4 – 2. The Tyrant (1)

1.

The Demon King has been resurrected.

The door to the demon world has opened, and demons are pouring out.

The world is entering a period of chaos.

Every now and then, demons would attack villages, and monsters that hadn’t been registered in the demon encyclopedia made their appearance. Moreover, those who swore allegiance to the Demon King became his minions and made the world even more cruel.

A new hero was needed.

More than half of the heroes who sealed the Demon King 100 years ago have left the world. Of the remaining five, two were too old to embark on an adventure.

Many powerful people in various fields set forth on adventures to defeat the Demon King.

However, not everyone had such intentions.

There were those who saw the crisis as a business opportunity. They formed mercenary groups and asked for a large sum as compensation for subduing the demons, or they demanded treasures or women that had been passed down in their family for generations.

The powerless people had no choice but to seek help from the powerful, even if it meant paying for their unfairness.

On the other hand, there were people who simply didn’t care.

They remained indifferent, no matter how the world turned.

They only used their power for their own benefit, as if to say ‘as long as I survive.’

The magician here was one of them.

-Crash!!

The demons trapped in the whirlwind were shredded apart.

Flesh and entrails mixed together, and bones crumbled to dust.

Soon, it was impossible to recognize their original forms, as they became like dead bodies.

“…”

The magician dusted off his hands.

The whirlwind disappeared.

The horse’s carcass, torn like death, poured down like rain.

The magician walked forward, drenched in the red rain.

“Oh, don’t come…!!”

Another magician, clad in a black robe, stepped back with a terrified look on his face.

His face was pale.

It was white with fear, not because it was a corpse.

He was an undead who swore allegiance to the Demon King.

Dead Man Summon

His staff flashed.

Dozens of arms sprouted up as a magical circle spread on the ground.

As if escaping from the gates of the underworld, the dead crawled into the world of the living.

The magician rolled his foot once.

Spell Destruction

The magical circle on the ground shattered like glass, scattering into pieces.

The corpses emerging from the underworld disappeared without even showing their faces.

“…I’ve been curious since a long time ago.”

The magician muttered in a low voice.

The cornered undead magician continued to use his magic. But every time he used his magic, the magical circle was destroyed.

The gap was less than a second.

…A monster.

It was strange for the undead magician to think this, but the magician standing before him was a monster.

Spell Destruction is a magic that nullifies a magic circle by working out a counter operation.

The process is very complicated.

It requires knowing the order in which the magical circle was drawn and accurately controlling the amount of mana.

The higher the hierarchy of magic, the more complicated the process becomes. Even from the intermediate fourth level magic, it is difficult to use in practice.

But this monster effortlessly broke the sixth-level magic.

With just one roll of his foot.

– Thud

The magician stood in front of the undead magician.

Through messy bangs, dull blue eyes stared down at Mine.

“Can undead be killed without divine magic?”

The sorcerer placed a hand on Mine’s head.

“How many times must one die if they are to die?”

Mana surged violently.

Mine’s body trembled.

Even though it was already a lifeless body, it felt the terror of death.

“Once, for now.”

Mana struck Mine’s head.

-Boom!!

An explosion occurred inside the head.

The skull opened and brain matter splattered in all directions.

Even the eyeballs popped out like frogs.

“aaah!!”

Mine screamed as they pushed the popped-out eyeballs back in.

“Undead really are sensitive….”

The sorcerer placed their hand inside Mine’s head and caused another explosion.

The head shattered into pieces.

However, the limbs still moved perfectly fine.

After a short wait, Mine’s body recovered.

Flesh grew back, and the head opened like a fruit.

“Second time.”

With a body that couldn’t die, Mine experienced death dozens of times.

Each time the head returned, it exploded again.

What felt like a blessing of the gods now felt like a curse.

There was no physical pain, but as a former human, the continuous explosions in the head caused great mental torment.

“Stop…! Please, stop…!”

Mine begged desperately.

“Why am I like this?”

The sorcerer plucked the flesh stuck between their fingers and placed their hand on Mine’s head once again.

“If you wanted to stop, you should have been stronger than me.”

“Uh, ugh…!”

“Blame your weakness.”

“Ughaaa…!!”

Unable to endure the psychological terror, Main forcibly tore up the contract he had made with the Demon King. The price was death.

“Tsk.”

Watching Main melt away like ice, the wizard Evan clicked his tongue.

