#447 - Super Soldier Beyond Hyperion
After confirming that Howard had really left, Bruce swept the extra documents on the table to the side, revealing the truly valuable things he had hidden inside. Looking at the thick bound volume, Bruce smiled gently.
"It's not your turn to appear yet," Bruce said softly, not noticing a slender figure quietly approaching from behind.
"Sentry… What is this thing?"
The familiar voice rang in his ears, a heavenly sound he usually enjoyed, but now it was like the grim reaper from hell coming to claim his life, catching Bruce completely off guard.
"Wah!" Bruce shouted, losing his grip on the bound volume, which fell directly to the ground. He lunged forward, knocking over the table in front of him, sending the documents flying up like snowflakes, slowly falling and scattering all over the floor, with the spilled cold coffee staining them.
"Oh my god! Are you okay, Bruce?" Betty didn't expect her boyfriend to react like that and rushed over to pull Bruce up from the overturned table.
"My back!" Bruce supported his back where he had hit the table, wincing as he stood up with Betty's help. Seeing the brown coffee stains on the white papers, he forgot about his aching back and frantically started searching through the documents.
Seeing Bruce's panicked expression, Betty knew she had caused trouble, and possibly a big one. She hurriedly ran to Bruce's side to help him.
Thanks to General Ross's upbringing, Betty could handle things calmly when she encountered them. She stopped Bruce's frantic actions, picked out all the documents stained with coffee to prevent further soaking of the other documents, and carefully separated the already soaked documents, spreading them out one by one on the open space.
"Found it!"
Bruce's joyful voice came, and Betty dropped the work she had finished to return to Bruce's side. On closer inspection, Bruce was indeed holding the bound volume she had seen earlier with the word 'Sentry' written on the cover.
"I'm so sorry, Bruce," Betty immediately apologized. "I always acted like this with others at home, but they never got scared by me, so I didn't pay attention. I'm really sorry."
Bruce also knew that although this was Betty's fault, she couldn't be entirely blamed, after all, it was a habit she had developed since childhood.
Betty's father, General Ross, became a general based on solid achievements. He had survived a round in the killing field and returned alive. His observation of the surrounding environment was definitely far superior to ordinary people, so it was naturally difficult for Betty to scare him. And her brother Mark, needless to say, his other name Hyperion was enough to explain everything.
Knowing this, Bruce actually had no intention of blaming Betty at all, not to mention that the really important things were completely unharmed, so it was even less likely that he would get angry. But appropriate reminders were still necessary, all for the sake of his own little heart.
"Just don't do it again," Bruce adjusted his glasses that had fallen down. "You have to know, Betty, I'm just a scholar who spends all his time in the lab, not as alert as your brother and your father."
"I won't do it again," Betty stuck out her tongue, then curiously looked at Bruce's arms and asked, "What is that thing that makes you so concerned? I'm getting jealous."
"This thing concerns our future," Bruce said seriously, seeing Betty's increased curiosity, he reluctantly handed her the book.
"What the heck is this?" Betty took the book in her hand and opened it immediately, but the words written inside hit her head directly like a boxer's fist, making her dizzy.
What is this thing? Aren't I a Cambridge University graduate? How can I not understand a single word?
"This is the super-soldier serum that General Ross asked me to develop," Bruce explained when he saw that Betty didn't understand.
"Is that the Second Generation Captain America project?" Betty closed the book, rejecting the knowledge that attempted to destroy her mind.
The last time she went to call her dad for dinner, she did accidentally hear about such a plan outside his room. At that time, her dad severely criticized her, but afterwards, he still told her a little bit, telling her that this was a plan created by the government to boost public confidence, wanting to use the celebrity effect to encourage citizens and soldiers, and also told her not to leak it in advance.
Of course, Betty wouldn't tell, she was forced to eavesdrop in the first place, and she wasn't the kind of brainless rich daughter in TV series. If Bruce hadn't participated in this plan, she wouldn't even tell him.
"That's right, you also know that the gap between our identities is a bit too big," Bruce said with a wry smile.
"But you also know that my family doesn't care about this, Bruce," Betty frowned in dissatisfaction. "Besides, if your talent could be converted into wealth, then I should be unworthy of you. So don't say these useless words anymore."
"I know, Betty, but I don't want your family to suffer gossip because of me," Bruce hurriedly comforted Betty. "You have to know that those big shots are glamorous on the surface, but they use all sorts of dirty tricks in private. Isn't General Ross trying to run for president? I can't become his burden at this time."
Betty was very pleased with Bruce's behavior of working hard for her family before even marrying her. The careful she didn't dwell on this matter, and shifted the topic to the bound volume in her hand.
"So this is the future you came up with?"
"That's right, this 'Sentry' is the future that I have poured all my efforts into," Bruce nodded solemnly. "In simple terms, it is an enhanced version of the super-soldier serum, but it is not perfect yet. But don't worry, I will complete it before the election, and General Ross will definitely be able to win the election."
Although she knew her boyfriend was very powerful, Betty still felt incredible. How powerful would an invention that could influence the election be?
"Really? Is this thing that powerful?"
"Of course, if my calculations and inferences are correct, then the person who takes the 'Sentry' will surpass your brother Hyperion!"
Betty looked at her boyfriend's high-spirited appearance and couldn't bear to dampen his confidence. Surpass her brother? How could that be? Hyperion was the strongest superhero she had ever seen, no, the world had ever acknowledged.
Even now, TV still occasionally plays the video of Hyperion moving a mountain to facilitate the construction of a road for the country. That video has deterred many villains and reduced the crime rate in the United States for several months.
