#26 - Medical Practice Guidelines

Lin Jue grabbed a corner of his white coat and wiped the blood off his knife.

At his feet, the male ghost had become withered and decayed, his mouth wide open, seemingly unable to believe that he had been so easily killed by a fruit knife.

His corpse was covered in knife marks, and the exposed flesh was charred by flames.

Another ghost taken care of.

Lin Jue turned to look at the black mist floating in the air and began to walk, the black mist acting like a guiding thread, leading him to where the ghost was.

Finally, he stopped at the fire exit.

The source of the black mist was on the second basement level.

At the entrance to the passage, he saw a corpse wearing a security guard uniform, its head missing like the previous bodies, and its hands also gone without a trace.

This should be Old Wang, the one the security guard mentioned.

"The head is gone again. That flying head ghost must be taking advantage of the chaos to harvest heads here, secretly increasing its strength."

Lin Jue bypassed the corpse and walked down the stairs to the second basement level.

The entire parking lot was eerily quiet. The crisp sound of leather shoes echoed in the empty stairwell. There were also scattered drops of blood on the stairs, extending to the second basement level. Taking the last step, Lin Jue stood at the entrance of the second basement level.

The rancid smell in the air grew stronger.

He looked at the bloodstains on the ground. The path the bloodstains followed was exactly the same as the direction the black mist was coming from.

"I don't even need to rely on the black mist anymore. These bloodstains are the guide."

"The male ghost tore off the arms of those corpses. It should have taken those arms to the second basement level."

"Did this guy bring the arms to the wall-hitting ghost? Why? To please it or to feed it? Do ghosts help each other?"

The path of bloodstains extended all the way to the restroom on the second basement level.

The restroom was even darker than the parking lot. Looking in from the entrance, there wasn't a single ray of light. It was like an abyss, making people afraid to approach.

The black mist was the thickest here, but Lin Jue estimated that with his current strength, he should be able to easily deal with it.

He didn't know what level his strength could be considered now, but killing E-level ghosts was quite easy.

He plunged into the restroom.

The restroom was divided into cubicles, each with its door closed, and the black mist was constantly seeping out from the crack in the door of the last cubicle.

He could faintly hear chewing sounds, as if someone was hiding in the restroom and secretly eating something.

Lin Jue walked to the outside of the last cubicle and knocked on the door: "Hello, is anyone in there?"

There was no response, but the chewing stopped.

"I heard from your friend that you have a strange illness. I'm a doctor, and I'm here to help you." Lin Jue stood outside the door, trying to make his voice sound calm: "If you don't answer me, I'll just open the door."

As soon as he finished speaking, he yanked the door open.

Inside the narrow cubicle, a disheveled woman was squatting with her back to him, her floral dress stained with mottled blood, and several sections of arms were lying next to the woman.

These arms clearly came from those corpses, and they were covered in bite marks, as if they had been gnawed on by some wild beast.

The woman slowly turned her head. Beneath her messy black hair was a pale face, and she was biting on a severed finger in her mouth.

On her upper and lower lips, one could see rows of needle holes, as if her mouth had been sewn shut before she died.

Most horrifying of all, the woman's eyes were filled with densely packed pupils, with not a trace of white visible.

"This woman's black mist is a little denser than the male ghost's, but it's still within an acceptable range."

Lin Jue thought to himself, putting his left hand in his pocket, ignoring the terrifying scene, his tone unchanged from beginning to end: "Indeed, as your friend said, your problem is quite serious."

The woman looked at Lin Jue, a dangerous glint flashing in her eyes.

"It's about your friend with the severed hand. I healed him. Now he no longer has to feel anxious about his severed hand."

Lin Jue slowly opened his mouth: "Your illness should be pica. Eating this raw meat is full of bacteria and parasites. If you want to eat it, it's best to cook it first."

As he spoke, he reached out and took the severed finger that the woman was biting out of her mouth, his eyes gentle: "Don't torture yourself anymore. Tell me what caused you to contract this disease? I'll prescribe the right medicine."

The female ghost's lips parted slightly. She didn't expect that a person dressed as a doctor would come over and say that he wanted to help her, and it sounded like this doctor had also cured that "friend."

But she always felt that something was strange, but she couldn't say what it was.

She looked at the doctor in front of her. He was gentle and refined, and his attitude was docile. The way he looked at her was not at all abnormal, unlike the horrified and fearful eyes that humans had when they saw ghosts. Instead, he really treated her like a patient.

At this moment, the female ghost's dead heart seemed to beat once again.

She broke off a severed finger from a severed arm and wrote a sentence on the restroom partition like a pen, the blood forming the strokes of each word.

【Aren't you afraid of me?】

Another mute ghost?

And what's with these ghosts? Why do they all ask other people if they're afraid?

"I'm a doctor. Everyone is treated equally in my eyes. As long as you're sick, you're my patient."

Lin Jue squatted down, his tone making people feel like they were basking in the spring breeze: "There are only eight words in my medical code of conduct."

"Patients come first, and doctors have compassion."

"My goal is to cure you."

The female ghost's eyes lit up as she heard this. She had never met such a warm person when she was still human. She never expected to meet one after becoming a ghost.

She picked up the severed finger and wrote on the partition again.

The bloody words pieced together a disjointed sentence.

【Rainy night, raincoat, man, he sewed up my mouth】

Images instantly flashed in Lin Jue's mind. On a rainy night, this woman was targeted by a man wearing a raincoat. He followed the woman home, tied her up, sewed up her mouth, and then brutally murdered her.

Another rainy night, another murder.

The male ghost also died on a rainy night, and this female ghost also died on a rainy night. Is it really such a coincidence?

However, one had his hands sawed off and his face cut, and the other had her mouth sewn shut. If the murderer is the same person, what other meaning could this behavior have?

"Hmm..." Lin Jue seemed to be thinking: "Did you develop pica because your mouth was sewn shut? It's a little difficult to treat this situation with medication."

The female ghost looked at Lin Jue, who was lost in thought. The emotional fluctuations in her eyes disappeared, her gaze was cold, and black blood began to drip between her fingers.

Lin Jue was oblivious to all of this and continued to speak to himself: "Medication won't be of much use."

"My suggestion is to go straight to surgery!"

As soon as he finished speaking, he suddenly pulled out his left hand, which had been hidden in his pocket. The fruit knife burned with flames, cutting off the palm that the female ghost had secretly grabbed.

He didn't think that a few words of his could make the ghost repent. The female ghost was just waiting for an opportunity to attack, and so was he.

"Ah!"

The female ghost's eyes widened, every pupil trembling, and she let out a piercing scream.

Lin Jue only felt as if his head had been hit by a sledgehammer, and he suddenly became dizzy.

Mental attack!

Having experienced the ghost wall, he was prepared. At the same time as he chose to attack, he bit the tip of his tongue.

Biting the tip of his tongue hard, the intense pain invigorated his spirit. He moved forward, grabbing the female ghost's neck with his right hand and pinning her against the wall.

Holding the knife in his left hand, he stabbed it down again and again. Black blood splattered, staining his white coat with a lot of ink.

The female ghost opened her mouth and wanted to scream again, but the hand pinching her neck was like a pair of iron pliers. Even though ghosts didn't need to breathe, she still felt a sense of suffocation and couldn't make a sound.

The last knife landed on her heart. Lin Jue didn't stop until the female ghost completely stopped struggling.

He shook the blood off the knife, took off his glasses covered in black blood, and remained expressionless.

Another one taken care of.
