#161 - quarrel
With the ample resources of Xavier's Institute, Peter and the others enjoyed a rare luxury after many years.
Whatever they had in their hearts, they temporarily put it aside tonight, enjoying the rare joy.
However, everyone knew their limits. Even Peter and the Tinkerer, both middle-aged, knew not to overindulge. After drinking one or two cans of beer, they put down the wheat juice and started drinking regular beverages.
Peter held a cup of cola, sitting in a corner watching the Fantastic Twins feast, a slight smile on his face, looking like a father watching his children.
"Do you mind if I sit next to you?" Moonstone walked over with a plate. After taking a shower and changing into new clothes, Moonstone looked stunning.
Especially her vibrant blonde hair, complementing her fair skin, was as dazzling as a gemstone.
"Of course not."
Peter's eyes narrowed slightly, and for a moment he seemed to see another graceful figure, but that person should have had red hair.
He shook his head, throwing the thoughts out of his mind, which made Moonstone a little confused.
"What's wrong?" Moonstone chose a suitable distance to sit down, seemingly casually tossing her hair, a familiar and pleasant scent wafted out, lingering around Peter's nose.
Don't get me wrong, this wasn't a woman's natural scent, just the smell of shampoo. As for why it was familiar, it was because Peter smelled the same as Moonstone; they used the same bath products.
"It's nothing, just remembering some old memories." Peter took a sip of cola, the intense carbonation stimulating his tongue. He slowly exhaled, preferring cola to adult beverages.
Moonstone didn't reply, just sat beside him, silently taking a sip of cola, the carbonation causing her to frown slightly.
"I didn't think you'd like this kind of drink?" Peter, whose headache was gone, revealed his talkative nature again, unable to resist starting a conversation.
"I'm curious, what kind of image do I have in your mind?" Moonstone gathered her legs, hugging her slender and well-proportioned legs, resting her head on her knees, and looking at Peter sideways.
"Uh... a socialite who frequents high-end parties?" Peter said uncertainly.
"Why is that a question?" Moonstone found it amusing, using two fingers to pinch the rim of the cup, gently shaking the paper cup.
Peter was speechless. He realized that he didn't really understand this comrade he had worked with for many years. He had been too preoccupied with his headaches and the children to think about other things.
The two remained silent. Peter was awkwardly unsure of what to say, while Moonstone seemed lost in thought, her golden hair slowly falling, obscuring her beautiful face, making it impossible for Peter to read her thoughts.
"You know, Peter."
After a while, Moonstone took the initiative to break the silence, stopping the Spider-Man who wanted to make a joke, maintaining the ambiguous atmosphere.
"I've been thinking, what if we could just keep going like this?"
Moonstone moved her body, slightly raising her feet. As a mature woman, Moonstone's girlish action seemed a little cute, even making Peter's heart beat faster.
"It's not bad." The Spider-Kid seemed a little wooden at this time, not knowing if it was intentional or unintentional.
"Ample food and water, a warm shelter from the wind and rain, complete equipment, if only we could keep going like this."
"That's not what I meant." Moonstone interrupted Peter.
"Can't you tell?"
"Tell what?" Peter's eyes were hidden in the shadows, making it impossible to see his thoughts.
"Franklin and Valeria." Moonstone whispered the twins' names, obviously not wanting them to hear.
"Don't tell me you haven't noticed, those two kids haven't given up on their plan. They still want to cure their parents."
Peter didn't speak, just held the cup to his lips, not drinking, just holding it silently.
"You know that's impossible, we have to stop them, if they do what they did before..."
"What if they do what they did before?"
A voice suddenly interrupted the two's conversation. They looked up and found that the speaker was Valeria, one of the Fantastic Twins, who was the subject of their conversation.
"Hey! Little Val!" Peter catapulted up from the ground, standing between Valeria and Moonstone, obviously afraid that this child, called Smart Star but actually a Human Torch, would argue with Moonstone.
"How was it, are you full? Although it's all canned food, I think it's pretty good. Wow, your clothes are really nice, did you find them yourself?"
His words were disjointed, making Franklin unable to maintain his serious expression. Even Valeria faintly showed signs of breaking down, after all, they hadn't seen such a lively Peter for a long time. The serious impression was broken, which had a considerable effect at this time.
Peter breathed a sigh of relief in his heart, thinking he had gotten away with it, but Moonstone behind him spoke up.
"If you sneak out like you did before, you will kill everyone here."
Moonstone came behind Peter at some point, gently pushed him aside, and confronted Valeria head-on.
"This is bad." Yang Le was originally discussing Biomitrix-related issues with the Tinkerer, but was interrupted by the sudden quarrel. Looking back, he discovered this troublesome scene.
"Sigh~" The Tinkerer couldn't help but support his forehead, obviously feeling a headache as well.
"Opportunity always comes with risk." Franklin also participated in the argument. On this matter, the siblings were of one mind.
"To save everyone, we must take risks, just like my father always did."
"Give me a break, Franklin." Moonstone dismissed Franklin's statement.
"We all know that's impossible."
"Why is it impossible?" Valeria retorted.
"Because they're already dead!" Moonstone suddenly burst out, interrupting Valeria's words.
"The cells of those things were already completely dead when they transformed. How are you going to use medicine to revive a dead person! How can you two geniuses not understand the principle that dead people can't be revived?"
Moonstone's outburst brought a silence. Peter, who wanted to stop her, couldn't say a word, and the Tinkerer sitting in the distance was also silent, obviously thinking the same way.
Valeria looked around and found that, except for Yang Le, everyone's expressions were so unfamiliar, numb, and resigned, which in Valeria's view was like being dead.
It seems that the plan may have to be changed.
