Traveling through the game world, starting out as a third-rate villain
Chapter 22: Wild Wind Wolf
I followed them and entered the dungeon, motioning to the instructor supervising us. He nodded, but I could see a wry smile on his face.
Once I passed through the gate, I found myself in a vast natural field, surrounded by tall trees that seemed to stretch endlessly to the sky. The air was filled with the fragrance of earth and leaves, and the sound of birdsong in the distance added to the atmosphere.
This was my second time battling a monster, but it felt weird to see it like this in real life.
The fields were bathed in warm sunlight, casting dappled shadows across the ground. It was a peaceful and tranquil environment, but I knew better than to let my guard down. This was still a dungeon, and danger lurked behind the beautiful nature.
Even though the monsters here were created by the academy, it doesn't mean they are weak.
'bite'
Just then, a ringing sound came into my ears.
'It must be the coordinates,' I thought, checking my smartwatch for confirmation.
"Here are the coordinates," Irina said, looking at her smartwatch.
"The monster we are going to hunt is a level 3 creature called the Gale Wolf," Irina announced, her voice filled with excitement.
"Its coordinates are in the center of the forest, let's go," Irina continued, pointing in the direction we needed to go.
With a proud tone, she headed towards the coordinates.
'Whoosh'
She immediately lunged forward and began to run, with the others following her lead.
"George, you come to hold back the Storm Wolf, and Nora will be responsible for restricting its movements. The Storm Wolf is a pack monster, and they are likely to call for reinforcements. If it summons other wolf packs, it will be more advantageous for us. I can deal with the wolf pack."
They were talking as they walked towards the coordinates, but their speed was so fast that it was difficult for me to catch up. Soon the distance between us was widened and I could no longer hear what they were saying.
"Wild Wind Wolf, huh?"
This is a monster I know in the game. A wolf that evolves with the advent of mana and gains wind attributes. It is a level 3 monster.
It's not that hard to deal with according to the monster level. A level 3 monster means that a person with a level 3 average physique can defeat it in a single fight, in theory...
But in most cases, it is not recommended to fight monsters of the same level alone.
It is especially dangerous when the monsters live in groups.
"In the game, they are called Little Wind Wolves, and are second-tier monsters."
These wolves were one of the most troublesome monster types I remember in the game. They were fast, agile, and came in packs, making them difficult to deal with unless you had crowd control skills.
Regardless, I should at least see how they fight. I might learn something from them. I don't want to be disciplined, after all.
With this thought in mind, I continued running at a steady pace.
As I ran through the vast woodland, I kept my eyes open for any sign of them, while also watching for small signs that would give me an idea of the monster's numbers.
The ground was covered with soft soil and fallen leaves, but I could still make out faint traces of footprints that led in a specific direction. From the depth of the footprints and the subtle differences between the claws, I could tell there were at least ten wolves of different sizes and a boss.
This is their territory. Before long, I came to an area full of trees with some marks on them, indicating that this was the monster's lair.
Following the footprints, I quickened my pace, afraid to lose them. I kept my senses sharp, listening for any sound that might indicate their location. The forest was filled with the sounds of birdsong and rustling leaves, but I focused on filtering out the noise.
As I continued along the trail, the sounds of distant battle gradually reached my ears. The air was filled with the faint sounds of metal clanging, wolves growling, and the whistling of wind. As the pressure of the battle began to settle over me, I knew I was getting closer.
'Bang, bang, bang'
I looked at the traces of fighting around me, replaying the battle scenes in my mind.
Nora was the first to attack, and she must have used the sprint skill. The deep pit under her feet proved this.
George must have followed closely behind. He blocked the subsequent attack of the Wind Wolf, and while all this was happening, Irina must have been waiting for the wolf to call for help.
I concentrated my attention and activated the skill [Sharp Eyes]. My vision became clearer, and I could detect even the slightest traces from a distance.
Through the dense leaves, I found a blur of red hair, and I knew it was Irina. She moved incredibly fast, and her dodges and attacks were very accurate.
"Sure enough...with her personality, she would think the wolf couldn't sense her, so she attacked first." I thought to myself.
Since the trees showed signs of burning, Irina obviously couldn't hold back and launched the attack, which is consistent with her character.
Nora was beside her, her swordplay graceful and powerful, while George held his ground, protecting the others with his great axe.
In the chaos of the battle, I caught a glimpse of the Storm Wolf. It looked like an imposing creature, but I know a lot of imposing people in games. The Mist Ghost alone was ten times stronger than him, even though he was very weak at the time.
Nevertheless, the wolf's silver fur gleamed in the sun, and its movements were agile, and its large, bright yellow eyes stared fiercely at the three men.
The little wind wolves surrounded their leader, roaring and pouncing at every opportunity. Irina, Nora, and George fought back mercilessly. Their teamwork was not very harmonious, but at least they tried to coordinate their attack and defense.
'Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh'
Nora swung her sword at an extremely fast speed to block the attacks of the two little wind wolves.
'call out'
Then, with great speed, her sword pierced through the wolves, splitting them in half.
Watching how she wielded the sword, I began to take notes on how she infused her mana into the sword.
Her physique shouldn't be that vulnerable to the Little Wind Wolf, but the sword still cuts quickly. This is because of the way she mobilizes her mana while moving. This must be related to her swordsmanship.
I watched her movements, trying to understand the essence behind them.
"Hmm... this seems like a better way to use mana." I thought to myself. It's a little hard to put it into words, but thanks to my characteristic [Insight Perception] which allows me to understand the essence of what I see more quickly, I unknowingly figured out a way to improve the mana infusion on the dagger.
"As expected, it was successful."
While it worked, I'm still a newbie so it didn't add much.
"Anyway, Nora and George will deal with the Little Wind Wolf, I'd better watch the main battle." I thought and turned my attention to Irina.
"Boom!"
Irina's battle with the Wild Wind Wolf was fierce. Moving at an incredible speed, her flaming red hair fluttering like wild hellfire, she dodged the wolf's attacks and counterattacked with precise strikes.
She smiled from ear to ear as she launched a fire attack at the wolf. Thanks to her reinforced boots, she was much faster than a normal mage.
“Now look at this!”
She unleashed bursts of fiery mana that scorched the air, leaving trails of flame. The wolf tried to counter her attacks with wind abilities, but Irina's increased agility allowed her to dodge them effortlessly.
Her control over mana is incredibly perfect, almost reaching the level of a professional hunter, and she is only a freshman. This alone shows how great her potential is.
Their fight became more intense, and I could see from Irina's eyes the excitement she felt when facing a powerful monster. Although the monster was ferocious and powerful, she did not show any fear or hesitation.
"Boom!"
With lightning speed, she leaped forward and delivered a series of precise punches, each one infused with fiery mana. The wolf tried to fight back, but Irina was too fast and too elusive, frustrating and confusing the monster.
"You have to be faster!" she laughed, her eyes gleaming with excitement. The Storm Wolf growled in response, but was no match for Irina's relentless attack.
But at that moment, a chill came over me...
