#263 - Go to Stormwind Keep
Chapter 263: Journey to Storm Keep
Storm Kingdom, Year 58, second month of winter.
In Peter Castle, Sou Nan received a document from Storm Keep bearing the royal seal—a document revoking noble titles.
Sou Nan read it in his study, his own name prominently listed. Not only that, but even Duke Thessalonica Latin had been dismissed.
Also listed were Duke Achaea, Earl Attica, and a lengthy list of hundreds of nobles, both great and small.
The king was essentially canceling the titles of more than two-thirds of the kingdom's nobility, along with all their territories, subjects, and the obligations of loyalty to these lords.
Simultaneously, King Barry issued a royal decree demanding that the Storm Church also strip all the aforementioned nobles of their religious status, forbidding these sinful lords from attending Mass or praying to the God of Storms.
However, the Storm Church and the Archbishop remained silent this time.
Perhaps even the Storm Church couldn't comprehend the royal family's bizarre actions.
Regardless, two entities maintained the kingdom: the royal family and the church.
As long as the Storm Church didn't join in the madness, only the Storm Royal Family would become a laughingstock.
And King Barry, a week later, planned to summon the Kingdom Council within Storm Keep to formally pressure the church into issuing a decree of excommunication.
In his study, Sou Nan held the royal-sealed decree and suddenly smiled.
When he had signed the contract with Barry before, he had seen Barry's signature. Although the signature on this document resembled Barry's, Sou Nan could confirm upon closer inspection that it was not Barry's own hand.
Sou Nan chuckled, "Now I know that Barry is neither involved with their organization nor being coerced by them. The king in Storm Keep's palace is a fake."
"However, they're quite imaginative this time. If they really manage to convene the Kingdom Council in a week, they might actually succeed in completely splitting the Storm Kingdom."
Sou Nan pondered, "This confirms one thing for me: After destroying the Eastern Human Empire, the Energy World's next target is the Storm Kingdom."
"Destroying this kingdom would benefit them. But for me, the kingdom's destruction would result in more losses than gains. Moreover, the Energy World is the enemy of the wizards, and I won't let them accomplish what they want to do."
Warwick helped Sou Nan organize the documents on his desk, saying, "The style of this matter doesn't resemble the Blind Nun's. The Blind Nun acts more directly; she prefers using assassinations and other straightforward methods to throw a region into chaos."
Sou Nan thought of the Blind Monk. "Mm. Prepare the carriage; this time, we'll go to the capital as a creditor of the royal family."
He had already sent people to take over the Grand Library of the capital, which the royal family had sold to him, but they hadn't completely finished organizing the books and moving them to his territory, nor had he obtained the inheritance of the Deep Blue Wizard.
During the two weeks of preparation, Sou Nan also helped Vasili raise his mental strength to 300 and, with the aid of numerous consumable magic potions, taught Vasili the Frost Nova and Control Skeleton King spells.
At the same time, Sou Nan used the two weeks to equip all forty of his mutated werewolves with Arcane Blink Rings and Arcane Shield Rings.
In addition, he created twenty bottles of Werewolf Fusion Potion, which allowed two werewolves to temporarily merge and gain power greater than 1+1.
Sou Nan also spent two weeks refining a Treant Potion from the [Knowledge Ancient Tree], but he hadn't yet found a suitable tree to transform into a Knowledge Ancient Tree Treant.
After all, that was a Rank 1 creature, and finding a tree with that potential wasn't easy. The trees in the Four Seasons Garden were definitely not suitable.
Sou Nan could only try to trade for a suitable tree at the gathering, or perhaps look for suitable magic resources at Storm Keep.
Meanwhile, in the laboratory, Mother Black Wheat and Songzhong were working hard to create special fire fox skins to help Sou Nan refine the Fury of Fire Demon.
The Arcane Swarm was searching every inch of the underground world for other entrances.
Currently, the development of their own mental strength, the swarm, the wolf pack, the treant, the death knights, and the golems had all temporarily entered a plateau.
They needed to find new magic resources to continue progressing further.
This was also Sou Nan's purpose in going to Storm Keep.
Sou Nan's departure for Storm Keep didn't attract much attention because even Duke Thessalonica Latin was protesting to the Storm Royal Family. The entire aristocratic circle of the Storm Kingdom seemed to have exploded.
Therefore, an earl going to Storm Keep at this time became a very ordinary matter. Moreover, Sou Nan was going as a creditor of the royal family, which made it seem even more reasonable.
Duke Thessalonica Latin was also leading an army to Storm Keep, stationed outside the fortress. Duke Thessalonica Latin might not be able to defeat the Bulgars, but he could certainly defeat the repeatedly battered royal army.
