#40 - Temple Quests

Chapter 40: Temple Missions

Having faith in a deity finally allowed Allen to quantify his own strength. When he silently recited the name of the Oak Father, a thought naturally arose in his mind: Level 8 Warrior / Level 1 Berserker, Feats: Two-Weapon Fighting, Alertness, Darkvision, Keen Scent, Improved Critical.

Allen, who was about to step into the level 10 threshold, could be considered a mid-level combat professional in this world. The quantified levels also allowed Allen to finally understand his specific strength, so as to better make battle judgments.

"Priest, besides healing the injuries of believers, does the temple have other items or services for believers?"

Regis had previously told Allen that in order to maintain expenses, the temple, while not forcing believers to actively offer sacrifices or gold coins, would still conduct necessary equivalent exchanges. When performing divine spells for believers, they would charge corresponding rewards according to the spell's level and complexity. For example, the gold coin Allen offered earlier was the price for the priest to cast the divine spell.

Besides these, Regis had also introduced that various temples would have some divine items or other special products for sale to believers, with each place producing different things. Allen, who currently had some money in hand, wanted to inquire if the temple had any other items or knowledge for sale.

For this trip to see the outside world, Allen had secretly brought out most of the clan's gold and silver wealth. Originally, it was intended to purchase the required food, but after communicating with Regis, Allen had other plans.

Food had always been the greatest pursuit of the Green Field Tribe. Allen was naturally no exception, but after initially experiencing the wonderful world outside, Allen realized that simply stockpiling food was not a foolproof plan. The nearby, powerful Kobold tribe could discover and invade the Green Field Tribe at any time. No matter how much food there was, without the strength to protect it, it would only be making wedding clothes for others.

"What do you want to buy?"

Priest Cley raised his head, not finding Allen's inquiry strange.

"Besides treating the injuries of believers, the temple also sells divine spells and magic scrolls. As long as you can pay the price, we can prepare even 7th-level scrolls for you; of course, for warriors like you, we also have enchanted armor and weapons that directly enhance combat strength for sale. The divine spells and magic on them are all selected for combat, definitely worth the price."

"If you can pay a sufficient price and your contribution to the temple reaches the standard, we can also initiate a divine revelation, where the deity bestows upon you relevant combat skills and feats: Weapon Focus, Fleet of Foot, Endurance, Acrobatic… These skills and feats will definitely help you gain the upper hand in battle and achieve victory."

Allen only half-understood Priest Cley's words. Shouldn't combat skills and feats be something individuals were born with? Could they be bestowed by a deity?

However, Allen himself could somewhat appreciate the importance of feats. In these short few months, he had changed several weapons, but each time he changed weapons, he didn't seem to feel much unfamiliarity in using them. Especially weapons like steel axes, two-handed hammers, and two-handed greatswords, he could use them to spar with Regis for a few days and hold his own without falling too far behind.

Regis had said that Allen definitely had a feat in using weapons, and now it seemed that was indeed the case.

"Temple contribution? How is that obtained?"

"It's very simple. You only need to accept deity missions from us, complete them, and report back to us. After obtaining divine verification, you can obtain temple contribution according to the mission's difficulty."

The deities in the Feywild Plane each have their own believers, which naturally leads to countless disputes. In situations where the deities cannot descend from their divine kingdoms into the real world, the conflicts and problems arising from the deities vying for believers and maintaining authority need to be completed by their believers to consolidate and stabilize their position, thereby continuing to increase their divine rank.

"Oh, like mercenary guilds accepting protection and challenge missions?"

"Yes, almost, but mercenary guilds are paid with gold and silver wealth, while our temple provides temple contribution only."

Priest Cley nodded, then frowned as he looked at Allen: "To be honest, with your current strength and equipment, even the lowest-level missions of the temple are almost impossible for you to complete. You should go back and continue to hone your skills and increase your strength."

When casting a divine spell to accept Allen as a believer, Cley could roughly estimate the other party's ability through the deity's divine power. How could a mere professional who had just advanced to Berserker be a match for the temple's mission targets—evil cultists, abyssal demons, and devils? Therefore, Cley kindly reminded this newly joined goblin of the bear.

"Oh, that's a pity."

Allen replied with regret, then continued to ask unwillingly: "I currently have 100, no, 200 gold coins. I wonder what items I can purchase? Can I buy a inheritance knowledge for an advanced class?"

"Heh heh, do you think the knowledge of advanced classes is so cheap? To obtain the inheritance knowledge of an advanced class, even the most ordinary Berserker inheritance knowledge requires 150 points of temple contribution. Calculating an average of 5 contribution points per temple mission, you would need to complete at least 30 missions to apply for a set of advanced class inheritance knowledge."

Cley smiled and sarcastically answered Allen's question: "However, 200 gold coins can buy 20-30 3rd-level scrolls, or a set of first-level enchanted armor. I wonder if you want to buy any?"

"Then forget it."

Allen hesitated for a moment, and finally gritted his teeth and refused. Allen had already seen the power of magic scrolls. If used with suitable timing and location, the effect could be enough to sway the outcome of a small-scale battle. However, Allen knew that he lacked magical knowledge. He only knew a few spells and divine spells, and he had no basis for using scrolls to assist in combat.

As for a so-called enchanted armor, it should be a precious protective equipment. As a qualified wilderness creature, naturally improving one's own strength was the top priority. However, having learned the lesson of not knowing how to hide his abilities, he challenged the former clan leader, Claw, with an ordinary longsword before being fully prepared. Although he barely won, Allen still felt it was too risky after secretly reflecting on it.

Therefore, he now felt that only after his own strength had reached a certain stage could he equip some valuable weapons and equipment that provided a significant boost. This should be a mutually reinforcing state. After witnessing the strength of Thunder Town, Allen, who was quite complacent as the strongest member of the Green Field Tribe, had restrained his pride and re-examined this world with a humble attitude.

Especially after staying in Thunder Town and Thorn Fort for these days, Allen had a fundamental understanding of the importance of gold coins. Although he had not fully mastered the value of goods, he, being cautious, had begun to cherish the gold and silver coins in his hand. Unless necessary, he would not easily use this precious and non-renewable wealth.

"However, I will bring a few clansmen over later, and I will have to trouble Priest Cley to preside over the joining ceremony for them."

"That's no problem, I welcome new converts with open arms!"

Priest Cley was overjoyed and immediately expressed his stance.
