#21 - Spider-power blunder
At Gwen's insistence, Yang Le reluctantly agreed to let her help in the kitchen.
However, it was a very simple dish, not requiring many steps. Yang Le was basically handling everything, with Gwen just passing him the seasonings.
"Okay, now we just have to wait," Yang Le said, covering the pot and pressing the kitchen timer.
"Is bread okay for the main course?" Yang Le pulled out a kraft paper bag from another shopping bag, which contained bread bought from the bakery.
Gwen gave an OK sign and then took a basket from the cupboard, preparing to put the bread in it.
Seeing this, Yang Le handed her the job of putting the bread in the basket while he took out four sets of cutlery from the cupboard to set the table.
When Yang Le turned around, he saw Gwen holding a piece of bread in her right hand and shaking it non-stop, while the basket in front of her was empty.
"Habby, help me," Gwen asked Yang Le for help. "This bread seems to be stuck to my hand."
Yang Le understood that Gwen's Spider-Man abilities were gradually starting to manifest. First, it was her enhanced physique, and now it was her adhesion ability.
"Okay, relax, I'll help you," Yang Le said, gesturing for Gwen not to move, and then walked over to help her remove the bread from her hand.
"Is there glue on this bread or something?" Gwen complained as she held out her right hand to Yang Le.
"Of course there's no glue on this bread. Is it possible that the problem is your hand?" Yang Le pulled hard and tore the bread off, but a layer of bread still remained on Gwen's hand.
"What could be wrong with my hand? Would I put glue on my hand to make things difficult for myself?" Gwen glared at Yang Le, saying angrily.
"Gwen, haven't you noticed that you're acting strange today?"
"What's wrong? I feel great right now."
Gwen was telling the truth. Ever since she woke up, she felt like she had endless energy. Her body felt lighter, her vision was clearer, and she even noticed that her abs looked more perfect when she changed clothes earlier.
"That's exactly why it's strange," Yang Le said, looking at the bread stuck to Gwen's hand. He had no choice but to take her to the sink to wash the bread off her hand.
"Like just now, you accurately caught the ingredients Mary Jane threw, and now your hand is stuck to the bread. Think carefully, what turned you into this?"
Faced with Yang Le's question, Gwen fell silent. In fact, she had also noticed that something was wrong with herself, and she probably knew the reason. The reason she pretended that everything was normal was because she was worried that Yang Le would see her as an anomaly.
"You promise you won't hate me," Gwen said, lowering her head so that Yang Le couldn't see her expression, but from her tone, Yang Le could tell that the girl was very worried.
"I promise, Gwen, no matter what happens, I could never hate you."
Yang Le bent down and put his hand on Gwen's shoulder, guaranteeing it solemnly.
Gwen looked up at Yang Le's eyes, seeing only the firmness inside and her own unease.
She had heard people say more than once that the eyes are the windows to the soul, and that you can tell if someone is lying from their eyes. She hadn't really believed it before, but now she was starting to believe it.
"I was actually bitten by that spider..." Gwen stared straight into Yang Le's eyes, afraid of seeing a trace of hesitation in them.
"It was that 65B spider we saw. It probably ran out when someone knocked over the display case while it was escaping, and then I don't know why it ran onto me and bit me."
As Gwen spoke, she held out her left hand hidden under her sleeve. Yang Le looked closely and saw that there was indeed a small red mark near the base of her thumb, which was very conspicuous on her fair skin.
"I won't turn into a monster, will I?" Gwen's voice even had a hint of crying, and her watery eyes were filled with mist, making Yang Le's heart ache.
"It's okay, Gwen," Yang Le said, hugging Gwen. Although he knew that Gwen-Spider wouldn't turn into a Spider-Monster, he couldn't help but comfort her in the face of the tearful Gwen.
"Don't worry, I'll help you, trust me, okay?"
"Yeah," Gwen replied, burying her head in Yang Le's chest. Then she didn't move anymore. Yang Le assumed she was just calming down, so he let her stay there.
"Uh, Gwen, it's about time to let go, right?" Yang Le glanced at the timer and noticed that half the time had already passed, so he couldn't help but remind her.
'No fun,' Gwen rolled her eyes, preparing to leave Yang Le's embrace, but she found that her left hand, which she had placed on the right side of Yang Le's chest due to her posture, was now stuck.
"What's wrong, Gwen?" Yang Le asked, looking at Gwen, who had stopped moving. He had a faint feeling that something was wrong. Sure enough, Gwen's next answer made his heart sink.
"I... I can't get it off," Gwen said, looking at her left hand stuck to Yang Le's clothes, feeling frustrated. She prepared to yank it off.
"It's okay, relax, Gwen," Yang Le quickly stopped Gwen from pulling it off forcefully. If it tore, not to mention whether there was a replacement, if people outside saw it, they would definitely misunderstand.
"This is one of your abilities. You have to learn to control it. Now, relax and think about taking your hand off my clothes."

"I've been thinking about it just now, but it's not working."
"That's because you're not focused enough," Yang Le whispered, trying to make himself sound gentle. "Relax, just think of it as walking, just your normal physiological function, don't reject it."
Under Yang Le's comfort, Gwen closed her eyes, slowly relaxed, and began to try to let her hand leave Yang Le's clothes. Gradually, she felt that the fabric her hand was touching was decreasing, and she was about to succeed.
"Hi! How's dinner going, you two?"
Mary Jane's voice suddenly rang out. Gwen, who was concentrating on her left hand, was startled and lost control of her adhesion ability. Her left hand was firmly stuck to Yang Le's clothes again.
Not only that, but Gwen, afraid of being discovered, desperately wanted to pull back her left hand. Under the effect of her super strength and adhesion ability, she directly tore off Yang Le's clothes.
'Oh no, can it get any worse?' Gwen thought, looking at Yang Le's well-built chest muscles.
"I heard Habby is cooking today, I'm looking forward to it." The voice coming from outside the kitchen was very familiar. At this moment, the voice of the person closest to her sounded like the death knell from hell to Gwen.
"What's wrong, Mary Jane?" George asked curiously, looking at Mary Jane, who was standing blankly at the kitchen door.
"It can't be that Habby blew up the kitchen..." George looked at the scene in front of him and also fell silent. His face gradually turned dark and scary.
"Actually, I can explain..."
"Get out of here right now!"
George's angry roar interrupted Yang Le's explanation.
