American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker
#264 - The Beginning of Diversity: Visitors from Another World
"Strictly speaking, I'm not too familiar with him. We just fought together," Dr. Banner, in soul form, floated in mid-air, saying to Strange.
"Alright, how did you get here? Why are you trying to steal the Eye of Agamotto?" Strange asked with some interest.
"We used a time machine to return to the time of the Chitauri invasion. As for the Eye of Agamotto? What we want is the Time Stone contained within," Dr. Banner said sincerely, "This is also Strange, your instruction."
"Then you've taken the wrong path," Strange shrugged upon hearing this.
"Wrong path?" Banner looked at Strange in surprise.
"The Chitauri invasion happened at least six years ago," Strange reminded him softly, looking at the surprise on Banner's soul form.
"So, we came to the wrong time period?" Banner was stunned. He suddenly thought, if something happened to them in their time period, would something similar happen to Stark and the others who went to other time periods? The thought sent a chill down Banner's spine.
"I'm afraid it's not just coming to the wrong time period," Strange's voice attracted Banner's attention. Under his horrified gaze, Strange said, "You probably opened the door to the multiverse in some way and came to another parallel universe."
"That's impossible," Dr. Banner shook his head frantically, "Our technology is only based on reversing time and returning to the past."
"Nothing is impossible in this world. Can I ask, what exactly happened in your universe that made you resort to reversing time?" Strange asked curiously.
"Our universe suffered a great disaster. A madman named Thanos gathered the six Infinity Stones and then snapped his fingers, erasing half of all life in the universe and setting a threshold for the life cycle."
"Wait, Thanos?" Strange raised his hand, interrupting Dr. Banner. He frowned and asked.
"Yes, it seems you haven't faced him yet. He is powerful, tyrannical, has countless legions, and subordinates with powerful combat capabilities. We used every means, but still failed to stop him," Dr. Banner's tone was somewhat low. The tragic scenes, even just recalling them in his mind, would keep his mood down for a long time.
"Of course, I know Thanos. I saw the name in a certain notebook, knowing that he is the last remaining spark of a certain extinct race in this universe. What I want to ask is, if the Ancient One, the Sorcerer Supreme, had already left at that time, and even I am not a match for that Thanos, what about Odin, the King of Asgard? And Luke, Luke Field! Didn't they stop Thanos?" Strange asked, frowning. In his opinion, with any one of them present, that Thanos could not have succeeded.
"King Odin died long ago in our world, and the new King of Asgard is Thor. As for Luke, I'm sorry, I've never heard of this name," Dr. Banner answered honestly.
"You've never heard of this name?" Strange narrowed his eyes slightly.
"Yes, I'm sure I haven't heard this name. Is he famous? In your universe?" Dr. Banner asked tentatively.
"Extremely famous," Strange stuffed Banner's soul form into the Hulk's body lying on the ground next to him. The Hulk, who seemed to be asleep, suddenly sat up from the ground, and Dr. Banner once again felt the powerful force surging in his body.
"Can we make a deal and borrow the Infinity Stones from your universe?" Dr. Banner looked eagerly at the Eye of Agamotto hanging on Strange's chest, asking. This time he didn't act rashly. The previous Strange had already proved that he couldn't snatch the Time Stone from his hands by brute force alone. Now he can only rely on his friendship with Strange from another world to negotiate with the Strange here.
"I'm afraid not," Strange shook his head, "The Infinity Stones are the embodiment of the universe's rules, a key to the rules. The duty of the Sorcerer Supreme lineage is to guard this gem and use it to fight against some invading dimensional demons. Without it, the protective barriers here may have problems."
"We promise to return it to you immediately after borrowing it," Dr. Banner assured.
"I still can't agree. I need to be responsible for the stability of my universe," Strange still shook his head. "Moreover, even if I lend you the Time Stone, what about the other Infinity Stones?"
"We know where they are, we can..." Dr. Banner suddenly paused. He suddenly realized a very serious problem.
"See, you've already realized the problem," Strange stepped forward and patted Dr. Banner's shoulder. "This is not your universe. Maybe most of the things that happened here also happened in your universe, but as long as there are slight differences, your experience and memories may become unreliable here."
"You know where the Infinity Stones are on this planet, don't you?" Dr. Banner was silent for a moment, looking at Strange with hope, wanting to get some information from his mouth.
"I do know, and I also know that someone knows more about the whereabouts of the Stones than I do. But believe me, if you plan to try to get them from him, it's wishful thinking. I suggest you stay far away from him," Strange replied.
"Is it someone from Hydra?" Dr. Banner asked, trying to rule out possibilities.
"It's Luke Field, the ruler of Hebron. He has at least two Infinity Stones in his hands," Strange deduced based on his understanding of Luke and the information he obtained from Nick.
It was also because of this that Strange didn't believe that Thanos could collect all six Infinity Stones. Luke would never let anyone take advantage of him. If he lets you take advantage, then he must have big plans. Either recruit people or find someone to take the blame.
Erase about half of the life in the entire universe?
Strange felt that Luke could jump up and fight that Thanos. This is directly destroying his field of leeks! As the distributors of new energy, not to mention Asgard and the Sorcerer Supreme, the other two dimensional demons, Mephisto and Nightmare, might be anxious under Luke's instigation.
"Hebron? Excuse me, is he from outside the planet or...?" Dr. Banner asked to confirm.
