The Mountain of Ice and Fire
#140 - Special talents
“Bernie, I want to use this gold dragon to buy a pony.”
Bernie couldn't take it anymore. He jumped up and slapped Bull across the face, then held out his hand in front of her, making a gesture for money.
Bull was much taller than Bernie. Bernie was short and nimble, so he had to jump to reach her face.
Bull looked at Bernie, her eyes full of grievance.
“Quick, I don't want to do it on the road!” Bernie said sternly.
Bull took out the gold dragon that the Mountain had given her as a special reward from her bosom and placed it in Bernie's hand.
Bernie let out a melodious whistle and put the gold dragon into his pocket: “Silly woman, why didn't you give it to me earlier? You're just a damn bitch, you have to get slapped to be obedient. Damn bitch!” Bernie cursed, and with a snap, he kicked Bull in the butt.
Bull didn't move, but Bernie fell to the ground because he used too much force.
Some of the passersby laughed.
Bernie got up from the ground, angry and embarrassed. Anyway, the money was in hand, and he could go to Lannisport. He couldn't make it today, but he could stay overnight in Crakehall.
Since he was leaving anyway and didn't know when he would be back, he had to give this stupid woman a harsh memento.
It was she who made him fall and make a fool of himself! He had originally planned to let this bull-like stupid woman go, but she brought it on herself.
Although Bernie was small and weak, he was agile and nimble. He quickly climbed up a large tree by the roadside, broke off a branch, jumped down, and the first blow struck Bull's face, immediately drawing a bloody welt.
Bull seemed stunned, not protecting her head, standing there blankly, staring at Bernie.
“You dare to glare at me?” Bernie was even angrier. He was annoyed that he didn't see fear and terror in Bull's eyes. With the second blow, Bernie used all his strength, and with a whoosh, he slammed the branch across Bull's face.
A young passerby couldn't stand it any longer and reached out to grab the branch.
“Kid, why are you hitting an adult!” the young man said with a grin. His accent didn't sound like a local, and Bernie, who could imitate all sorts of voices, immediately heard the slight difference. This young man had a Lannisport accent.
“Who's a kid? You're the kid! Boy, let me tell you, this is my wife, and I can do whatever I want.” Bernie saw that the other party was a boy, with delicate features and no fierce aura. He was a person who had roamed the world and sold art, and although he didn't have the ability to fight, he was confident in his ability to judge people.
“I'm called Foul Mouth, big brother!” the young man said with a grin, then looked at Bull, “Big sister, who is this dwarf to you? If he's your husband, I'll help you enlighten him and teach him the great principles of loving his wife. If you don't know him, I'll help you teach him a lesson, take off his pants, and spank his ass.”
Bull looked at the boy who called himself Foul Mouth. This half-grown child really had a foul mouth, and the words he spoke didn't sound like the words of a good person. Although Bernie was short, he was an adult and had the strength to deal with a child.
Bull said, “Child, you should go. You can't beat him.”
Foul Mouth was indeed still a child. Some time ago, he fought twenty people empty-handed in the streets of Lannisport, and he was stabbed many times. It hadn't been long since he recovered, and he was already fair-skinned, so his face looked weak. Bull thought Foul Mouth was an honest child from an honest family.
“Big sister, it's not a question of whether you can beat him, it's a question of whether you should beat him. I have the best way to deal with scum like him. Some time ago, in Lannisport, I persuaded a rogue who loved to beat his wife very much, and that guy never beats his wife anymore. He listens to his wife and loves her wholeheartedly. He carries sacks at the docks to support his family, and when he gets off work at night, he doesn't go to brothels anymore, he goes home to be with his wife.”
“Really?” Bull was a simple-minded woman, her eyes flashing with little stars.
“Of course, I, Foul Mouth, never tell a lie.”
“Yes, I have never told a lie. Who the hell only tells one lie now? They all tell several lies in a row,” Bernie laughed, trying to snatch the branch with force, but it didn't budge in the boy's hand.