Especially now that the Storm Church's attitude was very ambiguous.
Sou Nan, along with Warwick, Bloom, Robert who had recently become a Storm Knight, as well as Vasili, the Death Knight Legion, and the vampire Cole, set off for Storm Keep.
With the Eco-position Reversal Spell, Sou Nan could easily summon the treant, the swarm, and the golems. And since he needed forces to guard his territory, he didn't bring the swarm or similar armies.
Outside Storm Keep, the north was a forest, and the south was a plain.
Storm Keep was formerly the capital of the Eastern Human Empire, with a history of thousands of years. Storm Keep had two city walls on land and was surrounded by the sea on three sides, making it easy to defend and difficult to attack.
The castle complex of Storm Keep's walls was magnificent and grand, full of splendor.
However, on the road to Storm Keep, an army was escorting a convoy of fifteen prisoner carts.
These prisoner carts were all filled with well-dressed, pampered nobles.
A large number of soldiers vigilantly guarded the prisoner convoy, seemingly worried that someone would attack it.
Sou Nan, sitting in his carriage, ordered Bloom, who was driving, to stop and ask a passing farmer what was going on with the prisoner convoy.
The farmer immediately lowered his voice and replied to Bloom, "Those people are all prisoners from the Granville Earl family. We've heard in the streets and alleys that the Granville Earl family angered King Barry."
"They believed that some of the adults appointed by King Barry were unreasonable, and as a result, the entire Granville Earl family was treated as traitors a few days ago. The king's army and knights surrounded the Granville Earl family."
"Maybe the Granville Earl family really had problems, otherwise why would the king deal with them?"
Bloom, receiving Sou Nan's order through the wolf pack effect, nodded to the farmer, gave him a silver coin, and then, amid the farmer's surprise, drove away.
The Death Knight Legion guarded the three Peter Family carriages that were traveling to Storm Keep this time.
Sou Nan knew what was going on. It must be that old bastard Blind Monk eliminating dissidents, clearing out nobles who might discover their true faces from the capital, and continuing to disrupt the politics of the Storm Kingdom.
Sou Nan's carriage hadn't even gone two hundred meters further when they suddenly heard chaotic sounds behind them.
He opened the carriage and saw a cavalry unit suddenly rushing out of the nearby woods and attacking the Storm Royal Army.
A knight in the Storm Royal Army shouted, "There are rebels! There are rebels!"
The knight army that rushed out of the woods shouted loudly, "We are not rebels. The Granville Earl family has always been loyal to the kingdom, but there are traitors in the royal family now!"
The two sides began to fight.
The farmers and merchants on both sides of the road avoided them, fearing to be caught in the crossfire. Sou Nan ordered Bloom to enter Storm Keep, rushing in before the Storm Keep city gates closed.
Sou Nan leaned back in the carriage, tapping the window with his fingers, and said, "The capital has indeed become very chaotic. All forces are gathering here, taking turns to perform on the stage."
"Then it's my turn. First, I'll go to the Grand Library to receive the resources that belong to me. Second, I'll have Wolf Three go to the area near Bulgar to look for the wizard ruins of the Golden Wizard."
"Then, there are… there are many warlocks in this city now. I need to catch some to deal with Myrcat."
"Next, I'll look for the remaining vampires who are loyal to the Energy World."
The commercial trade within Storm Keep was very prosperous, but it was mostly managed by people from the Platinum Commercial Republic. After Sou Nan and the others entered Storm Keep, they immediately rented a decent villa and accompanying small manor in the inner city area.
With the gold mines of the Black Wheat Underground Region, Sou Nan was not short of money at all, so he simply bought a comfortable residence.
Then, Sou Nan went directly to the Grand Library.
The Grand Library of the capital had a long history and covered a vast area, but at this moment, not many people entered it.
Sou Nan arrived on the first floor, found the staff member responsible for guiding and zoning within the library, and asked, "I need book number 1023 in your library."
Before the middle-aged staff member could react, Sou Nan quickly stated his identity. "By the way, I am the new owner of this library."
"Sou Nan Peter."
The middle-aged staff member looked at the family crest on Sou Nan's complex blue noble robes and finally realized that this was the new owner of their library. He immediately habitually bowed his head to Sou Nan and said, "Earl, hello. I will go get that book for you now."
Sou Nan said, "Have many people borrowed book number 1023 before?"
The middle-aged staff member thought seriously for a moment, "Earl Peter, probably not many. Because there are extremely many books in the library, hundreds of thousands."
"So basically not many people would read book number 1023, but it's not impossible. We haven't paid attention, so we can't be sure. But in short, this book has indeed never been lost."