"A native of this planet, an inventor like Tony Stark. Of course, compared to Tony's focus on science, Luke's range of involvement is somewhat broad. He combines magic, energy, and technology the best. If you have any trouble, you can't go wrong finding him, provided you can bring him what he needs," Strange grinned, thinking of Luke's consistent style.
"The Space Stone and the Mind Stone are in his hands?" Dr. Banner thought about it and believed that the two Infinity Stones other than the Time Stone must have fallen into the hands of that Luke. In his universe, these two cosmic gems fell into the hands of Asgard and Hydra respectively.
"He used the Mind Stone as a receiver for life's mind and stuffed it into the data dimension. As for the Space Stone, well, how should I put it, it was influenced by his power and became his daughter," Strange shuddered at the thought of Becky's chubby, cute little face, shaking her out of his mind quickly.
"Daughter?" Banner didn't expect to hear such a confusing and bewildered message from Strange.
"Yes, I was also surprised. But the fact is so unexpected. The Space Stone turned from an inanimate object into a life, and became a baby. That's why I said, even if I agree to lend you the Time Stone, you won't be able to collect all the gems here. Because Luke can't lend you his daughter, and he can't let little Becky turn back into the Space Stone," Strange pointed out the key.
If Banner and the others don't give up, they will inevitably come into conflict with Luke. Even if they manage to temporarily hold Luke back, little Becky has enough guardians around her. And Strange can't think of a way for Banner and the others to hold Luke back. After all, the other party combined can't even withstand Thanos.
"Is there really no way?" Even though Banner felt that the hope was not great, he still asked unwillingly before leaving with his partners.
"Perhaps you can take your partners to see Luke, he might provide you with some needed help," Strange thought for a while, thinking that Luke might not refuse to see these visitors from another world. Maybe he can get something from these people?
...
"I didn't know you were so popular in this time period! You even became president!"
Natasha and Captain Rogers desperately dodged the surrounding crowd. Rogers had been signing autographs for a while, but as the crowd grew, Rogers and Natasha were forced to break away from the crowd and wander through the city, winding their way to a relatively remote and sparsely populated place. After glancing around and seeing that the crowd was no longer chasing them, Natasha breathed a sigh of relief and joked to the Captain beside her.
"We came to the wrong place, Stark's technology has a problem," Rogers frowned. If he had only had some doubts when he first arrived, now he was certain of it.
"Oh, I'd like to know, what's wrong with my technology?" A frivolous male voice sounded from high above. Under the gaze of Rogers and Natasha, a golden-red mecha descended from the sky. As it was about to land, it made a nimble turn, kneeling on one knee with a mechanical palm spread out on the ground. Under the gaze of the two, it slowly rose.
The helmet opened, floating away like illusory particles, revealing Tony Stark's familiar face beneath the helmet.
"Tony?" Rogers and Natasha looked at the Mark armor, which used nano-armor technology but had a different style from what they remembered, tentatively confirming.
"Of course, it's me, but why are you pretending to be Steve and Natasha? Is it some kind of magic? Or is it another one of Loki's little tricks?" Tony snorted. Two devices flickering with electricity separated from the armor behind him, hovering behind him, the caliber where the electricity converged vaguely aimed at Rogers and Natasha.
Hearing Tony's words, Rogers and Natasha instantly confirmed that the Tony in front of them was not the Tony they knew, but the Tony of this world.
"I don't know what you're talking about, I'm the real Steve Rogers. You can ask some secrets that only we know and see if I can answer them. Of course, you can ask Natasha too," Rogers raised his hand, wanting to calm Tony down.
"Come on, only Loki would play these retro tricks. You say you're Captain and Natasha, then where are your rings?" Tony sneered, feeling that the two in front of him were fooling his intelligence.
"Rings? What rings?" Rogers and Natasha exchanged glances, feeling puzzled. They found that they couldn't understand Tony's words.
"See, this is the result of not doing your homework. You don't even know what the rings are," Tony shrugged. In fact, the Captain had called him before coming and asked him to come over and take a look at the situation. So, Tony was very sure that the two in front of him were imposters. After seeing that the other party didn't even know what the rings were, the original certainty had turned into firmness.
Whoosh whoosh whoosh.
Several S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, covered in energy suits, appeared one after another around them according to the location given by Tony. Then, under the horrified gaze of Rogers, they floated in mid-air, a foot off the ground, dissipated their energy, and landed on solid ground.
"The Director wants to talk to them," Phil Coulson said to Tony.
"Whatever," Tony closed his helmet, quickly ascended into the sky in a blaze of afterburner, and disappeared into a black dot.
Seeing Tony's disappearing back, Agent Phil put on his signature smile and said to Captain Rogers, "Gentlemen, I hope we don't have to fight."
"Is Nick Fury still the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. now?" Natasha suddenly asked.
"Director Fury has always been the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.," Agent Phil looked at Natasha strangely, not understanding why she would ask this. From his perspective, the two in front of him felt very familiar, giving him the feeling of facing Captain and Natasha, and if they were in a different place, he might not be able to tell them apart in one or two encounters.
"We have urgent business," the Captain took up his shield from behind and held it in his hand.
"It seems we haven't reached an agreement. Go easy, don't hurt them, they should have information that the Director is interested in," Phil took a few steps back, seeing the Captain in a fighting stance, and instructed the elite agents who came with him.
