Traveling through the game world, starting out as a third-rate villain
Chapter 61 First Attack
"Please assemble with your group. You will now enter the dungeon."
As the instructor's voice sounded, each student gathered with their own group. I was no exception, because this practical training was mandatory.
While poor grades do not result in disciplinary action, if a student is absent from practical training without a valid reason, things could escalate to a very serious level, which is not an outcome I want at this time.
Anyway, I walked slowly and soon noticed that the girl with the amber eyes and red hair was looking at me with a bored expression. Her attitude did not change at all.
'Irina is still the same.'
The other two were there too. Nora was looking at me with an awkward expression, obviously wanting to talk to me. She wasn't the type of girl to ignore others easily.
George looked intimidating and big as usual, but his expression gave him away, he looked a little shy.
'That's the kind of guy he is,' I reminded myself again.
As if she had found the right moment, Irina finally couldn't help herself and snorted coldly. "It's that invisible man again."
Her tone was a dismissive reminder of our first meeting, and it was clear that her attitude had not softened at all. George looked uncomfortable next to her, and Nora's expression was a mixture of uneasiness and sympathy.
"Really?" I replied in a nonchalant tone.
My indifference to her hostility might have confused Irina, but it was better to ignore it than to let her attitude get to me.
"Tsk," she twitched her tongue and turned her attention to the boy she wanted to get his attention.
It was obvious who he was and needed no explanation.
The atmosphere became awkward. I could see that Nora and George both wanted to talk, but Irina's critical behavior and her turning her attention to others made them hesitate.
And so, after a while, our number was finally announced.
"Team 13, enter." The instructor shouted, and our group entered the dungeon. Since this was the academy's simulated dungeon, the discomfort of teleportation was slightly reduced.
As soon as we entered the dungeon, the atmosphere changed dramatically. The surrounding light became dim, and a dark shadow seemed to cover us. This was in stark contrast to the environment of the classroom before.
"Sure enough, they set the conditions to reach the end for a reason. There must be a lot of traps ahead." I came to this conclusion in my mind.
This event isn't shown in detail in the game because there isn't a lot to show, but real life is obviously different from games.
"I'll lead the way," Irina said with an impatient look on her face. She looked like she didn't like being in the dark, and her hands were igniting flickering flames.
The fire cast dancing shadows on the walls, revealing the outline of the passage ahead. As the leader of the team, she seemed more focused and determined than ever, her fire magic like a beacon in the darkness.
But watching her like that, I knew that what she was doing was something that anyone could do, and the instructors must have been prepared with a specific approach to the situation.
'She took action before making a thorough assessment and plan. This girl does not have the qualities to be a leader.'
Whoosh
Just as I was thinking this, suddenly, the flame weakened in the air current.
No, it would be more appropriate to say that it changes. Its light becomes weaker, but the warmth emitted by the flame remains.
'This must be the environment of the dungeon.' I came to this conclusion. The dungeon is a special environment where some unimaginable things happen. It is actually normal for such a phenomenon to occur.
"What's wrong?" Irina asked in a daze. Obviously, she didn't expect her flame to become weaker. "What happened?"
She tried to summon more flames to illuminate the surroundings, but I could see a film of something was surrounding us.
'Does it react to light and exist around it? ' I wondered, trying to comprehend its nature.
"Tsk." She smacked her lips softly and stared at her flame.
"Does any of you know what's going on?" she asked, turning to Nora and George.
"I have no idea."
"I don't know either." The two answered quickly.
"Sigh..." I saw Irina sigh, her eyes looking towards the road ahead, completely ignoring me.
'If you don't want answers, then so be it.'
"Then we can only move forward blindly, without wasting any more time. Watch your step," she replied, and began to walk into the corridor, her nerves tense. The atmosphere became tense; after all, darkness enveloped the surroundings and nothing could be seen.
At least, that's how it seems to them. Because of my characteristics, I can easily see everything that's going on around me. They are all more adapted to the dark. This is my territory.
Besides, the fire Irina lit had shown us the way before darkness fell, so they should also know the way ahead, at least up to a certain point.
'I now understand the purpose of this test.'
