Under the Red Dragon

#176 - Abandoned or a hero?

The four city gates of the Golden City are now a bustling scene, with two gates for entry and two for exit, teeming with people and vehicles.

Entering are rows of vehicles and troops carrying military supplies, while leaving are residents with their families, merchants stranded due to the port closure, and adventurers.

After the declaration of war, news of the impending conflict spread throughout the territory's taverns, inns, and guilds, casting a shadow of war over all the cities.

However, many ships and travelers arriving from afar were unaware of the news and continued to head towards the Golden Seaport, causing significant congestion.

Under the command of the Ocean Dragon Nexon, war treants resurrected from various locations arrived at the Golden City with slow steps, dismantling the city walls facing the hinterland to alleviate the pressure on the city, which still had a large population despite the constant outflow.

Once the residents were evacuated, these war treants, along with elven druids, used magic and their natural abilities to bring the forest to the city's edge, then transported the lumber from the felled forest into the city to begin building a circular barbican according to the craftsmen's plans.

However, the city's buildings were not extensively demolished; the main structures of these buildings could also serve as part of the barbican's defensive walls, saving a lot of effort and allowing the massive barbican to be built quickly.

Cannons were mounted and secured on the barbican's walls, and ballistae on the corner platforms of the barbican gleamed with a chilling light.

On the coast, a massive red dragon clung to the castle built on the reef, watching the newly docked ships at the pier, as many ragged people disembarked and underwent routine registration and inspection by the coastal guards.

Although the Golden Land still engaged in the human trade, purchasing large numbers of serfs and slaves from the noble territories, each overseas trade voyage brought many people to the territory.

However, thanks to the propaganda of the territory's publicity department and the recruited bards, the number of voluntary migrants had begun to surpass the number of purchased serfs.

The changes and actual conditions in the territory, passed on by word of mouth, had gradually convinced the migrants of the news about the Golden Land, and they were voluntarily pouring into the territory in a steady stream.

In addition, many merchant ships carrying tea, silk fabrics, and various porcelain collectibles arrived at the seaport, cautiously entering the only remaining passage in the crowded harbor.

Now, the Dragon Clan Territory was no longer as impoverished as before, simply reduced to a dumping ground for the products of various merchant guilds and nobles. In the past, ships would arrive loaded with slaves, salt, grain, and weapons, but now the Dragon Clan had begun to dump its own territory's products in reverse.

The once huge trade deficit was gradually being erased, and now the Dragon Clan Territory's ships were fully loaded with gold, fur, salt, and various processed ores and ironware to be sold to foreign countries.

The young red dragon Cadyros perched on the castle, looking down at the ships that continued to arrive even after the port was closed, and could not help but be moved by the Dragon Clan's endless flow of wealth.

"Damn orcish scum, this wealth will be mine, Cadyros', in the future. To dare delay my acquisition of wealth, you truly deserve to be crushed."

The young red dragon's steel teeth gnashed together, and the greed in his eyes almost overflowed. If not for the enslavement contract on his body keeping him clear-headed, he would probably have been unable to resist flying down and plundering all the treasures on the ships.

"Your ships have been requisitioned. You can take all your goods with you. The requisitioned ships will be compensated by the territory at market value. Here is your requisition slip."

The kobold captain on the shore led the guards onto the newly arrived ships and said to the captain.

"This is Earl Kyle's trade fleet. You can't do this," the fleet guards around the captain picked up their weapons and surrounded them.

"You minions of evil dragons, have you finally revealed your true colors? Set sail, set sail, let's leave this place," the captain shouted loudly.

But the harbor was full of sunken ships, countless ships submerged in the harbor waters, and many ships were being tied together with thick ropes, floating on the sea, blocking the originally wide harbor. Ships that wanted to return needed to be extra careful.

"Humph, our wyvern patrols are inspecting the sea lanes, specifically dissuading arriving merchant ships. You were also blinded by greed, ignoring the warnings. You deserve to have your ships requisitioned."

The kobold captain was not afraid of the tall guards' swords in their superior leather armor. He didn't even draw his own weapon, but instead raised a small command flag.

Whoosh!

The young red dragon Cadyros, perched on the castle, flapped his wings and landed on the deck of the ship, the dragon's heavy body causing the entire merchant ship to shake slightly.

"You damned, cowardly scum, get out of here now! Take your belongings and get off my ship! This ship is mine now!"

The young red dragon snorted sparks from his nostrils, lowered his head, and bared his fangs, intimidating the merchants and guards.

Before the intimidated people could recover, the wyvern knights from the distant ocean sky blew a loud and uplifting horn.

Woo, woo...

The crowd and the dragon looked back, and on the distant horizon, a black dot leaped out of the sea, followed by a line of black dots.

The next moment, these black dots leaped out of the sea, and they were sails, sails and sails, endless sails like a wall of forest on the sea, connecting the sea and the sky, occupying the entire field of vision.

Hundreds of huge ships connected into a firm wall on the sea, squeezing towards the coast. And the young red dragon Cadyros' vision allowed him to see that beside this wall, in the turbulent tide, were countless Sahuagin riding sharks.

The dense Sahuagin, connected into an underwater shadow, were wider than the wall of ships connected on the sea, and they were driving higher and higher waves, rushing towards the harbor.

The young red dragon spread its huge wings, soared from the ship, and let out a loud roar in the air.

"Roar..."

The sentry on the watchtower also blew the horn of the enemy at this time, and the bell of the Golden City was also rung. For a time, the entire sky was shaken by the sound of horns and bells.

A thick, long iron chain, spanning the entire harbor, slowly rose from the sea and then straightened.

The tall orc, clad in armor, the great noble of the Orc Kingdom, Garn, stood on his flagship, looking out at the approaching coast.

The surrounding orc warriors also surrounded him, and the desire for battle and the excitement of plunder made these armored orcs roar and pound their chests.

"Instead of wasting these warriors in the upcoming civil war, it is better to let them become the blades of the Orc Kingdom against the outside world,"

Garn straightened his chest, and he whispered: "Let's see if we are pawns or heroes!"
