#120 - Angels should live in heaven

Backstage at the circus, in the dressing room.

Lin Jue helped Liao Fan onto the sofa, but to his surprise, the child had fallen asleep while they were talking.

He asked the host for a blanket and gently placed it over Liao Fan, then sat down beside him.

Chen Fu and the others sat on the opposite sofa, the New World person still unconscious, their hands tightly tied to the doorknob.

Because the arena outside was too bloody and unsuitable for conversation, the host had invited Lin Jue and his group backstage.

The host's surname was Wang, and he was also the head of the circus; the people in the troupe called him Brother Wang.

Brother Wang poured a glass of water for each of Lin Jue's group, and looked at the clown sitting in the distance. The clown was holding a phone, happily watching anime, seemingly having forgotten what had happened earlier.

"You want to ask about him, right?" Brother Wang sighed softly, taking the initiative to start the conversation.

Lin Jue nodded and asked first, "Does he have Angelman syndrome?"

"That's right. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have known that such a disease existed in the world."

Brother Wang held his teacup and blew on the hot air, his gaze lost in reminiscence as he slowly began to tell the story of the clown.

The clown's surname was Sun, his given name Jiankang, and he was the son of the owner of this amusement park.

The owner used to be a somewhat famous businessman who had a son late in life at the age of forty, but his wife died in childbirth due to physical reasons.

This made the owner grief-stricken, and he wanted to go with his wife, but looking at his son in swaddling clothes, giggling at him, he couldn't bring himself to do it. He could only give all his love for his wife to his son, doing his best to raise the child.

Before Sun Jiankang was one year old, he behaved similarly to other children, able to eat, sleep, and poop. He would cry when hungry and laugh when happy, but after the age of one, the owner discovered that his child was a little strange.

During regular checkups, Sun Jiankang's bone and muscle development was significantly lower than that of children of the same age, and he was also very slow to respond to sounds. Even if someone called his name, he wouldn't react.

At the age of two, Sun Jiankang was diagnosed with Angelman syndrome, also known as happy puppet syndrome.

This news was like a bolt from the blue for the owner, who had just lost his wife. He never thought that his only son would not be a normal person.

But he didn't give up on Sun Jiankang. Instead, he gave up his career and spent all his manpower and money taking his son to doctors everywhere, trying all kinds of medical treatments and even folk remedies, but with little effect.

Fortunately, as time went on, Sun Jiankang grew up day by day, and the disease seemed to be alleviated. Although his intelligence was still not as good as that of his peers, he began to learn to do things independently, and he also went to school normally.

Moreover, he no longer just giggled foolishly. He would also throw himself into his father's arms and cry because someone at school laughed at him.

Days passed, and Sun Jiankang finished his compulsory education and dropped out of school due to his intelligence. On the day he came of age, the owner sold all his property and built the first amusement park in Sanjiang City as a coming-of-age gift for his child.

The owner said that since his son couldn't be as healthy as his peers, he would be a forever innocent and happy child, living carefree in the park built by his father for the rest of his life.

So the owner named this amusement park Happy Paradise, because angels should live in paradise.

The words on the sign were also written by Sun Jiankang himself.

"No wonder this park has such a name, and the sign looks like a child's graffiti. It turns out there's such a story behind it."

Lin Jue reached out and smoothed Liao Fan's furrowed brow. The child must have had a nightmare.

He looked at Sun Jiankang, who was curled up on the sofa in the distance watching his phone, and asked, "Did something else happen later? After all, his condition doesn't seem to be getting better, but worse."

Brother Wang took a sip of hot water and sighed deeply, "Yes, his father died of a sudden heart attack a few years ago."

"Because his father took great care of our circus when he was alive, I brought Sun Jiankang into the circus and gave him the role of a clown."

"He liked this role very much, because not only was he happy, but he could also make the audience happy. At that time, his story was even reported in the newspaper, attracting many viewers."

"But the heat will eventually pass. Later, the new park in the suburbs began construction, and fewer and fewer people came here. Fewer people meant less funding, and less funding meant no new facilities. It was a vicious cycle. Gradually, no one came to see the clown's performance."

"At that time, Jiankang was often depressed, but this was also a good thing for him, indicating that his condition had indeed improved a lot."

The turning point should be coming.

Lin Jue's heart stirred, and he exchanged a glance with Chen Fu, quietly waiting for the other party to continue.

"But, a fog changed everything." Brother Wang continued, "After that fog, Jiankang's condition became worse and worse, just like what you see now, and that strange ability also appeared at that time."

The strange ability suddenly appeared after a fog?

Lin Jue thought of Bi Zheng. Bi Zheng didn't have those abilities at first either; they also appeared suddenly.

The point at which these abilities appeared should be after the fog zone was locked, but why did the abilities suddenly appear? Were they given by some kind of power?

Lin Jue felt as if something was choosing the Children of the Mist, bestowing abilities upon them and using those abilities as markers, waiting for the Children of the Mist to die, transforming into keys to open the lock of the fog zone.

When he saw Bi Zheng die at the time, he had a ridiculous idea that a force was secretly controlling everything. Now that he knew about Sun Jiankang's story, this feeling became even stronger.

"Destiny…"

Lin Jue silently chewed on these two words in his heart, but now there were too few clues, and he couldn't deduce any valuable information at all.

Later, he would wake up that New World guy and see if he could get more useful information from him.

Lin Jue looked at the bound guy, who seemed to be waking up and was coughing softly.

But the coughing quickly turned into retching. The man opened his mouth wide, his face flushed, his eyeballs bulging, as if something was about to crawl out of his throat.

"Something's wrong!" Lin Jue quickly stood up and rushed towards the man with Chen Fu, one in front of the other.

"Wah!"

A mass of scarlet blood threads crawled out of the man's throat and then stabbed fiercely into his temple.

Fresh blood immediately splattered on the snow-white wall, forming a blooming blood plum blossom.

Then, the blood threads scattered, attacking everyone in the room.

Flames rose, and blood threads fell like rain. Lin Jue waved his hand and retracted all the flames, staring at the man's corpse with a solemn gaze.

There were blood threads last time, and there were blood threads this time too. That guy named Zu, although he seemed extremely crazy, was more meticulous than imagined. The bodies of those underlings might all have hidden blood threads, which could catch the enemy off guard when they relaxed their vigilance.

"Didn't those guys before have this thing in their bodies?" Lin Jue picked up a still wriggling blood thread from the ground and looked at Chen Fu.

Chen Fu's expression was also not good. He finally caught a live one, but he died like this.

"How would I know? Even if they did, they must have been blown up with those people. Why don't you go look for them."

Okay, fine…

Lin Jue immediately shut up. With Chen Fu's lethality, even Zu was no match, these blood threads probably didn't even have a chance to sneak attack, and were corroded and shattered along with the bodies of those people.
