The Mountain of Ice and Fire

#80 - uninvited guest

Lannisport, the largest city in the Westerlands, is also its largest trading hub. Many goods from Hoster Tully's Riverlands are imported through Lannisport, and many exported goods are loaded onto ships there.

The three major transportation arteries of the Westerlands—the River Road, the Gold Road, and the coastal Ocean Road—converge at Lannisport. From there, they merge into a single great road that leads north to Casterly Rock, the capital of the Westerlands. Consequently, the road exiting Casterly Rock through the Lion's Mouth gate is exceptionally wide, several times the width of other roads, allowing dozens of horses to ride abreast, a minor marvel in itself.

Clegane's lands are very close to Lannisport.

After Tywin Lannister granted Gregor Clegane new territories, Clegane's land became a long, narrow triangle, bordered by the Gold Road at the rear and close to the Ocean Road in front, making transportation very convenient. It was extremely easy to buy and sell goods in Lannisport.

Addam Lannister is the Lord of Lannisport, an Earl, and belongs to a branch of the Lannister family of Casterly Rock. He has a daughter named Rosamund Lannister, who bears a striking resemblance to Cersei's daughter, Myrcella Baratheon. Strangers might mistake the two girls for twins.

Addam Lannister's hair is yellowish, not the golden color of the Casterly Rock Lannisters, and it's straight, not naturally curly, which also distinguishes him from the main Lannister bloodline. However, his only daughter, Rosamund Lannister, has reverted to the ancestral traits in every way, whether it's the color of her hair, the color of her eyes, or the curly texture of her hair, all identical to the Lannisters of Casterly Rock.

Rosamund Lannister was born in the same year as Aegon VI, and is eight years old this year.

Early in the morning, the innocent and lovely Rosamund was swinging in the garden, chasing butterflies, singing, and throwing white pebbles into the garden stream. Gardeners were trimming the lawns and trees, and Rosamund was like a small, beautiful sprite, 'stirring up trouble' in the huge garden. Suddenly, she cried out in alarm. When the servants rushed over in a panic, they saw a humanoid behemoth standing in the garden: Gregor Clegane.

Rosamund was in Gregor Clegane's arms.

The servants all stopped, their hearts pounding like drums, none daring to speak. The maids had already covered their mouths, their eyes wide, their expressions shocked. They were all terrified.

Gregor was wearing a well-tailored, noble's formal attire. His suit of steel armor was gone, and he wasn't wearing his daunting, huge, flat-topped helmet, nor was he carrying his terrifying two-handed greatsword at his waist. He looked at Rosamund with a gentle expression, but even so, he still terrified the servants.

A servant secretly slipped away to report to the Earl.

"Rosamund, how would you like to be my adopted daughter?" Gregor lowered his voice.

But his voice was still as loud as a normal person's, and echoed with a booming resonance.

Rosamund didn't speak, her big eyes looking at Gregor with a watery gaze. Gregor's smile was very friendly, but her fear was still obvious.

"Are you afraid of me?" Gregor took out a piece of candy from his pocket.

However, the little girl put her hands behind her back, refusing.

"I'm a big bad guy, right? You must be thinking in your heart that I'm a big bad guy," Gregor smiled.

It seemed that the Mountain wasn't going to do anything terrible immediately, and the servants secretly breathed a sigh of relief. But still no one dared to step forward to take Rosamund back. The damned guards didn't know where they'd gone. The servants had no choice but to wait for the Earl to come in person.

Gregor put the candy into the small pocket embroidered with flowers on Rosamund's chest: "Rosamund, is your father here?"

Rosamund nodded, the fear in her big eyes diminishing somewhat.

"Good, we'll go find him. Can you show me the way?" Gregor's smile didn't look lovely, but at least it wasn't fierce.

Rosamund nodded again.

As Gregor took his first step, the sound of hurried footsteps came from the front of the garden and the main gate of the castle at the same time.

Two teams of guards appeared simultaneously from the front and back.

The captain of the guard was named Garna Lanny.

