that's the case, that would be great. I will go and see this shop," Lupin said, clearly tempted.

After all, finding a job was a rather difficult matter for him, so he wouldn't give up such a good opportunity, even if there was only a 1% chance.

Just after the two of them finished talking about this matter, Harry and Ron walked in. Seeing this, Qi Ye greeted them and then left the office.

Ten minutes later, when Qi Ye looked out of her office window, she saw Lupin carrying his battered suitcase out of the castle and walking down the path away from the castle.

For the rest of the semester, Qi Ye took over the job of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. For most of the students, her level was obviously much stronger than the previous professors.

"It's such a pity. If Professor Halsey could have continued teaching, that would have been great," Terry Boot said in the Ravenclaw common room after a Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson.

"Unfortunately, when I asked her how long she would be teaching us at the end of the lesson, she said she would only teach until the end of this semester and wouldn't extend it to the next semester."

"Actually, Professor Dumbledore once hoped that Professor Halsey would continue teaching, but she refused," Marietta said, as the most well-informed person in Ravenclaw.

"The reason the professor refused is because she discovered that there is indeed a complex curse on this position, so it's more appropriate not to take on this job for personal safety."

Finally, exam week was over. This year, Hermione looked much better when she finished her exams than in previous years.

On the one hand, she directly gave up Muggle Studies after the Time-Turner broke last time, and on the other hand, Hermione's new body was indeed much stronger than before.

At least, compared to the flesh and blood of normal humans, the bodies of ship girls, composed of energy and steel, were much stronger. For example, Hermione could easily study continuously for 72 hours without any rest.

However, even so, human habits still slowed down Hermione's learning speed. So, she didn't manage to outperform Veneto and Firefly in this year's exams again.

"I should have realized long ago that my method of memorizing knowledge should be completely different from the past. For example, when memorizing some knowledge, there's no need to repeatedly memorize it several times. Just look at it once, and that's enough."

When everyone received their end-of-term exam records and boarded the Hogwarts Express, Hermione muttered softly, while Firefly and Veneto, sitting opposite the Granger siblings, giggled beside her.

Obviously, for the ship girls, seeing a newly awakened compatriot encountering this kind of problem was a very interesting thing, and it might become a topic of conversation for a long time to come.

"You're here. I've been looking for you for a long time," Just as Hugo and the others were discussing the end-of-term exams, the door of the train compartment opened, and the Weasley twins walked in from outside.

"What's the matter?" Hugo asked, looking curiously at the two people who walked in.

"It's great that you're all here. I wanted to ask if you know whether the Golden Haugh General Store is recruiting pure-blood wizards," Fred said.

"We heard that the shop is recruiting summer workers, but it seems they mainly recruit Muggle-born wizards, occasionally some half-blood wizards, but never pure-blood wizards."

"That's not right. That shop never looks at bloodlines when recruiting employees," Firefly said. "It's just that generally pure-blood families and pure-blood wizards are basically unwilling to work in a place full of Muggle-born wizards."

"That's right. I heard my sister say this before," Veneto added at this time. "There was once a Slytherin graduate who wanted to come, but gave up as soon as he saw the staff there."

"And when he left, he specifically shouted loudly at the entrance of the shop, saying that this shop was like a cesspit, constantly emitting the stench of Muggles."

"We are not those filthy Slytherins, and we certainly don't have such disgusting discriminatory thoughts," George said loudly after hearing what that Slytherin graduate had done before, and Fred nodded in agreement beside him.

"Of course, I believe you," Veneto nodded and said. "And compared to other people, I believe you should be able to get along well with everyone."
