Hogwarts 1991
Chapter 28
Chapter 28
"Fruit basket." Snape said the spell to open the door to the two stone monster statues.
Two gargoyles jumped to the sides, parting the road, and the wall behind it split in two, revealing a movable spiral staircase behind it, which led to Dumbledore's headmaster's office. He went in, and climbed higher and higher as the staircase turned round and round, until he came to the office door with the brass knocker.
Snape knocked on the door.
"Come in" was Dumbledore's voice.
"Good evening, sir." Snape said as he walked into the Headmaster's office.
He entered it and found that Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick were also there, and they were checking the old sorting hat over and over again with their wands in doubt (the magic hat kept laughing, saying that it was very itchy).
Snape asked Professor McGonagall, "Find out what happened to the Sorting Hat?"
The magic hat was constantly explaining that he didn't know what happened just now, but he just had a strong feeling - he couldn't stay in that head for too long, or his body would break down.
"I'm going to break!"
From time to time, it twisted its body and laughed, saying that it was so itchy and let the two scratch it.
This nonsense made Professor McGonagall wave his wand with a cold face to eliminate its voice.
"No black magic, no confusion spells, no traces of magic,...it's strange,...it should be intact." Flitwick muttered, holding the wand and floating the Sorting Hat in mid-air to check in detail.
He was talking to himself as well as answering Snape's question.
Professor McGonagall said to Dumbledore with a serious expression: "Professor, this is a serious accident. I think it should be re-tested...or at least McGuffin Albert should be re-tested."
Always rigorous, she also wondered in her heart whether this shabby hat was crazy, or she directly assigned McGuffin to Gryffindor for revenge.
Professor McGonagall scoffed at all imprecise magic such as divination, which was purely based on sensory talent, but he always felt that after this little wizard was assigned to Gryffindor, such troublesome things would continue to happen.
She thought of what she had suffered at McGuffin Albert's house, embarrassment, anger and various complex emotions were intertwined.
"Accident? No, since the devil's hat is intact and normal, there is no need to measure it again. It's just that something special happened that we don't know about. We have to keep an open mind. Various experiences are also helpful to other teachers and students in our school..." Dumbledore said with a smile.
"Special?" Professor McGonagall snorted angrily, looking at the smiling old bee.
"It's true—it's very special, you don't know about their Muggle family, especially that McGuffin's sister—" Professor McGonagall paused and continued, "I tell you, professor! That family's brains are absolutely abnormal...In short, I have never met such a Muggle. From that memory, you can also..."
The words stopped abruptly, and Professor McGonagall became embarrassed and did not continue.
Although experience told Professor McGonagall that what Dumbledore said was always correct, she knew that there must be a little secret behind it that she didn't know.
Professor McGonagall left after checking the Sorting Hat with Professor Flitwick.
Only Dumbledore and Snape were left in the office.
"Ah, good evening, Professor Snape, sit down." Dumbledore said with a smile, "We'll talk about something tonight."
……
Snape paced back and forth in front of Dumbledore, emphasizing it repeatedly.
"I don't know why you recruited Quirrell to the school. Even without the insanity, I can see that there is something wrong with him-- trembling, timid, wearing that ridiculous big hood..."
"Hmph! Who does he think he can fool with his little tricks? Even - a mouse can smell the smell of the mysterious man on him. He must have come into contact with the Dark Lord from somewhere."
"I'm glad you've also seen the problem." Dumbledore kept sliding his wand on the sorting hat, and the hat kept twisting, as if it had been wrapped around an itchy spot. "—This requires you to pay attention to Quirrell and protect Harry."
"Need?—Attention?—" Snape stopped and stood in front of Dumbledore, glaring at him and questioning him, "Since you know that Quirrell is related to the Dark Lord, you still let him teach Defense Against the Dark Arts? And let him contact Harry."
Dumbledore stood up and put the hat on the shelf beside him.
"It doesn't matter. Although the Dark Lord is not dead, he is so weak now that he will not act rashly. Sending his followers here has a more important goal, and you know—"
"The Sage's Miracle Stone—the Philosopher's Stone!" Snape breathed out slowly.
"That's right, he's lingering now and doesn't have much power. If he wants to make a comeback, he needs the power of the Sorcerer's Stone. After Nick Flamel of France felt Voldemort's dark peeping, he entrusted the Sorcerer's Stone to me for safekeeping."
"Before he gets the Philosopher's Stone and the Dark Lord is resurrected, as his servant, Quirrell will not make any suspicious actions. In other words-he will only murder Harry in an unexpected way, and it is very likely that he will not arouse our suspicion through multiple actions. Now we need to protect Harry while accurately understanding Voldemort's current situation through Quirrell, and—"
Dumbledore put down his wand, looked up at Snape and said, "The most important thing is knowing how to kill Voldemort!"
"Kill Voldemort!..." Snape Nannan murmured to himself, lowering his head in thought.
"Yes, it's not difficult to defeat Voldemort. There are many ways, but I haven't found a way to kill him until now."
"It's not difficult to defeat Voldemort?" Snape looked at the old bee in front of him with a complicated heart, and asked
"Will you be mindful of Quirrell?"
After Dumbledore finally said this sentence, he stood up, came to a cabinet, and took out a stone basin engraved with runic symbols and some other mysterious symbols from it. The basin was filled with a strange metallic texture, and there was a silver-white substance swirling in it. The clouds were both like gas and liquid, changing various shapes.
"In addition, I have made some interesting discoveries, which are also somewhat related to the matter I asked Professor McGonagall just now. I think you must take a look. Maybe you can observe new connections from other angles to explain everything I have discovered."
"I'll go first. This is my memory! It's still very clear."
Dumbledore said to Snape, placing the Pensieve on the table, and he bent over it, with Snape following.
The icy memory drove the two of them down in the darkness... Soon, they came to a familiar scene - the freshman welcome banquet held just now was the time when it was Harry's turn to be sorted into Gryffindor.
Standing in front of Harry, the two of them clearly heard the argument between Harry and the Sorting Hat, and when they heard the faint voice of the Sorting Hat say to Harry, "Don't go to Slytherin, right!"
"Have you made up your mind? You can be great, you know, and in a moment of thought, Slytherin can help you to greatness... Then it's best to go to - Gryffindor (the hat calls out the name)"
Snape looked at Harry's father's face with disgust, and then turned to look closely at his mother's eyes.
He scoffed at Potter's choice not to go to Slytherin, as if in disbelief at Potter's stupidity.
Then he said to Dumbledore impatiently: "Isn't this what just happened? I don't know what you want me to see, is it an extremely stupid choice?"
"What you see is what you want to see, Severstler. Don't let your personal prejudice narrow your vision. It makes sense for Hogwarts to exist in four colleges, which have remained unchanged for hundreds of years. Sometimes I admit that our classification is indeed a bit sloppy, or it can be said that it is a bit behind the times. ... However, expressing our true self. What we hope, want, and choose are far more important than the traits that the outside world thinks we have."
"But Harry's choice is not in the scope of our discussion now, be patient, Snape. You can read on."
According to the original book, from the author's point of view, Dumbledore didn't know that Voldemort was possessed by Quirrell at this time.
Another: Finally, the five chapters after Chapter 10 have been revised. This is the maximum scope of the author's ability. If there are still unsatisfactory places, if the ability can be improved in the future, then make revisions.
I hope everyone will comment more. Within the author's ability and outline, the author will try his best to take time to revise.
I don't know if it is better or worse than before.