Bernie felt a chill in his heart!
Bull said, “Foul Mouth, how did you persuade that wife-beating rogue?”
“It's very simple. I first broke the hand he used to beat his wife, then snapped one of his little fingers. When he fainted from the pain, I tore his mouth apart little by little, waking him up again. Finally, I used the pommel of a short sword to knock out all his teeth, you know, the sword I used was this one.” Foul Mouth slowly took out a short sword from his bosom.
Just looking at the scabbard, the short sword was worth a lot.
Bernie's face changed instantly.
“Hehe, kid, I see you're young, so I won't bother with you. If you have the guts, wait here. I'll go get someone right away. You wait, don't move, and see if I don't take care of you, damn it! Don't you know who I am? I'm Bernie from Alexi's Village. I know a lot of nobles, and I'm good friends with them.” Bernie immediately ran away, moving quickly.
His eyes were fixed on this boy whom he might have misjudged. He retreated rapidly. Good, this boy with the 'murder weapon' in his hand didn't chase after him. Bernie breathed a sigh of relief, and while fleeing rapidly, he still wanted to say a few threatening words, when suddenly his neck tightened and he was lifted off the ground from behind.
“Put him down.” Foul Mouth said lazily, “Did I tell you to grab him?”
“Yes, Captain!” a rough voice said behind Bernie, the hot breath spraying on Bernie's neck.
He was let go, and Bernie fell to the ground.
He just lay on the ground, not getting up, to see what the situation was. There wasn't such an awesome young man in Casterly Rock, that was for sure. Oh, right, this guy's accent was from Lannisport.
Bernie saw that the man who had grabbed his neck and lifted him off the ground was a very burly man, with a fierce look on his face, just short of writing 'I'm a hooligan, who's afraid of me' on his face.
“Bernie, right, crawl over here yourself, and I won't break your arms, or knock out all your teeth, or break your fingers. I promise I won't hurt you.” Foul Mouth said with a grin.
Bernie's mind exploded, what kind of person had he run into today?!
When he met Foul Mouth's eyes, he understood that if he didn't crawl over, his happy life would be over.
Bernie didn't even know how he crawled over, he was terrified by an innocent-looking boy with a smile!
“Big sister, just now I heard you say that your husband can imitate all sorts of voices?” Foul Mouth asked Bull very kindly and politely.
Bull didn't answer Foul Mouth's words, but stepped forward, standing between Foul Mouth and Bernie, protecting Bernie.
“Big sister, don't be afraid, I was sent by Lord Gregor to protect you.” Foul Mouth smiled.
“Lord Gregor?”
“Yes. This morning you carried a log in Crakehall and earned two gold dragons. Thousands of people saw it on the great drill field. Ser Gregor was afraid that a woman like you would have your gold dragons robbed on the way home, so he sent me with a few brothers to follow you all the way until you got home safely. I'm a small soldier under Lord Gregor, and that fierce man over there, he looks fierce, but he's actually a good person. His name is Tony.”
Bull looked at Foul Mouth, her eyes gradually becoming wet.
This was the first time since she was old enough to understand things that she had been so cared for and protected by someone. The first time in her life!
Bernie said that the Mountain was a demon from hell, but Bull now knew that the Mountain—no, Lord Gregor was the best, the very best good person in the world, without exception.
Foul Mouth smiled: “Yo yo yo, big sister, don't be like this. There's something I really want to figure out now.”
Bull was excited and nodded to Foul Mouth.
“Bernie really can imitate all sorts of voices?”
Bull nodded vigorously.
“Bernie, try it.” Foul Mouth squatted down and tapped Bernie on the head with the hilt of his sword.
Lord Gregor had ordered that any citizen with special abilities was on the list for this conscription, whether you could steal, rob, pick locks, or cheat, whether you could fight, shoot arrows, or dig trenches, as long as you were one level higher, preferably with special abilities that no one else could match, then sorry, special talents, whether you were willing or not, would be enlisted without exception!
