The Second Empire of Azeroth

#111 - Death of Magtheridon

The city of Shattrath echoed with the clamor of alarm bells, and everyone sprang into action. Soldiers manned the defenses, ordinary citizens helped transport supplies, and Dallas stood upon the city walls, directing the battle.

Holy light surged around Dallas, a clear indication that he had become a powerful paladin.

As the only faith of humanity, the Holy Light was something Dallas had always adhered to, even though he wasn't a cleric. Previously, he had been occupied with governing the nation and waging war, so Dallas hadn't had the opportunity to delve deeply into the study of the Holy Light. However, after arriving in Shattrath, Dallas had very little to do, so he frequently listened to the teachings of Velen and A'dal, thus embarking on the path of a paladin.

The devout Dallas rarely left Shattrath, and even when the Alliance had matters to attend to, he would dispatch a deputy. The people of the Draenor Alliance had almost forgotten about Dallas, a high-ranking official, and no one had expected that Dallas now possessed strength comparable to Turalyon.

As a battle-hardened general, Dallas was not intimidated by the demons' offensive. He methodically directed the troops, repelling the demons' attacks time and again. Even when some flying demons managed to reach the city walls, Dallas led soldiers to drive them back down.

The vanguard's setback did not surprise Magtheridon. He didn't expect the vanguard to capture Shattrath; he merely wanted them to confirm one thing: Shattrath did not possess Apexis cannons.

Ever since being attacked by the Demonbane, Magtheridon had suffered from Apexis cannon syndrome. With his strength, he could withstand the attacks of Apexis cannons without any problem. However, the Apexis cannons had left a huge shadow in his mind. At that time, Roger was on the Demonbane, leading him to mistakenly believe that the aura of a teleportation-level demon bane on Roger's body was emitted by the Apexis cannons, causing him to fear them.

Now that he had confirmed that Shattrath was not equipped with Apexis cannons, Magtheridon's confidence surged.

He personally commanded the army to launch a full-scale attack on Shattrath, with powerful Doomguards leading the charge and Eredar sorcerers summoning hellfire.

"Dallas, we can't hold on much longer!" a Draenei guard captain shouted loudly.

Dallas also frowned, having noticed this situation long ago. However, the number of troops he could command was too small. When Velen left, he took most of the Draenei army with him. And when the Alliance was formed, Turalyon also took away many human troops. With the forces he had at hand, he could only defend Shattrath. Once casualties occurred, defensive gaps would inevitably appear.

If Shattrath were equipped with Apexis cannons, that would be great, but unfortunately, the ownership of the Apexis cannons belonged to the Arakkoa and Roger. If the Draenei wanted Apexis cannons, they would have to pay a certain price. And relying on their possession of the Naaru, the Draenei were not enthusiastic about Apexis cannons.

Now, the Draenei were tasting the bitterness.

Fortunately, A'dal appeared in time, floating above the high tower and radiating powerful holy light. Under the shroud of holy light, the defending soldiers were blessed with Blessing of Kings and Devotion Aura. With increased strength, the defending soldiers' courage doubled, unleashing astonishing combat power.

Magtheridon sneered, "It's just a dying struggle!"

He raised his spear and launched a fel cannon at A'dal. A'dal quickly used a holy light shield to block the fel cannon, but Magtheridon's attack did not stop; instead, he launched an even more powerful offensive!

"Boom boom boom—"

The continuous fel cannons shook A'dal's holy light shield, and A'dal trembled. Maintaining the blessings on the defending soldiers while also maintaining the holy light shield gradually depleted the holy light within him.

However, at this moment, if he were to give up blessing the defending soldiers, Shattrath would inevitably fall. Therefore, A'dal chose to sacrifice himself.

"Crack!"

The holy light shield shattered like glass, and the fel cannon struck A'dal's body, knocking him from the sky and onto the platform of the high tower.

Dallas rushed over, seeing the holy light on A'dal's body beginning to transform into shadow. He quickly transferred the holy light from his body into A'dal's, stopping A'dal's entropy. However, without Dallas's command, the deployment of the defending soldiers went awry, and the demons quickly broke through the defenses.

Only one could be saved between Shattrath and A'dal.

A'dal urged, "Dallas, go and command the defense of the city."

Dallas shook his head, saying, "Lord A'dal, if Shattrath is breached, we can rebuild it, but if we lose you, we will lose direction!"

The soldiers immediately went to deliver the order.

Seeing the defending soldiers retreat, Magtheridon was filled with complacency: "Hoo hoo hoo—no one can stop my advance! Invade the city, spare no enemies!"

The demons chased the defending soldiers into the city, and the war entered the stage of street fighting.

Magtheridon strode towards Shattrath, his body as tall as the city walls. Then, he swung his spear, smashing the city walls, and as he passed through the collapsed gap, his wings destroyed the sentry towers on the city walls.

Immersed in slaughter and destruction, the demons completely failed to notice an elf standing on the trees outside Shattrath.

Thas'alah took out the communication crystal, "Your Excellency, I am one step late. Magtheridon has already invaded Shattrath."

As soon as he finished speaking, Roger teleported to his side.

"Your Excellency, if the demons capture Shattrath, they will enter the Black Temple through the portal," Thas'alah said anxiously.

Roger waved his hand, "I know."

After speaking, his figure disappeared, reappearing on the high tower of Shattrath. Looking down, he found Magtheridon's position, and Roger waved the Scepter of Sargeras, a series of magic explosions erupting on the buildings around Magtheridon, forming a smoke that engulfed Magtheridon.

Magtheridon was a little panicked, this change clearly not within his expectations.

Just then, he suddenly felt a murderous intent coming from above.

He suddenly raised his head, only to see a person descending from the sky with a weapon, slashing down at him.

Damn it! It was that Rogers?

He hurriedly raised his spear above his head, trying to block Roger's attack.

Roger sneered, activating Flame Body and Flame Blade, his whole body wrapped in flames. With a roar, he activated Endless Fury, and then used all his strength to slash down with the Demonbane Sword.

"Crack!"

The spear was split in half, and the Demonbane Sword continued to slash onto Magtheridon's head.

The flames penetrated Magtheridon's brain, impacting the fel fire inside. Magtheridon roared, suddenly erupting a large amount of fel fire, impacting all around.

"Boom—"

In a loud noise, Magtheridon was blown to pieces. The fog of the explosion dissipated, leaving only a huge skeleton to prove Magtheridon's existence.