Surnames like Lanny, Lannys, and Lannister are all branches of the Lannister family, mostly distant relatives.

Garna Lanny clearly had completely yellow hair, the most common characteristic of distant Lannister relatives.

Gregor only glanced at Garna Lanny, and Garna Lanny stopped dead in his tracks.

Both teams of guards stopped at the same time, everyone's hand on their sword hilt, but their eyes filled with fear.

Throughout the Westerlands, apart from the garrison of Casterly Rock, the guards of Lannisport are the strongest and most well-trained. Even the gold cloaks of King's Landing, the capital of the Seven Kingdoms, and the guard corps of Oldtown, with its ancient history, cannot compare to the Lannisport guard. The Lannisport guard is so powerful mainly because of the Iron Islands not far from here. The Ironborn of the Iron Islands have repeatedly and blatantly plundered Lannisport, and attack the port and plunder goods as pirates at any time, which has forced Lannisport to build a strong naval fleet and an equally strong city guard.

Earl Addam's guard is the elite among the city guard, but in Gregor's eyes, these soldiers feared by the Ironborn and the centurions famous throughout the Seven Kingdoms are of no consequence.

"Lord Gregor…" Garna spoke, his eyes looking at Rosamund Lannister, revealing suppressed anxiety.

Gregor interrupted Garna's words: "Lead the way, I want to see Earl Addam."

Garna glanced at Rosamund again, and the little girl turned her head and said pitifully, "Uncle Garna, hold me."

"Lead the way," Gregor didn't give Garna Lanny any pleasantries.

"Yes, my Lord," Garna didn't dare to use force.

Garna's bronze face was hard, showing that he was a very strong man, but in front of Gregor, he was like a small hill in the hills meeting the peak of a true mountain, completely unable to display his aura and strength.

Garna led the way, his expression respectful.

Gregor's gaze immediately softened when he looked at Rosamund, filled with affection, but unfortunately, the little girl didn't appreciate it at all. But his skin was thick enough that he didn't feel embarrassed at all.

"Lord Gregor!" From afar, Earl Addam's cheerful voice carried over. He strode out, followed closely by a gray-robed maester, Bancroft.

"Earl Addam!" Gregor replied, not smiling.

His expression switched freely between gentle friendliness and cold cruelty.

"Rosamund, come down," Earl Addam scolded his beloved daughter, "How can you act spoiled in front of Ser Gregor? Lord Gregor is a guest. Maester Bancroft, take Rosamund to the maester's tower, it's time for her morning lessons."

"Yes, my Lord," the maester said.

Maester Bancroft walked up to Gregor: "My Lord, please give me Miss Rosamund, it's time for her morning lessons."

Gregor gently handed Rosamund to Maester Bancroft, and gave Rosamund a gentle and friendly smile, but Rosamund snorted and turned her head.

With her father and maester grandfather present, the little girl was much bolder.

Gregor laughed heartily.

Earl Addam remained inscrutable, reasonably and appropriately 'taking' Rosamund back from Gregor's hands.

"Lord Gregor, please come to the dining room, you are a guest, it's rare for you to come here, we must have a good drink today," Earl Addam smiled amiably, "Yesterday I already received a raven from Lord Tywin, in ten days, you will be holding a wedding with Miss Jeyne Westerling at Casterly Rock, congratulations."

Gregor didn't decline modestly, he said: "My Lord, give me a stool, I'll just sit at the gate."

Earl Addam was completely baffled, but it wasn't convenient for him to disobey. Gregor was heavily relied upon by Tywin, and it was said that this vicious dog had been somewhat abnormal due to drinking poppy milk for a long time, but his daughter was safe, and he only needed to be careful and vigilant.

"Someone," Earl Addam shouted, since Gregor was only willing to sit at the gate, then he would accompany him, "Fruits, wine, meat, snacks, long tables, benches, Arbor gold, chopsticks, cups, move everything to the gate."

"Yes, my Lord!" the servants responded in unison.
