Chapter 41 Choosing a Club to Join
So a week went by and I did almost nothing except training. Because there was nothing I could do at the moment and my strength was still insufficient, I had to make sure I trained enough.
Today also marks the end of my use of the training potion. Since its effects only reach their peak within two weeks, the benefits of continuing to use it outweigh the risks. Therefore, I can only stop here.
"Hoo...Hoo..." I gasped for breath on the training ground of the academy. I had just finished a round of physical training, and now I was in pain all over because I pushed my body to its limit.
"My strength has indeed increased. It seems that the 'Life Essence' is working."
By raising the upper limit of my physical attributes, I was finally able to increase my strength and physique.
"Status." I muttered to myself in my mind, and then a panel appeared.
————
— Attributes:
Strength: 1.6 → 1.7
Agility: 2.2 → 2.3
Constitution: 1.5 → 1.6
Perception: 2.3 → 2.4
Magic Power: 2.6
Mana Capacity: 1.8
————
As shown on the panel, my attributes have improved a lot. This is the result of rigorous training and the effect of 'Life Essence'.
In addition to increasing my talent cap, it also made the attribute upgrade process smoother, which meant I was able to adapt to my new powers faster and integrate them into my training better.
"Hey, can we talk?"
Just as I was about to leave the training ground, suddenly, a familiar voice came from behind me. I had sensed his presence, but I thought he had no intention of looking for me.
I looked back and saw those sharp brown eyes staring at me. His wavy blue hair was soaked with sweat, and it was obvious that he was training here too.
He slung his spear over his back and looked at me sternly.
It's Ethan, the protagonist of the game.
Seeing him like this, it was obvious why he came to me. It was because of the recent incident in the close combat course.
"I think what you did back then was wrong." He said, staring at me intently, his eyes so bright that they made me feel a little disgusted.
This guy is still living in the beautiful world he imagined.
"You should respect her choice. She cried in the end. Are you satisfied with this result?" Ethan asked me with concern in his eyes.
In a sense, he was not wrong, and what he said was clearly a more humane way of dealing with the situation.
"Can't you just slightly..."
But that doesn't mean I need to be lectured to.
"Don't talk to me." I interrupted him. I don't believe that respect and gentleness alone can survive in this world.
And his tone reminded me of her, and the image of the claws piercing her chest flashed through my mind again.
Feeling frustrated, I subconsciously clenched my fists.
"What?"
"Don't talk to me anymore." After saying this, I left the stunned Ethan and walked straight to my room.
My body was in so much pain and I was mentally and physically exhausted. So, I didn't want to deal with a so-called 'hero'.
With that, I returned to my room and immediately took a bath with special herbs that I had paid for.
Right now, I have enough money to invest in some things. Now I can leave the academy to go hunting, but I also need to increase my training and make full use of the resources of the academy, so everything needs to be balanced.
After taking a bath, I sat on the bed and started reading the book "Moonlight Gathering: The Legend of the Moon's Mana".
To be honest, I didn’t expect much from this book, despite its catchy title. I was so wrong.
The reason is not because the book taught me how to use mana. Mana is not something that can be easily used and mastered. It is very complex and requires a lot of training and practice to master.
However, the book gave me an invaluable insight into mana - the ability to discern mana colors. My mana resonates with all the different colors. It's as if the power of the moon is deeply imprinted in my body.
The book, whose pages were nearly worn and ancient, described the colors of mana associated with each month, revealing the secret that linked my abilities to the moon:
Blood Moon:
The blood moon, symbolizing bloodthirsty and aggressive, awakened a strong desire to fight in my heart. This red mana can bring a sense of fanaticism in battle.
Whenever this red energy appeared in my dagger, my body seemed to be awakened by the desire to fight. Strangely, I noticed that the more injured I was, the stronger this red mana became. It was as if the call of the moon grew stronger as my own strength weakened, giving me strength when I needed it most.
Harvest Moon:
The Harvest Moon symbolizes the fruitfulness of hard work and abundance, and this ability is reflected in the silver-gray mana associated with it. Although I have not yet fully explored its potential, I feel that this mana grants me agility, and each consecutive attack increases my speed. The true purpose of this mana is still hidden, waiting for me to explore.