For a Hunter, perception and reading the environment are just as important as combat effectiveness. Countless situations can occur within a dungeon, and quick thinking and action are crucial.
This dungeon test is designed to test these skills. When darkness falls, the first thing humans think of is to light up their surroundings to activate their vision.
However, by adding the factor of a veil of darkness and light, instructors can test students’ intermittent vision.
'After a while, Irina's flames might illuminate the surroundings for a second, but then a veil of darkness would follow the light.'
This is a really good idea to test students, and it is indeed the style of the college.
With Irina leading the way, our group continued to move forward along the dark corridor, the atmosphere was full of caution. I lagged behind a little, and with my keen perception, I was able to detect the danger in the darkness.
There was a trap ahead, and luckily none of the three of us triggered it. It was right in my direction, so I slightly turned aside and avoided the trap. I didn't know what it was, and I had no interest in finding out.
"ah!"
Just then, a sudden sharp sound interrupted my thoughts. Irina's scream of pain mixed with the crackling sound of electricity. I immediately turned to look at her and saw that she was twitching and holding her feet tightly.
'Shock trap,' I noted in my mind. I could see she was in pain, but if someone didn't want to cooperate with me, I wasn't going to help. I was just a spectator in their world.
' Karma, ' I thought.
"Irina!" George saw Irina was injured and immediately jumped over to help. This was normal, after all, he was usually responsible for the damage.
But in doing so, he triggered another trap. A net dropped from above, entrapped him and lifted him off the ground.
Then, due to George's large size, he fell to the ground and triggered another trap further away.
whoosh whoosh whoosh
This time, I could see and feel a hail of arrows coming towards our faces.
clang clang clang
"Hey!" Nora shouted with a concerned tone, skillfully blocking the arrow with her sword.
It was dark, but Nora seemed to have adapted to the situation. She glanced at me. It was a look of help, but I just stood there and looked at her.
Even if she is afraid of Irina, if you don’t fight against injustice and ignore your values because you are afraid of the powerful, then you are selfish.
If you are selfish, you have no right to demand that others do as you wish, because they can also be selfish and do whatever they want.
I'm not accusing her of that. It's just the way it is.
As Nora walked towards the two, she approached George first, cut the net with her sword, and bandaged his foot.
By this time, Irina had taken care of herself. Apart from the occasional twitch, it seemed that the effect of the trap had worn off.
However, apparently due to Irina's misjudgment and arrogance, she rushed forward alone as the leader, causing chaos in the three-person formation.
"This is a bit embarrassing." Considering that these people will become the best hunters in the future, they still have a long way to go. But it can't be said that they haven't improved.
Their dynamic is changing and adapting to the immediate challenges they face. It is a test not only of their combat prowess but also of their ability to work as a team under pressure.
"George, go to the front." Irina realized her mistake, glanced at George, and put him in front. "I will try to solve the darkness problem, and Nora will protect me."
Whoosh
However, before they could reorganize their formation, a monster jumped out of the darkness.
And its target is me.
“Tsk.”
I smacked my lips and quickly picked up the bow with the fully drawn bowstring.
Whoosh
As my mana-infused arrow flew out, it accurately pierced the monster's neck and knocked it to the ground.
'Now that I've been exposed, I won't pretend anymore.'
whoosh whoosh whoosh
I quickly fired three mana-infused arrows at the flying monster.
Boom boom boom
The three arrows made crisp sounds, and all the arrows hit the target accurately, and the monster fell to the ground.
"ha?"
George and Nora looked at me in surprise. Even Irina made a slight noise of surprise.
They probably didn't notice the monsters, which was normal. If it weren't for my good vision in the dark, I wouldn't be able to sense them either.
The atmosphere after the confrontation with the monster became tense. Irina, George, and Nora stood in a semicircle, their eyes fixed on me. Obviously, they were caught off guard by my sudden ability.
"Ha, your aim is really good." Irina raised her eyebrows, with a hint of arrogance in her tone. "Can you explain why you didn't tell us that you can see in the dark?"
I could see she was angry, as if her self-esteem was hurt.
'I think it's time to teach her a lesson and establish a hierarchy for future events. Otherwise it's too annoying.'
With this thought in mind, I raised my head and answered:
“No one asked.”
