Traveling through the game world, starting out as a third-rate villain
Chapter 58: Rampant
When I left the museum, I looked around and saw what was happening around me.
Whatever they had planned, the fact that the aid arrived so late could only mean one simple thing.
"The monster is rampant."
And the signs of this are obvious.
soo
I could still see some hunters fighting monsters scattered around the city. It was obvious that the scale of the monster's attack was anything but ordinary.
“I don’t understand, why is something like this never heard of in the game?” I saw the hunter asking himself while fighting other monsters. Since I was not exposed to be carrying a weapon, I did not participate in the hunt.
But things were a little different than I imagined.
"Even Kaya Hartley would have a hard time covering up what happened here." There was no way this attack could be hidden, especially from Ethan.
"Either the content of the game has changed, or I missed something." I thought, racking my brains. But in the end, I couldn't come up with an answer, and the only explanation was that the Hartley family was far more powerful than I expected.
whoosh, boom
Suddenly, I felt some heat around me.
No, it should be said that something is wrong with "around". The flames should be attacking the surrounding monsters.
"Stand back! I'll take care of them!" This was the excited voice of a young girl, her hands were burning with flames.
Her long hair danced in the middle of the battlefield, and her golden eyes burned like the sun.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh
A group of monsters rushed towards her from all directions, their roars intertwined into a chaos. But the girl came forward, her laughter as loud as a war cry. "Come on, you ugly creatures! Let's see who is the master in this battle!"
Her words echoed with bursts of fire, each strike striking down the enemy with pinpoint accuracy. The way she used magic reminded me of a mage I knew, and her personality came through on the battlefield.
She twirled and flew as the monsters approached, fire dancing behind her.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh
The battle continued, and every time she swung her arms, a stream of fire came out, burning the monsters in her path. Her laughter was loud and clear, showing that she was enjoying it. "Come on! Burn!" she shouted, and with her determined smile, her enthusiasm infected everyone around her.
Whoosh
Just as a monster lunged at her from behind, she shaped her flames into intricate shapes, creating a wall of fire to block the fierce monster's attack.
She said with a confident smile, "Haha... did you think I didn't notice? Now, burn!"
whoosh
She moved as fast as lightning, weaving between the monsters, her fire leaving a trail of destruction around her.
Just like that, within a few seconds, all the monsters here were destroyed, not even a single one was left alive.
"Huh... It's so hot..." She raised her hand, wiped away the sweat with a calm movement, and then looked around. “But it’s really interesting.”
I could see her smile because she was addicted to the thrill of fighting, stepping over corpses.
However, the consequences of her fiery attack also became apparent. The buildings and surroundings bore traces of her magic, while other hunters around her looked at her with confusion. The damage she had accidentally caused was too much to ignore.
"Hey! Who are you?" A voice in the crowd broke the silence and attracted the attention of people around. The onlookers seemed cautious, with a mixture of curiosity and vigilance in their expressions.
The reason is simple. She was the girl who came to the rescue, but caused more property damage in the process. Everybody here can do that, but they don't.
"Does it matter who I am? Besides, why are you asking me? I just saved you guys," the girl replied with a frown, obviously unhappy with the tone of the question.
"Sure enough, she is just a child." I thought, looking at her tone. She is a little kid who loves to be the center of attention and does things without considering the consequences, but she wants it but doesn't take responsibility.
It's that simple.
The hunter in charge was clearly not impressed by her answer and he walked towards her with his arms crossed. "Saving us doesn't mean you can wreak havoc and destruction. We could have dealt with those monsters instead of turning this place into a disaster area."
Irina's fiery temper seemed to intensify as she fired back: "Oh, come on! Can you guys do better? I see you guys are struggling here."
The hunter's expression remained serious, his tone authoritative. "Our mission is to protect the city while minimizing collateral damage. Your actions here are extremely reckless."
Irina's hands were ablaze, her anger evident in her clenched fists. "Look, I don't need your lecture. I'm not some newbie wizard who can't control his powers. I already took care of those monsters, and if a few buildings get burned, that's not what can be done."
A murmur of agreement spread among the audience, and some hunters nodded reluctantly in understanding. However, there were some who still stared at Irina with suspicion and disapproval.
Just when the argument seemed to escalate further, another voice broke the tension. "Wait a minute, everyone."
All eyes turned to the person who spoke. A new face came out with a thoughtful expression on his face, observing Irina. The man's gaze seemed to contain a mixture of recognition and understanding.
"I think I know who she is," the man said, his tone calm but full of confidence.
