#270 - Eating enough is no longer a luxury
The three quickly arrived at a place by the sea. Looking up, they could see the floating sky island in the distance. Once they arrived, Scott pulled out a device that looked like a walkie-talkie.
"This is Scott," Scott said, turning on the walkie-talkie. "Come pick us up, Kurt."
After a few seconds, a childish voice came from the walkie-talkie, accompanied by a faint static sound.
"This is Kurt, I'll be there soon."
As soon as he finished speaking, a cloud of blue smoke suddenly appeared in front of the three, and then a young man with blue skin and fur landed on the ground.
"I told you, I'd be there soon, isn't that faster than before?" Nightcrawler Kurt said with a smile, then he saw Yang Le standing beside him. "And this is?"
"Our new colleague," Gambit said, putting his arm around Yang Le's shoulder. "Also, the Jesus who will feed us."
"So, he's the new gardener!" Kurt exclaimed, his eyes wide with surprise. "Great! The feeling of being hungry is really terrible."
"Are you guys very short on food?" Yang Le frowned. Not only Kurt, but Gambit had mentioned not having enough to eat more than once. Yang Le also noticed that although Kurt's blue skin made it difficult to observe, Yang Le could still tell that Kurt was a little malnourished.
"Yes," Scott said with a wry smile. "I'm sorry, but you might be disappointed. We do live a life of starvation."
"There's no way around it, who told us to be mutants," Gambit said mockingly. "Those normal people basically don't want to interact with mutants. Even if someone is willing to sell us things, they will jack up the prices. It's common for mutants to buy things for two to three times the price of ordinary people, some even cost ten times as much."
Speaking of this, Gambit clenched his fist and continued, "Can you imagine, a lollipop actually costs 10 dollars? You'd think I was buying drugs!"
Gambit's words silenced everyone. This kind of discrimination is unacceptable to any modern person, yet mutants suffer this treatment every moment.
Finally, Yang Le stood up to comfort the others.
"It's okay, now that I'm here, at least you don't have to worry about vegetables."
"That's right, brother," Gambit said again, beaming. "Now that you're here, I can finally kick that vegetable supplier's butt. I've been looking at him unhappily for a long time."
"Me too!" Kurt waved his right hand angrily, his tail swinging back and forth behind him. "Last time he even called me a Smurf! If it weren't for the fact that I wanted everyone to have enough to eat, I would have punched him a long time ago."
"Let's not talk about these things," Scott quickly changed the subject. He was afraid that if this continued, everyone, especially Kurt, would develop a deeper hatred for humans. If that happened, Professor Xavier's efforts would be in vain.
"Let's go back to the academy quickly. Kurt has classes to attend in the afternoon, and Harby needs to familiarize himself with his future work environment. We have a lot of things to do."
The topic was interrupted, so no one wanted to mention those disgusting things again. Kurt grabbed Scott's hand and said.
"You guys hold on tight to each other, I'll teleport you all back at once."
Before Kurt could finish speaking, Gambit grabbed Yang Le's hand, grabbed Scott with the other hand, and said, "We're ready."
With a snap, everyone disappeared from the spot. Almost in the blink of an eye, Yang Le found himself standing on a cliff overgrown with weeds. Looking into the distance, he could even see the port of New York where they had just been.
"Huff~ Huff~" Kurt supported his knees and panted heavily. This teleportation included a total of four people, including himself, which consumed most of his physical strength, feeling like an ordinary person running several kilometers.
"Thank you for your hard work, Kurt," Scott patted Kurt's shoulder. "Go back and rest quickly. If you're too tired, I can ask for leave for you this afternoon."
Kurt waved his hand, panting heavily and said, "No, no need, if I miss classes, that would be bad, I'll go back and rest first."
Gambit supported Kurt and said, "I'll take this tough guy back to the dormitory first, you can take Harby to familiarize yourself with the environment first."
Scott nodded, agreeing to Gambit's suggestion, and then took Yang Le in another direction. They were going to the farmland cultivated by the academy, which was where Yang Le would be working in the future.
They stopped and went along the way, because they met many other mutants. Some of them Yang Le knew were members of the X-Men, and some he had never even heard of, probably just some passers-by.
But these people looked a little embarrassed, their clothes were old, and their faces were thin. It was obvious that they were living a very hard life, but without exception, they all had genuine smiles on their faces.
It seems that more than material things, living in an environment where they are not respected or discriminated against is what these mutants need. At least here they can be treated as human beings.
After about twenty minutes, the two finally arrived at a piece of land surrounded by a fence. This was obviously Yang Le's future job position.
Without Scott's introduction, Yang Le consciously crossed the fence and stood on the tilled soil. Looking at the looseness and moisture of the soil, the intuition of the Swampfire told him that the soil had been tilled not long ago.
"This is the farmland we built ourselves not long ago," Scott introduced. "But we are just a group of laymen, we don't know if we're doing it right, we can only follow the steps taught online. The seeds have been sown in the soil, and we don't know if they will grow."
"Normally, it's impossible," Yang Le squatted down and pinched a handful of soil. It's already autumn, this is not a game, and it is impossible to grow crops outdoors.
"But it's different now that I'm here," Yang Le said, standing up. Originally, Yang Le wanted to hide his abilities and cultivate some crops, but what he had seen and heard along the way made him change his mind.
The sallow-faced children, looking at Yang Le with hopeful eyes under Scott's introduction, were expecting a long-awaited full meal. These children should have been nestled in their parents' arms, enjoying delicious food, but now even eating a full meal has become a luxury.
Normal people can't sit idly by, let alone this is easy for Yang Le, and there is no reason to hide it now.
Removing his gloves, revealing his yellow hands, as Yang Le raised his hands, the few acres of farmland opened up by Scott and the others began to shake, and green plants emerged from the soil, maturing at a speed visible to the naked eye.
"So, it's corn," Yang Le said with a smile, breaking off an ear of corn and throwing it to the stunned Scott.
"Go tell the children, they can eat their fill today."
