#668 - Nighttime travel is dangerous

"Alright, spill it. Just how much did you take?"

Betty took another drag, then stubbed out the cigarette on the nearby wall.

Cindy didn't say anything, just spread her hands and turned in a circle, but her meaning was clear.

"Everything, right?" Betty covered her forehead. "If I tell Mr. Parker about this, how long do you think you'll be grounded for?"

"Please, don't, Betty!" Cindy quickly stepped forward, grabbed Betty's arm, and shook it. "I'm doing a good thing here. Look, if it weren't for me today, you would have been in danger."

"That's true." Betty sighed. Threatening the person who just saved your life right after being rescued – only a true beast would do that.

But what Cindy was doing was indeed very dangerous. She and Peter had been childhood friends, and Cindy was practically someone she had watched grow up. To her, she was no different from a younger sister.

Letting her sister be a masked vigilante? Any normal parent would object to such a threatening thing, right?

"You have to come back with me." After thinking it over, Betty decided to be a good guardian. "This is too dangerous, Cindy. You don't know what you're trying to do."

"I do know, and I think I can do it with the power I have now."

As she spoke, Cindy walked towards the wall, and to Betty's shock, she walked up the wall as if it were flat ground.

"I haven't heard of Parker Industries inventing such technology." Betty murmured.

"This isn't my family's invention." Cindy said, then held out her right hand to Betty, making a rock-like gesture. A white web shot out from her wrist.

The web was extremely fast, and before Betty could react, it stuck to her. Then, she felt a huge pulling force, and unable to resist, she was immediately pulled over.

"Ah~ Ugh!"

Before Betty could shout, Cindy immediately covered her mouth with her hand. The latter gestured for the former to be quiet, then wrapped her left arm around Betty and shot another web with her right hand, pulling them both towards the rooftop.

After rotating in the air to dissipate the force, Cindy gently landed on the rooftop with Betty in her arms, without making a sound.

"Woo-hoo!" Cindy cheered softly. "This is one of the reasons why I want to be a street hero. Isn't it exciting?"

Betty held onto Cindy's arm tightly, and after a while, she said through gritted teeth, "I will never do this again."

Ignoring Cindy's questioning "why," Betty staggered towards the rooftop access, then sat down on the ground, leaning against the wall.

Taking out a cigarette, she lit it and took a puff. Betty slowly exhaled the smoke and said, "You have superpowers, right? Cindy?"

"Huh?" Cindy tilted her head. "You mentioned the Superhuman Registration Act earlier. I thought you had already figured it out."

"Figured what out?!" Betty gritted her teeth and glared at Cindy. "When I mentioned the Registration Act, I hadn't recognized you yet, so I said that to prevent you from attacking me. After I recognized you, I thought you were relying on Parker Industries' technology to do all that."

The Spider-Woman, having revealed herself, scratched her head and showed an embarrassed, honest smile.

"Forget it." Betty rubbed her head. "I'll leave your problems for Peter to deal with. I'm going to hand you over to Peter, and that's final!"

"Uh..." Cindy chuckled awkwardly. "Actually, my brother knows about this."

Betty's hand holding the cigarette trembled slightly, and she felt a fire surge from the bottom of her heart straight to her head.

"Take me to that four-eyed guy!"

...

Watching her brother being unilaterally lectured by Betty, Spider-Woman Cindy was so frightened by the former's aura that she stood at attention. Perhaps she should find a chance to slip away quietly.

Having made up her mind, Cindy quietly walked towards the skylight while the two weren't paying attention.

They were currently located in the heart of Parker Industries, on the rooftop of Parker Tower. After Peter took over, it was set up as his own laboratory. As for his parents, they stayed in another Norman Tower with Uncle Norman for a long time.

Norman Chemical and Parker Industries had always been brother companies. This was the case from the first day the two companies were established. Although the two companies' research directions were different, both Norman Osborn and Richard Parker were rare talents.

So the two companies had always complemented each other, and recently the company's focus had been on Norman Chemical, so Richard Parker had moved there, which happened to give Peter a chance to train.

Who would have thought that as soon as his father left, Peter would turn his sister into a superhero? Betty was angry about this and quarreled with Peter.

At first, Peter was indeed frightened. He didn't expect Cindy to bring someone back, and this person was Betty Brant, who he knew very well.

This series of punches directly stunned Peter, causing Betty to take the initiative, until the latter said she was going to tell his dad, then Peter reacted.

"Wait a minute, Betty!" Peter stopped Betty from taking out her phone with the fastest speed in his life. "You at least have to give me a chance to explain, right?"

"Okay, I'll see what you can say." Betty slapped Parker's hand away, then sat in a chair and waited for the defendant's defense.

"Okay." Peter sighed. "This is actually like this..."

The judge waited for the defendant's statement, but neither of them noticed that the culprit had long since disappeared.

...

"Swish!"

Cindy shot out a web, relying on this thumb-thick white rope to cut through the night sky. Although it wasn't as good as real flight, the excitement it contained was similar.

"I really don't know what there is to argue about." Cindy said to herself. Even she herself didn't notice that since gaining superpowers, she would talk to herself whenever she was alone, and the frequency was constantly increasing.

"It's just being a street hero, right? I'm very careful, okay? Besides, I saved her life."

Originally, Cindy wasn't so obsessed with being a superhero. At first, she just wanted to imitate the predecessor with spider abilities, so even the style of the battle suit imitated the other party.

But after seeing someone close to her being attacked today, she increasingly felt that she should contribute a little bit of strength. Perhaps as long as she worked hard, one less person would be hurt.

But on her first day as a superhero, she was reported by her first customer. This was really a blow to her confidence.