2.

Cafra village, Adventurers’ Union.

Even though the world was in danger, the adventurers remained cheerful as ever. Gathered in the union, they drank and laughed boisterously from day till night.

However, the noisy atmosphere quieted down with the appearance of one man.

-Shuffling

A man dressed in a shabby robe.

Tangled, unkempt blond hair.

His eyes, visible between his bangs, were wilted with fatigue.

Adventurer, Evan.

In this area, he was known as a tyrant.

Anything that bothers him, he crushes.

No matter what it is.

He had fought numerous times in the village and was frequently in and out of the detention center as if it was his own home.

The other adventurers held their breath and lowered their eyes.

Evan was covered in blood from whatever he had done.

There was some flesh attached to the sleeve of his robe.

It was incredible that he had entered the village looking like that.

Perhaps even the guards were too scared to do anything and just let him pass.

Evan approached the receptionist.

-Thump

He put something down in front of the receptionist.

It was a human eyeball.

Upon seeing the eyeball, the receptionist let out a startled shriek.

“T-This is…?”

“Mine’s eyeball.”

“Excuse me…?”

“Check the corpse at the mansion.”

The adventurers began to buzz.

A few days ago, a Mine appeared in the forest near the village. The Mine slaughtered the family living in the forest and occupied the mansion they lived in. Then, it summoned all kinds of demonic beasts and released them into the forest.

They asked the Imperial Knights for help, as they didn’t know when the village would be attacked.

However, the Imperial Knights couldn’t spare any forces for the remote village because they were busy defending the frontlines against the demon world.

So, they offered a large sum of money to the Adventurers’ Union, asking them to take on the request.

Who would take on this dangerous quest?

The adventurers whispered among themselves because they knew how dangerous Mine was.

But Evan took the task and defeated the Mine.

He did it all by himself without even forming a party.

He accepted the request yesterday, and he completed it in just one day.

“Did you really defeat the Mine?”

The guide spoke in disbelief.

They knew that Evan was strong.

He easily solved any request.

But they didn’t expect him to catch Mine so easily.

“Yeah.”

Evan didn’t say much.

“Check the corpse, and put the reward on my adventurer card.”

After only reporting the completion of the request, Evan turned around.

On his way out, he took a bottle of liquor that the other adventurers were drinking.

No one could say anything.

If they tried to stop him, they’d have to be prepared to be hospitalized in the temple.

It was not the first time Evan had behaved like this.

-Clink-

A silver coin fell on the table.

Everyone decided to stay quiet, feeling annoyed but realizing that Evan paid his debts without fail.

Evan went to the inn, drinking cheap liquor.

His room was at the end of the hallway on the second floor.

Empty bottles rolling around on the floor.

There was an empty bottle on the bed as well.

Evan lay on the bed, puffing on a cigarette.

His body reeked of blood, but he didn’t care.

He stared at the wall with dull eyes.

Five years had passed since the painful breakup.

In those five years, Evan had grown tremendously.

He studied to become stronger, and every day was a series of battles.

He didn’t discriminate against his opponents.

He fought relentlessly, even if he became a tattered rag, destroying his body while learning magic. All magic aimed to destroy the enemy.

He killed and killed, again and again.

Alcohol and violence were the ultimate remedy for forgetting sorrow. Alcohol made his miserable spirit feel better, and in moments of violence, he could feel ecstasy without having to think about anything else.

How pathetic.

To still be like this after five years…

Not being able to forget that woman seemed like a curse.

Evan chuckled to himself.

Laughing like a madman, he drank alcohol and laughed like a madman again.

It wasn’t really because he was in a good mood.

His alcohol-soaked brain made him involuntarily laugh.

“Sigh…”

Heaving a sweet breath, Evan got up from the bed.

He’d already finished one bottle.

He needed another.

Evan staggered to his feet and left the room.

“eeek!”

Seeing Evan walking from the end of the hallway, a guest who had just left their room hurried back inside. It was no wonder, seeing a bloodstained man stumbling towards them.

-Clatter, clatter!

As Evan descended the stairs, he lost his footing and tumbled down.

People on the first floor eating their meal looked at Evan.

“Ha ha ha!”

Evan lay on the floor, laughing uproariously.

“I fell flat on my face, flat!”

He laughed, hitting the floor with his hand.

His aching body also made Evan giggle.

His life had become colorless.
