Xuantian Immortal Cultivation Record

#84 - Words written after the completion of Volume 1

(This is a side note and not part of today's update. There will be another chapter uploaded before 5 PM.)

Volume 1, 'The Ancient Sect's Secret Treasure,' is now complete, totaling nearly 300,000 words. It has been mostly two chapters a day, occasionally three, which is a decent amount, mainly due to having some backlog.

As a new web novel author, the biggest worry is writing diligently but having no one read your work. This book, up to now, has no ratings, so you can imagine how dismal the results are. However, for the past month, over 100 readers have persisted in following the updates, around 40 have consistently urged for more, and 38 readers, including 'Hello Beautiful Jiang Ying,' 'Tao Xianjun Who Loves Fried Shrimp Chips,' and 'Fen Zou,' have sent gifts. The few book reviews are also filled with encouraging words, all of which motivate the author to continue writing. Here, I also express my heartfelt gratitude for the support and love from all the readers!

Like many web novel authors, I write part-time, starting from a place of passion. My two favorite cultivation novels are 'A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality' and 'The Grand Dao is Supreme.' 'The Grand Dao is Supreme' is highbrow and unattainable, while 'A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality' not only tells the story of a mortal but is also told by a mortal. Forget the language skills, at least in the first half of 'A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality,' are very 'approachable.' Anyone who has attended middle school can probably achieve that level. To some extent, this is why 'A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality' is loved by so many readers. Forget's strength lies in his storytelling ability, especially his excellent grasp of structure and pacing. A novel of over 6 million words, except for some drag in the early stages, is very well-arranged in the later parts. The story unfolds gradually, making readers not feel like they are reading a massive work. The reason I specifically mention 'A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality' is to talk about my original intention in creating 'The Profound Sky Cultivation Record': to use a mortal's heart, wield a mortal's pen, write about mortal affairs, and express mortal sentiments.

Of course, 'The Profound Sky Cultivation Record' is not a purely mortal-flow cultivation novel. As I understand it, there are two key points to mortal-flow cultivation novels: first, the protagonist has mediocre talent and no background, a complete ordinary person; second, the cultivation world is treacherous and full of deceit. These two points are connected. In the real world, we all have the experience that the more you live at the bottom of society, the more likely you are to witness the evil of human nature. Conversely, if you are rich, powerful, and have a background, then almost everyone will treat you kindly. This is not to satirize anything; in fact, if we ask ourselves, most of us would have this attitude. No matter where you are, strength is ultimately respected. Therefore, 'A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality' fully depicts the selfishness and self-interest of the cultivation world, people dying for wealth and birds for food, gentle words above and swords below, making everyone feel it is very realistic. A cultivator can only have dignity and freedom if they are strong, which is the strongest value and the most practical survival view.

'The Profound Sky Cultivation Record' has many mortal-flow elements, such as the protagonist's mediocre talent and the treachery of human nature, but it is not all these. There will also be brotherhood, master-disciple relationships, and friendships. No matter what world, the form of power is not only individual but also collective, that is, organized power. In the cultivation world, this is the collective of sects and families. Once it becomes a collective, it will inevitably have its etiquette and system, that is, rules and traditions. Under this, there will also be trust between people and corresponding emotions. The center of 'The Profound Sky Cultivation Record' is, of course, the protagonist Zhang Yuanjing, but there will be many supporting characters. They are not dispensable; each is a unique life form with their own desires, the joy of having their desires satisfied, and the pain of not having them satisfied. The so-called 'Profound Sky' refers first to the Profound Sky Sect, the cultivators gathered under this banner, and secondly to all those who seek the Great Dao under the profound and distant Heavenly Dao, and who do not regret seeking it even if it means facing death.

Therefore, 'The Profound Sky Cultivation Record' is not a 'cool' novel. The protagonist does not have a golden finger, but because of his mediocre talent, he will have many opportunities, which has already been reflected in the first volume. More will continue to appear in the future, and the forms will be more diverse, increasing readability and interest. These can also be regarded as enjoyable points of reading. But no matter how many opportunities there are, turning them into strength ultimately depends on one's own efforts. As for routines like pretending to be weak to deceive others and face-slapping, there may be a little, but it will not be very obvious, and certainly not much. This book focuses on telling a story. Each volume will have a theme, but the volumes are also linked together. After experiencing many events, the protagonist's cultivation realm will improve, but this improvement is not uniform, sometimes faster, sometimes slower, all subordinate to the needs of the story's development itself.

It is easy to know but difficult to do. Everything must be put into words. This 'Volume 1' is a prologue. In some places, the handling is a bit simple, not rich and detailed enough, which somewhat affects the reading experience. This is also due to the author's lack of experience and ability. The author will strive to learn from the lessons, constantly improve, and give back to all readers with higher quality writing!
