This Actor Is Full Of Tricks

#40 - There are people in the air in the woods

Because the exploration of the Lock Dragon Mountain tunnel was scheduled for 9 PM, everyone had free time during the afternoon.

Perhaps it was because of the bronze dagger incident, Chen Fugui and his wife, along with Jiajia, were hesitant to talk to Lin Jue. Qiao Kang hid in the study editing videos, and He Pingge was nowhere to be found.

Seeing that no one could be tricked into revealing information, Lin Jue decided to wander around the villa on his own.

On a wall in the living room, he noticed traces of fresh paint, with a slight color difference compared to the surrounding walls.

Getting closer, he could smell the pungent odor of cheap paint, clearly an inexpensive product.

This obviously didn't match the villa's expensive decor. Even for touch-ups, they wouldn't likely use such cheap paint.

This suggested that it wasn't the homeowner who had painted, but someone else.

"Is it to cover something up? Blood? Or mold from dampness?"

Lin Jue touched the wall, then walked out of the villa alone, wandering around the neighborhood.

The neighborhood felt like a forgotten corner, eerily quiet. Lin Jue walked to the entrance and saw a large truck pull up.

Several men wearing "Moving Company" uniforms got out of the truck. One of them saw Lin Jue, smiled, and approached him, offering a cigarette: "Young man, are you moving?"

"No, no," Lin Jue waved his hand, refusing the cigarette, and asked, "Is someone here moving?"

"Yes, this is actually our third time handling a move in this neighborhood," the man said, taking back the cigarette and lighting it himself. "And each time, they're in a big hurry to move."

"Do you live here too, young man?"

"No, I'm visiting a friend.", Lin Jue shook his head.

"Young man, I advise you not to stay here too long," the man said in a low voice. "I heard from the people who moved away before that this place isn't clean, there are things in the mist."

Strange things?

Lin Jue looked around. His True Sight Eyes didn't detect any dark energy.

"What did those people say?" Lin Jue asked quietly, his face full of gossip and curiosity.

"I don't know the specifics, I only heard a word or two. Those people were very evasive and didn't say much."

The man took a puff of his cigarette and pulled out a business card. "You can tell your friend that if he wants to move, he can contact us."

"No problem," Lin Jue said, smiling as he took the card.

At the same time, a man's voice called out from behind him: "Movers, here, here!"

"Coming, coming," the man replied loudly, putting out his cigarette and running over to his colleagues.

Lin Jue turned around and saw a middle-aged man standing outside a villa not far from Qiao Kang's house.

Behind him was a pale-faced woman holding a little girl who looked to be about two years old.

While the movers were inside packing furniture, Lin Jue hurried over and stopped the middle-aged man as he was about to go home: "Brother, brother, wait a minute!"

The middle-aged man stopped and turned his head, looking at Lin Jue warily: "What is it?"

"Brother, it's just that my parents want to buy me a house. I happened to see you moving, and I wanted to ask if you're selling this house?" Lin Jue asked with an enthusiastic smile.

He didn't really want to buy the house, but rather to get information from the middle-aged man.

There must be a reason for moving. Considering what the movers said earlier, this middle-aged man might have seen something strange here.

Li Ge's character seemed like a very cheerful person, and coupled with his harmless smile, it reduced the middle-aged man's guard, but his tone was still stiff: "Not selling."

"I wouldn't dare sell it to you, I advise you not to buy a house in this neighborhood."

As soon as he said this, Lin Jue knew he had found the right person. This middle-aged man definitely knew something!

He put on a perfectly puzzled expression: "Why? Brother, are you just going to leave the house empty? That's going to cost a lot of money!"

"I heard the movers say that a lot of people have moved away from here. Why are you moving away, brother? I think this neighborhood is pretty good, except that it's a bit deserted."

His words seemed to hit a sore spot with the middle-aged man. The other man's face suddenly turned very ugly, and after taking a deep breath, he said: "Young man, I'm just being kind to you because you seem like a good person, so I'll say a few more words."

"There are strange things here. I don't want to harm you, so I don't dare sell the house to you."

"Strange things?" Lin Jue pretended to be startled and looked around, his voice panicked: "Brother, isn't it said that strange things kill people on sight? There are so many of us here, why hasn't it appeared?"

"Would I lie to you?" The middle-aged man was a little impatient. "Although I haven't seen it, my family has."

He looked back at the house, and only after seeing his wife take the child back to the room did he continue: "A few days ago, I was on a business trip out of town when my wife suddenly called me and said our daughter was missing."

"I was about to book a plane ticket to come back, but less than ten minutes later, my wife called me again and said she had found our daughter, in the woods behind the neighborhood."

Lin Jue looked towards the woods behind the villa area.

It was an upward slope with lush foliage, blocking most of the sunlight, A gust of mountain wind blew, the leaves rustled, causing the shadows to sway, as if something was hidden inside.

From the outside, it looked normal. At least Lin Jue didn't find any dark energy.

"My wife said on the phone that our daughter kept crying, saying there were people in the air in the woods."

"That's not exactly what my child said, but it was close to that meaning,"

The middle-aged man shuddered as he said this, shrinking his neck and constantly turning his head to look at the woods behind him, as if something was about to crawl out of the woods and grab him.

"People in the air?" A child's description is always whimsical. Lin Jue speculated that the strange thing was probably standing in the trees at the time.

Or rather…

It was hanging in the trees.

"I felt something was wrong at the time, so I gave up my business trip and rushed back."

"When I got back, my daughter hugged me and cried, constantly saying 'Daddy scared, dark, dark'."

The middle-aged man's expression was fearful and distressed: "Since then, I've always felt that there were more things in the neighborhood, so I quickly moved away, while it's still relatively safe here."

"Young man, don't stay here any longer."

After saying that, he went straight back into the house.

Daddy scared, dark, dark…

What did the child mean by 'dark'?

Was the environment in the woods very dark? Or was it referring to the thing she saw being dark?

Lin Jue walked out of the neighborhood and towards the woods behind it.

As soon as he entered the woods, the temperature dropped sharply. He got goosebumps all over his arms. This place was shady all year round, very eerie.

Most of the trees in the woods were banyan trees, with roots hanging down from the branches, intertwined together. In the dark environment, they did look like figures hanging from the tree trunks at first glance.

"Could it be that the little girl saw these roots?" Lin Jue lifted a cluster of hanging roots and looked up at the tree canopy.

There was nothing unusual. Everything around was normal.

Perhaps the child really did see wrong, and besides, a two-year-old child can't accurately express what they see.
