#426 - The Queen and the Fairy
"Then let them come!"
Gambit flipped his wrist, and several playing cards appeared in his hand. Pink energy enveloped the cards, and in the blink of an eye, these small cards transformed into terrifying bombs.
"Be careful, Remy," Beast, Hank, warned. "This is the center of the village."
Dissipating the energy, the cards danced between Gambit's fingers, disappearing in the blink of an eye as if they had never existed.
"I agree with Remy," Storm, Ororo, said, standing up and holding flowers. "If six mutants had died, it wouldn't have caused such a stir. Besides, those people deserved it. If we don't stand behind our fellow mutants now, their experiences might be even more miserable than mine."
Speaking of her past experiences, Ororo shivered slightly, clearly not fully recovered from the shadows of the past, but this pain only strengthened her determination to protect mutants.
Seeing the atmosphere gradually becoming tense, Magneto, as the leader, stepped forward. As soon as he stood up, everyone in the room focused on him.
"Don't get excited, Remy and Ororo," Magneto said, holding out his hand to signal them to calm down. "No one said we wouldn't rescue them. The only purpose we all have here is to save our fellow mutants."
With Magneto's assurance, the atmosphere in the room eased slightly. Even the more rational Hank and Jean were harboring anger in their hearts, but they didn't show it.
"How to save them is the reason we called this meeting," Magneto gestured, and countless forks and spoons floated over. With Magneto's hand movements, these utensils were divided into two groups.
However, the distribution was very uneven. One side had only seven spoons, while the other had countless various utensils. Yang Le immediately understood that Old Wang was using objects to represent people.
"Unfortunately, children, I cannot help you due to some special reasons," Magneto said apologetically.
"Although our team is gradually expanding, we are still few in number compared to humans, and even more stretched compared to those masked vigilantes."
"Our mutant population is small, and every one of us is extremely important. I hope you will pay attention to your own safety while rescuing your companions, so our actions must be swift and accurate."
Magneto waved his hand, and the utensils began to return the way they came. He sighed and continued, "Try not to fight those masked vigilantes, but don't hold back if the other side is pressing too hard. I still say, with me around, the sky won't fall, for now."
"Yes, Headmaster!"
…
"How are you feeling?"
Hearing the familiar voice, the pink-haired girl trembled and looked up. She breathed a slight sigh of relief after seeing the face of her savior.
"I'm sorry, I've been away from the real world for too long. The changes in the outside world over the years have made me lose my bearings," the blonde girl said, carrying a full bag and placing it in front of the pink-haired girl. The various foods packed inside immediately spilled out.
"I was worried about what to do without money, but I didn't expect the shop owner to see me and say, 'Take it all! You can have whatever you want!' He's such a generous person."
'He's not generous, he's scared,' the pink-haired girl thought to herself.
The blonde girl took out a loaf of bread from the bag, tore open the packaging, and took a big bite, then nodded in satisfaction.
"Things from the human world are still so delicious. I haven't eaten something like this in years," the blonde girl said, smiling as she looked at the bread in her hand, as if the packaged food was the most delicious thing in the world. But soon, she noticed the pink-haired girl hadn't moved.
"My name is Illyana Rasputina, what's your name, Sprite?" Illyana asked, squatting in front of the pink-haired girl.
"S-Sprite?" the pink-haired girl asked, raising her head in surprise. "M-Me?"
"Of course, you," Illyana said, taking another bite of bread. "You have wings on your back, pink hair, and such beautiful eyes, just like a sprite in a fairy tale."
"M-My name is Megan Gwynn," Megan said, her face flushed, seemingly embarrassed by Illyana's description of her.
"Okay, Megan," Illyana said, fumbling in the bag for another loaf of bread and handing it to Megan. "Here, eat it. Aren't you hungry?"
In fact, Megan had been hungry for a long time. Rather, she hadn't eaten anything all day. Neil and his gang were always like this. After consuming the hallucinogenic dust she produced, they would be in a daze for a long time. During this time, they couldn't even take care of themselves, let alone feed her.
As for her finding something to eat herself, that was even more unthinkable. Megan had once tried to rummage through the refrigerator for food because she couldn't stand the hunger, but Neil, who was high, thought she was trying to escape and beat her up. Since then, she never dared to act on her own initiative again. Even going to the bathroom required Neil's permission.
Megan was still stunned, reminiscing about the past, but Illyana couldn't wait any longer. She roughly stuffed the bread into Megan's slightly open mouth. Megan was startled by the intrusion of the foreign object, and then she reacted.
The most ⊥ new ⊥ small ⊥ say ⊥ in ⊥ six ⊥ 9 ⊥⊥ book ⊥⊥ bar ⊥⊥ first ⊥ hair!
Megan took the bread with her trembling hands and gently took a small bite. The sweet cream melted on the tip of her tongue, and it was like a floodgate opening, unstoppable. Megan began to gobble it down.
For no reason, Megan felt that the more she ate the bread, the more bitter it became. When she looked at Illyana, she realized that she had already cried her eyes out in the other's eyes, and large tears kept falling, eventually dripping onto the bread.
"Alright, alright," Illyana said, taking another bottle of milk from the bag and placing it next to Megan after unscrewing the lid. "There's plenty here. If it's not enough, I'll go get more. That shop owner is very generous."
"Wuwuwu!" Megan cried, her face covered in tears. 'That's definitely not generosity.'
"Hmm?" Illyana suddenly frowned, abruptly turning her head to look behind her. Megan was also startled by the other's sudden movement, forgetting the cream on her mouth, and asked.
"W-What's wrong?"
"Something's coming," Illyana stood up, eating the last bite of bread in her hand. "Find a place to hide. Don't come out unless I call you."
"I-Is it the people who captured us?" Megan asked cautiously. When she escaped, she had noticed the dead Neil and others, so she wouldn't be surprised by the human pursuit.
"Don't worry, Sprite," Illyana said, walking towards the outside without turning her head, her waist-length golden hair swaying. "You won't be captured. That's the Queen's promise to you."
