The Ancient Wizards of Hogwarts

Chapter 74 Change, anything can be changed!

As a professor of Transfiguration, Professor McGonagall is extremely confident in her own talent.

In today's wizarding world, she is confident that almost no one can surpass her in transfiguration.

So she knows very well that transfiguration is different from ordinary spells. Ordinary spells often only need to be roughly mastered to be successfully cast, but transfiguration can only be considered successful if it is completely correct!

Therefore, only people with extremely high talents in transfiguration can perform the most difficult transformation and turn people into animals. Of the more than 10,000 wizards in Britain, less than a hundred can master this level of transformation.

It is even more difficult to turn yourself into an animal and become an Animagus.

In the entire twentieth century, there were only seven Animagus registered with the Ministry of Magic!

Because the key to becoming an Animagus is that the wizard must transform into an animal while still retaining complete magic power and the corresponding magic circuit that belongs to the wizard.

Only when the magic power is intact in the body and the magic power can operate in a manner corresponding to the magic circuit, can the Animagus transform from an animal back into a human being.

In fact, although there are only seven Animagus registered with the Ministry of Magic, in the past hundred years, at least one hundred wizards have tried to become Animagus and successfully transformed into animals.

These one hundred people all successfully transformed into animals, but without exception, they were unable to retain their own magic power, and even their sanity could not survive.

At least one-third of the wizards have permanently transformed into animals and have not been discovered by anyone so far. They may have died in some dark corner. The other two-thirds were discovered by other wizards in time and managed to return to human form with the help of transfiguration.

According to Ash's theory, since the animals transformed by Animagus possess magical power, they cannot be regarded as ordinary animals, but magical creatures!

Seeing that Professor McGonagall remained silent, Ash asked:

"Professor McGonagall, do you think my theory is valid?"

Professor McGonagall still chose to remain silent. After a long time, she slowly spoke:

"Frankly speaking, your theory succeeded in convincing me."

"But according to your theory, it is still impossible for a wizard to transform into other magical creatures."

According to Ash's theory, advanced transformation can be subdivided into three stages:

Advanced transfiguration, changing from human to animal, does not require retaining magic power.

Animagus, the transformation from human to animal, requires retaining the magical circuits of a wizard.

Magical Animagus, to transform from a human into other magical creatures, needs to convert its own magic circuits into the magic circuits of the corresponding magical creatures.

In Professor McGonagall's view, these three stages are completely progressive. You must advance from advanced transformation to Animagus before you have a chance to become a magical Animagus.

Because if you want to transform from a human into a magical creature, you must have successful experience in retaining magic circuits in ordinary animals. Only by successfully retaining magic circuits in ordinary animals can they hope to transform their own magic circuits into the magic circuits of other magical creatures.

The problem is, an Animagus can only transform into one animal.

In other words, when an Animagus successfully transforms, it is no longer possible to transform into other animals, let alone magical creatures.

But if you can't become an Animagus, you can directly transcend ordinary animals and transform into magical creatures.

This is a dead end.

Ash thought about it seriously and said:

"This will indeed be very difficult, but my theory at least provides a practical path. But you should know that my original intention of proposing this theory is not to turn wizards into magical creatures."

Hearing Ash's words, Professor McGonagall was startled again. Only then did she remember that Ash had submitted his paper not to study how wizards could turn into magical creatures, but to study how to turn werewolves into humans!

"Werewolf?"

Professor McGonagall's expression changed, and she immediately substituted werewolves, a special magical creature, into Ash's theory——

Werewolves can release magic when in human form. It can be basically concluded that werewolves in human form have the same magic circuits as wizards. A werewolf in werewolf form will lose his mind, so it is difficult to judge whether a werewolf in this state can perform magic.

There are two possibilities:

First, whether in human form or werewolf form, the werewolf magic circuit is the wizard's magic circuit.

Second, werewolves have two completely different sets of magic circuits in human form and werewolf form.

The offspring produced by werewolf mating can be divided into three types:

Werewolves in human form mate with humans, and the offspring born are normal humans.

Both parties are werewolves in human form mating, and the offspring born are werewolves.

Both parties were mated with werewolves in werewolf form, and the offspring born were werewolves who only had wolf form.

Therefore, there are three forms of werewolf descendants, human form, wolf form, and werewolf form.

Normal werewolves have human and werewolf forms, while 'werewolves' like Setsuna and Shiroko only have wolf forms. Neither the human form nor the wolf form will lose control. Only the werewolf form will lose its mind on a full moon night.

"If those werewolves had the same magic circuits as wizards, this transformation might be simple!"

Professor McGonagall's expression changed, because she saw something more in this possibility. Because if the magic circuits of werewolves and wizards in werewolf form are the same, then the difficulty of transforming a werewolf into a human is the same as that of an Animagus.

The requirement for both is to retain the magic circuit while transforming oneself into another form.

And if this experiment can be successful, it will become a strong proof of Ash's theory!

So what if Ash could transform a werewolf in wolf form back into a human while retaining its magical circuits. So can he, in turn, turn people into animals while retaining their magic circuits?

Does this mean that wizards can also transform into Animagus with the help of outsiders?

If it can really be done, then there may be the possibility of mass production of Animagus, and the status of transfiguration in the wizarding world will inevitably rise with the tide. For Professor McGonagall, who has devoted most of her life to Transfiguration, this can almost be regarded as her lifelong pursuit!

But even though she realized that this might be an opportunity for Transfiguration, Professor McGonagall's expression became solemn, and she said in a deep voice:

"Mr. Black, you can continue to experiment on those werewolves, but I hope that you will not make your theories and research public."

As expected, Ash showed a surprised expression. He hesitated for a while and asked:

"Yes, yes, but I want to know why."

Professor McGonagall said earnestly:

"Mr. Black, you have to know that not all wizards can restrain their desires. If your theory is made public, I am sure that it will be quickly accepted by a large number of wizards, but it will also cause some wizards to start experimenting on others .They will try to transform other wizards into animagus, or even magical creatures."

"But most wizards actually lack this kind of talent, and their experiments will inevitably have extremely serious consequences!"

Ash's expression was serious, and he seemed to have seen the consequences of making the theory public. He nodded solemnly and said:

"Don't worry, Professor McGonagall, I will only show you this paper."

"Thank you for your understanding, Mr. Black."

Professor McGonagall's eyes were soft, pleased with Ash's sacrifice.

The publication of this paper will undoubtedly bring Ash a huge reputation, which is an honor that is hard to refuse for any student. However, Ash can stick to his heart and refuse this temptation, which is really commendable.

However, what she didn't know was that Ash had no intention of publishing the paper.

He deliberately wrote such a paper for Professor McGonagall to read, just so that she could further endorse his experiment.

After all, what he will do next will bring a little shock to Hogwarts.