Crescent Moon:
Crescent Moon
Symbolizing excess, potential, and the flow of energy, its vivid green glow is emblematic of its power. Though I have yet to fully grasp its effects, I remember seeing green tendrils when it was activated. It was as if this mana resonated with a deep but unknown aspect of my abilities.
The above three are what I have observed so far through the use of mana, but there are two other colors of mana mentioned in the book.
New Moon:
The new moon, a dark void, is black and purple in color. It represents mystery and the unknown, an invitation to explore worlds I have never seen, and the power it holds remains elusive. As I have never attempted to tap into the sun's energy, I can only guess at the potential hidden in the black and purple mana.
eclipse:
There is almost no information about the contents of this page in the book. Other than mentioning that gold and blue are its representative colors, the rest seems to have been erased.
However, the mere existence of this chapter is enough to indicate that this must be related to the sun.
"My magic power is the power of the moon. I don't feel very powerful in the sunlight." I thought so.
My affinity with the moon meant that I could not draw power from the sun. I had originally thought it was impossible, but a vague idea occurred to me in the back of my mind. Despite this limitation, I couldn't help but wonder if it was possible.
"Perhaps the power of the moon is used to imitate the characteristics of the sun?" I asked myself. The sun is undoubtedly very powerful.
What would the Sun look like from the Moon's perspective?
"It must look like fire," I thought. Whenever I see the sun, I always think of fire.
"But it's too early to draw conclusions now." I muttered to myself. Since I haven't mastered how to use a certain kind of magic power yet, I can't confirm anything.
But at least I know I have a direction, which is a good start.
So, I closed the book and lay down on the bed to rest. Now I need to rest well, because tomorrow is the day to join the club.
......
When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is go for a run before breakfast.
I wasn’t the only one doing this either, I saw some seniors and first years running as well.
However, I ignored them and started running, thinking about the events of the day.
Today is the day that freshmen can apply to join clubs. These clubs cover a wide range of activities, from combat to art.
And I'm thinking about which one I should join.
Ethan will definitely join the Lance Society and the Adventure Society.
Julia will also join the Adventure Club because she is a girl who likes to explore everywhere. And because of Julia's joining, Victor will also join, and then Irina will also join.
This means that the four main characters will all join the club, which will undoubtedly attract more and more attention.
"Should I join or not?" I thought. The reason for wanting to join was simple. In the game, every time this group went on an exploration, there would be people who had signed a contract with the devil, commonly known as 'half-demon'. This was also because the game developers used this community to describe the open world.
Since the devil contractors will continue to appear in this society, they will eventually lead me to the devil. There are even some half-demons who escaped the players' pursuit in the game, and I will never let these people go. Thinking of this, I decided to join.
This is the first club I am joining.
"The second club must be the one Sylvie joins." I thought.
The reason is simple. Because the demons will constantly target the future saint because of her power, this means that Xierwei is a "magnet" that attracts the demons' attention.
In fact, in the game, the society with the most side story events is the one that Xierwei joined.
"The Guild of History and Art," I thought to myself.
Although this society has the word "guild" in its name, it is not actually a serious organization, but just a society that likes to talk about history. However, for some reason, this society often travels, explores the Valerian Federation, and visits buildings left over from the past.
Their main goal was to explore the remains of buildings that existed in a time before mana, the "pre-mana era".
I don't know why Xierwei joined this club, but I don't need to know the reason.
“The last one should be the archery club,” I thought to myself.
As the name suggests, as an archer, joining this club can not only help me expand my network, but also get some guidance, because the mentor of this club is Mr. Joy, who invited me.
He said he wanted to see how I grew and offered to let me join the club anytime I wanted, which was a good idea considering I wasn't very good with the bow.
These three clubs are the ones I want to join, the other clubs don't attract my attention. I don't have time to waste on unnecessary clubs, the fewer clubs I join, the better for me.
With these thoughts in mind, I finished my morning run and returned to the dormitory to rest. The first class of the day was again the class taught by that annoying woman, so I couldn't be late...
