Two Worlds: I studied at Hogwarts

#112 - Magic Calming Potion

Last time in the club, Moon and Cedric discussed the use of spore powder.

Later, also at Moon's suggestion, Cedric went to the library to look up relevant potion information.

"You're right, I think using spore powder to make sleeping potions is a bit of overkill."

Cedric said, returning to the Herbology Club with Moon. This classroom was right at the corner of the staircase.

Because today wasn't a gathering day, there were only the two of them in the Herbology Club.

"You can take a look, these are the anesthetic and sedative potions I found in the library."

Cedric said, handing Moon a piece of parchment with three potion names and uses written in blue ink.

The first is [Soothing Potion].

This potion is mainly used to calm and soothe the patient's irritability and anxiety, but excessive use may lead to permanent and irreversible sleep.

The potion ingredients include moonstone powder, hellebore syrup, tarragon, lavender, and mint.

The brewing method is blank?

Moon looked at the blank space on the parchment and looked up at Cedric curiously.

"I don't have access to the detailed brewing methods for these three potions right now. If we can decide which one to brew, I'll ask Professor Sprout for a library pass."

"Okay."

After Moon finished speaking, he continued to read the contents on the parchment.

The second potion Cedric recorded was [Forgetfulness Potion].

This potion is a commonly used magical sedative in St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.

It can make people forget some painful or unpleasant memories and is a common potion for wizards with severe mental trauma.

The ingredients needed to brew the Forgetfulness Potion are Grass, Sleeping Beans, and Parasitic Berries.

The third potion is [Draught of Living Death].

This is an extremely potent sleep-inducing anesthetic potion, with effects similar to unconsciousness, presenting a state of suspended animation.

To brew this potion, you need to prepare wormwood infusion, asphodel powder, and sloth brain.

"I haven't seen these three potions before, but are you sure spore powder can be used in them?"

Moon had never seen the names of these three potions before, so he wasn't very sure.

Cedric, on the other hand, was unusually excited. He took the parchment and first pointed to the list of ingredients for [Soothing Potion].

"Lavender in the Soothing Potion has a calming and sleep-inducing effect."

Then he pointed to the Forgetfulness Potion.

"This Sleeping Bean, which comes from South America, is a powerful sedative fruit."

"And finally, the sloth brain in the Draught of Living Death has a very strong anesthetic effect."

Moon looked at these potion ingredients one by one, and then said thoughtfully.

"So you want to use spore powder to replace these things to see if you can brew a similar potion?"

"That's right, the brewing cost and difficulty of these three potions are very high. If spore powder is successful, I will definitely be able to enter the competition next year."

Seeing Cedric so confident, Moon couldn't discourage him. He just thought for a moment and continued.

"What we need to do now is to conduct a purification test on the spore powder before we can determine who it can replace."

Moon said, pointing to the potion ingredients that Cedric had just circled.

"That's what I think too, but spore powder is, after all, a new thing. I haven't figured out how to conduct the enhancement test yet."

Hearing Cedric say this, Moon stared again at the glass bottle containing the spore powder.

Although the Sleepy Face Mushroom has been completely transformed into something else after the two of them modified it, it is still a low-lying organism that lives near the surface.

This inevitably causes its spore powder to be contaminated by various soils, gravel, and impurities.

Thinking of this, Moon recalled the [Elementary Potion Analysis] he had been studying recently.

This book mentioned three kinds of separation potions, one of which seemed to be able to deal with this situation.

"I have a way that might work."

After explaining the function of the separation potion to Cedric, the young wizard excitedly went to prepare to make this simple potion.

After leaving the club, Moon quickly returned to the common room.

Now the time should have just passed twenty-four hours, and the terracotta figurines that had been fired for a whole day should be out of the kiln. Sure enough, when Moon returned to the common room, he found all the young wizards waiting for him in front of the fireplace.

"How is it?"

Moon asked Hermione next to him after approaching.

"I said to wait until all these matches were burned out, but Seamus said he wasn't afraid, so..."

Listening to Hermione's explanation, Moon looked at Seamus, who was wearing dragon hide gloves and happily reaching into the fireplace.

"He really likes fire!"

"That's right, although it's incomprehensible."

While Moon and Hermione were discussing, Seamus had already taken out the terracotta figurines one by one and placed them on the prepared slate.

"Be careful, don't burn the floor."

Looking at the hot terracotta figurines, Ron unconsciously took a step back.

"Don't worry, Ron, we have two masters of [Mending Charm] here."

Harry said, looking at Hermione and Moon.

Ron also glanced at the two and said helplessly, "Okay."

The attention of the young wizards present was focused on the terracotta figurines.

Hermione held a stopwatch, saying that it was necessary to let it cool for enough time.

Click.

When the stopwatch finished timing, Ron couldn't wait to smash open the sealed pottery pot with his name on it.

"It's broken, Scabbers doesn't have a tail."

Ron took out a cute little rat from the pottery pot, but its tail was broken.

Seamus also followed suit and opened his jar, revealing a lifelike little lizard.

However, also because the claws were too slender, all of the little lizard's original pointed toenails were broken off.

Hermione's cat-shaped terracotta figurine also had the same problem.

When she was trimming the cat's ears, she deliberately thinned them for the sake of beauty, which resulted in only half of the cat's ears remaining.

Fortunately, the owl, toad, and Niffler didn't have any major problems.

When Harry was making the Hedwig terracotta figurine, he was lazy and didn't trim the owl's claws, so he was lucky to escape the situation of the claws breaking.

The Leefu terracotta figurine was because it was simple to make.

And when Neville was making it, he forgot the steps Hermione said, which led him to put a piece of the terracotta figurine base into the fireplace.

This also allowed the toad terracotta figurine's claws to be preserved.

On the other hand, the shape of the Niffler terracotta figurine was very well preserved.

Because of his experience in wood carving, Moon knew that the thinner the place, the easier it was to break, so he reinforced the Niffler's claws.

"What should I do? All three of my rats are tailless rats."

"Actually, I think it looks good without a tail."

Harry picked up his only intact owl terracotta figurine at this time.

Hermione was also sadly stroking the three cats with broken ears at this time.

"It's okay, we can just do it again on the weekend."