The audience's attention shifted, and their expressions showed obvious curiosity. The atmosphere seemed to have changed as well, and everyone was waiting for the man to give an explanation.
The newcomer turned to Irina, his lips curled up slightly. "You are Irina Phoenix, right? I have heard about your family's powerful fire magic."
As soon as the voice fell, everyone's eyes widened. Looking at the girl, it confirmed the speculation in many people's hearts.
'I'm done?' I could see this expression on the face of the hunter who had just confronted the Phoenix family heir.
He also realized that something was wrong, but by the time he realized it, things had already gotten out of control.
He is a pathetic man. He is right, but he is facing an opponent who not only requires him to be right, but also requires him to be strong enough to back himself up.
This is the world we live in.
Right and wrong are defined by the strong.
At that moment, watching the crowd's reaction, an unnatural smile broke out on Irina's face. She seemed genuinely happy because she finally got the reaction she deserved.
"Tsk, what a child." I muttered in annoyance. If the world is really handed over to such a person, the future will be miserable, although I don't care.
But, I don’t know why, but seeing her smiling like that made me feel a little irritated.
I turned around and prepared to leave, but suddenly I heard another voice coming from the side.
“What’s going on here?”
This is a familiar sound I'm familiar with in the game, coming from here.
Her short white hair fluttered in the wind, and the sword in her hand was stained with blood.
"I thought monsters were wreaking havoc here, so I came to check it out, but it turns out I don't need to intervene?" She muttered, with a smile on her face. This smile would usually make everyone feel relaxed, but no one here felt that way at this moment.
Because everyone knew who this girl was, and she also came from a famous family. Her white hair and blue eyes, coupled with her indescribable beauty, were enough to let everyone know her identity.
Julia Middleton
Unlike Irina's "Phoenix" family, which was mostly engaged in magic research, the Middleton family was a hunter family that cultivated the best hunters in each generation, so they had a wider reputation in the field of monster conquering.
"Oh! Irina? You are here too?" Julia walked towards Irina with her usual friendly smile, while spilling the blood on the sword onto the road and cleaning it up.
Irina's frown seemed to ease a little, and she replied, "Yeah, I was just bored and wandering around. There's nothing interesting in this city. But thanks to these guys, I had a lot of fun." When Irina said this with a smile, the hunters around her frowned.
After all, they were the ones who fought those monsters tooth and nail, and now here this girl was saying she had a lot of fun.
This hits their self-esteem, even if the person involved doesn't care.
Julia chuckled, her smile still intact. "Yeah, I can tell. It seems like you're handling it pretty well."
Irina shrugged nonchalantly, her flame flickering as she indicated the defeated monsters. "Yeah, that was pretty easy. These monsters are nothing, much weaker than what I normally face."
Julia turned her attention to the hunter in charge and nodded politely. "I'm sorry for causing such a commotion. My friend loves to stir up some drama."
The hunter's originally serious expression softened a little under Julia's friendly attitude: "It's no big deal. We are still very grateful for your help, even though there are some extra scenes in the process."
Irina rolled her eyes playfully: "Tsk, if you weren't here, you might still be struggling." Her smile was still on her face, but I could see a hint of displeasure in the hunter's eyes.
“She clearly has a talent for irritating people,” I thought to myself.
Julia's laughter mixed with the whispers of the people around her, and her presence seemed to further defuse the tension. Her reputation and charm helped a lot.
But Irina didn't seem to be interested in the topic. She had obviously had enough of it.
She wanted to change the subject and looked around for Julia's partner.
"Hmm? Where's Victor?" she asked Julia. Since she and Victor were partners, she thought they would be together. She even looked for him for a while but couldn't find him. "I called you, why didn't you answer?" Irina glared at Julia and narrowed her eyes.
"You called? I didn't hear it." Julia replied while looking at her watch. "Look, there's no call here."
When Irina heard the news, she immediately understood the reason, and the anger in her eyes was obvious.
'It must have been Victor. He probably knew Irina would call, so he set up a jammer around them.'
That's what the guy would do, too, because he has some weird obsession with Julia. But that's another story.
As the commotion here had died down, I was about to leave when I heard an interesting piece of news.
"Victor just took a phone call and left."
"He left?" Irina looked very surprised. There was no way Victor would miss the opportunity to hang out with Julia.
"Yes. He suddenly said something urgent happened and left with an annoyed look on his face."
When I heard Julia's words, a rather bold idea suddenly occurred to me.
'if……'
This is just a hypothetical theory, and although I have no evidence, it makes everything seem reasonable.
