American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker
#43 - Ina's business philosophy [Part 2]
“This discount is only because you placed a large order for titanium alloy materials with Hyperion before,” Ina Sandra added, under Phil Coulson's gaze that wished he could die.
S.H.I.E.L.D. did place an initial order of about fifty tons with Hyperion, worth approximately several billion dollars! It was this order that made Ina Sandra regard S.H.I.E.L.D. as a gold mine. Now, when it comes to doing business with S.H.I.E.L.D., she is excited and her eyes are full of light. Heaven knows how timely this money is!
At least for the next two or three months, she certainly won't have too much pressure. Two or three months, and once the metal prosthetic limb and new energy source cash cows are launched, maybe she can breathe a little easier? But considering how much money Luke can burn based on how much the company has, Ina isn't sure.
“We can use inferior alloy materials,” Phil Coulson suggested helplessly.
“Hyperion Industries has never had a precedent of using inferior materials in military orders. We use the best technology and materials on the market, which is why our products are so sought after.” Ina Sandra's eyes became a little dangerous: “Do you want to ruin Hyperion's reputation?”
“But…”
Phil Coulson had just opened his mouth when Ina interrupted him forcefully again: “No buts, trust me, they are our creations. When Hyperion manufactures them, it must have measured and considered all aspects to achieve an impeccable balance. Replacing any aspect will have a significant impact on its performance. Unless you want to buy back a large metal toy with a very high damage rate at a high price.”
“As far as I know, the cost of one of Stark's Mark II armor is only about two hundred million dollars,” Phil Coulson retorted, unable to bear it any longer.
“But he doesn't sell his technology to you, does he? Technology is priceless!” Ina Sandra said plausibly, arguing on the basis of reason: “Moreover, Stark's Mark series Iron Man suits also use Hyperion Industries' new titanium alloy series materials. What you're talking about is just the cost price. The material consumption of our Iron Titan series alone is more than twice that of the Mark armor!”
“Damn seller's market,” Phil Coulson sighed in pain. He already felt the serious consequences of being severely assigned and targeted by his own director after this deal was concluded.
“Unique.” Ina Sandra smiled brightly. Although her smile was beautiful, in Phil Coulson's eyes, it was no different from the smile of a devil.
“Okay, okay, let's continue the negotiations.” Facing exclusive technology, what could Phil Coulson do? He could only lie flat. Anyway, there will be further negotiations, so let the S.H.I.E.L.D. negotiators and Hyperion's notoriously argumentative commercial department haggle over it. Maybe there's hope for another discount?
“We don't need its intelligent control system, we have our own system to use,” Phil Coulson requested.
“Of course, that's no problem. But out of kindness, I must solemnly remind you that only Hyperion's intelligent system can perfectly adapt and exert their full performance. If there are failures in the future due to system problems, Hyperion will not bear any responsibility.” Ina Sandra nodded in agreement while quickly adding a patch.
“Okay. If you are willing to sell the matching intelligent system code…”
“I'm sorry, because it involves Hyperion White Queen's core secrets, this request cannot be granted.” Ina rejected his proposal without letting Phil Coulson finish speaking. “Similarly, we will not reduce the corresponding price attached to the intelligent system.”
“Then the next question, what energy source does it use? High-density batteries? Or something similar to Tony Stark's arc reactor technology?” Phil Coulson's expression became much more serious when he mentioned this question.
Upon hearing this, Ina Sandra once again put on a bright smile that chilled Phil Coulson to the bone: “Diesel!”
“I'm sorry, Miss Sandra, I think there's something wrong with my ears. Could you repeat what you said earlier?” Phil Coulson looked dazed, his face full of disbelief with an expression of “Are you kidding me?”
“Diesel powered,” Ina repeated happily.
“Diesel, is it the diesel I'm thinking of?” Phil Coulson looked blankly at the two metal giants still active on the field, still clinging to a glimmer of hope in his heart, and asked for confirmation, unwilling to give up.
“That's right, it's the kind you're thinking of.” Ina gave Coulson's request for confirmation a very affirmative answer.
“Please don't joke with me, Miss Sandra.” Phil Coulson pointed to the thing on the field: “Even if I don't understand technology, I know that diesel as energy is difficult to use on this thing, right? You might as well say it's some kind of high-density battery produced in the Hyperion laboratory!”
Luke Field quietly hid a little further away. He could understand Coulson's despair at this moment, but what could he do? Who told him to get interested and spend money to tinker out the technology to miniaturize Crimson Typhoon's diesel engine? He originally planned to keep it as a souvenir, and after he finished it, he threw it into Hyperion White Queen's technology storage.
If Ina hadn't dug it out, Luke would have almost forgotten about this technology.
At Ina's strong request, the first generation of mass-produced Iron Titan type Iron Man armor used diesel as energy. Although Hyperion had better energy technology and already had at least two generations of technology reserves, in Ina's words, she felt a heartache seeing a new technology that had never been profitable being eliminated.
Anyway, it's an exclusive deal now, so let's just use it for now. When there are competitors in the future, we can upgrade it, and we can directly eliminate the diesel-powered Iron Titan and sell a wave of new technology! If that doesn't work, we can take other paths, modify it again, and authorize or sell it to some car companies or oil tycoons.
“Trust me, this is Hyperion Industries' latest diesel energy technology. Although it's not as good as Stark's arc reactor, it's no problem to use it to drive this guy at full power for a few hours of combat. Replenishment is also quite convenient.” Ina Sandra's words once again struck Phil Coulson speechless.
Because that was the truth. Leaving aside the diesel drive, this iron guy did look pretty good. The energy was still maintained at over eighty percent. But no matter what, how he thought about it, diesel drive was too absurd!
It was like a mothership that could travel through interstellar space was not using some kind of dark matter nuclear fusion, but oil, an energy source that should have been eliminated in interstellar technology, giving people a sense of错愕.
