The Comprehensive Evolution of American Comics
#577 - Thanos Strikes
New York City, despite being a young city with only about a hundred years of history, has an undeniable global influence.
But today, this city was destroyed by a spear no more than two meters long. One can't help but marvel at the imagination of writers, especially American comic book authors, who dare to fill in any number they can think of.
And now, this spear, with power far exceeding that of "Little Boy," has transformed into three beams of light, each as thick as two fingers, hanging on Yang Le's chest. Their constant flickering seems to be reminding Yang Le that it was they who made him so disheveled.
Reaching out to grab the light beams, Yang Le wasn't surprised to find that, in their non-physical state, they couldn't be grasped by mere flesh. He guessed only their wielder had that privilege. In the comics, Hulk was suppressed for quite a while by the Spear of Absolute Annihilation turned into light beams.
But Yang Le isn't Hulk, and what's piercing him isn't the Spear of Absolute Annihilation from the comics. Although it's much stronger than the fishing rod that Captain America could casually catch in the movie universe, based on Yang Le's actual experience of being impaled, it's far less powerful than its comic book counterpart.
Probably another weakened version.
Since he couldn't pull it out, he had to think of another way. Just as Yang Le was about to do so, a blue portal quietly opened in front of him.
The portal opened silently, and if it hadn't opened right in front of him, Yang Le might not have even noticed it. Before he could ponder who it was, a tall figure slowly walked out of the portal.
Purple skin, a peculiar chin, and bronze-colored gauntlets—this person was none other than the leader of the invasion of Earth, the cosmic tyrant who had already obtained five Infinity Stones: Thanos.
"This is the first time I've seen a creature like you," Thanos commented after seeing Yang Le's appearance.
"To withstand the attack of the Spear of Absolute Annihilation head-on and still be alive and unscathed… if I didn't have the Reality Stone, I would have thought I was being deceived."
"If this is enough to surprise you, then I can only say you're too ignorant."
Seeing Thanos's appearance, Yang Le temporarily suppressed the idea of pulling out the spear, thinking he might be able to feign weakness and then catch Thanos off guard.
"Perhaps," Thanos's expression didn't change, clearly not taking Yang Le's provocation to heart.
"In this universe, I can indeed be considered knowledgeable, but in the face of the vast and boundless multiverse, I can only be considered a frog in a well."
"You know my identity?" Yang Le was somewhat surprised; he had only told the Avengers about his origins in a half-truthful manner.
"You said you were a Martian." Thanos snapped his fingers, and the memory of Ebony Maw's battle with Yang Le was played back in a bubble-like object.
"I asked the Reality Stone to determine if this statement was true, and whether such a creature existed in the universe, but I received no answer."
Thanos's expression became serious as he continued, "The Infinity Stones are omnipotent. There is nothing they cannot do in this universe, so there is only one answer I can think of."
Chapter One: Invincible; Chapter Two: Visitor from the Sky, huh?
Seemingly in a crisis, Yang Le still had the leisure to think about irrelevant things in his mind, perhaps because he had been with Spider-Man-related superheroes for too long. Even Gwen was actually a hidden chatterbox, and Gwenpool was an absolute otaku.
Yang Le was either influenced by his environment or was just showing his true colors. In any case, he would never admit that he was originally a perverted personality.
"I know," Thanos said, standing in front of Yang Le. "There are countless obstacles on the path to fulfilling destiny, but I didn't expect that people from other universes would come to stop me."
"Now! Tell me where they are!"
Thanos raised his left hand, adorned with the Infinity Gauntlet, and the Mind Stone embedded in it emitted a yellow light. A massive mental energy surged towards Yang Le like a tidal wave.
Clearly, Thanos knew that Yang Le was a master of mind and spirit, so he used far more energy than he would against ordinary creatures. Ordinary creatures would probably suffer brain death in less than a second under this immense energy.
Even Martians, who were powerful in the mental realm, couldn't be careless when facing the Mind Stone. Frankly, Yang Le wasn't sure how long he could withstand the Mind Stone.
At this moment, Yang Le was like a small boat on the ocean, resisting the essence of a universe with his own mental strength.
This act was undeniably great, and even Thanos, as his enemy, was sincerely impressed by Yang Le's actions. If he had met such a powerful person before, he would have definitely tried to befriend them.
But not now. Thanos had burdened himself with a mission heavier than mountains: he had to save a universe, his own universe, and Yang Le, who stood in his way, seemed even more like an invader to Thanos.
"Boom!"
Thanos's heavy fist landed squarely on Yang Le's face. Although the power of this punch wasn't as great as the previous Spear of Absolute Annihilation, it still exceeded that of a typical missile.
"Why can you be so righteous!" Thanos questioned sternly, his face illuminated by the purple light on his gauntlet as he sent Yang Le flying hundreds of meters away.
Anger. Thanos hadn't been this angry in a long time. He could accept the misunderstanding of those who shared the same stars as him, but he couldn't tolerate the sanctimony from other universes.

"I am saving my own universe!"
An invisible force pulled Yang Le, dragging him in front of Thanos. The purple light intensified, and another heavy punch landed on Yang Le's face, embedding him straight into the ground.
"Amputate a finger if the nail grows long?" Yang Le struggled to climb out of the dirt. "A miraculous cure, indeed, you divine doctor."
Yang Le mocked Thanos's overreaction, or perhaps he was mocking him for bullying the weak, but neither could stir up any waves in Thanos's heart. As a powerful being who clearly knew his goal and had lived for countless years, Thanos's confidence couldn't be shaken by a few words.
"Words are always powerless," Thanos straightened up once again. "Rather than wasting time talking to you, I might as well continue my mission."
"Buzz!"
Red, the color representing the Reality Stone, was also the most dangerous stone in Yang Le's eyes, because its ability to alter reality seemed impossible to defend against. Most alien heroes had no way to deal with it.
The red energy began to spread, gradually enveloping Yang Le. Although he didn't know what Thanos would do to him with the Reality Stone, once it took hold, it would probably be a dead end.
Although it was just the life of a clone, Yang Le didn't want to give it up so easily. Like playing an electronic dragon, he still had to struggle.
