#39 - Father of Oak
Chapter 39 The Father of Oak
The Father of Oak, the absolute pillar deity of the Temple of Nature, embraces all things. He protects the myriad beings of the Fayman plane like a benevolent father, maintaining the balance of nature.
In fact, from the moment Allen first saw the Oak Besermer, he had developed awe for the oak tree. The natural law of survival of the fittest in the wilderness was already ingrained in his bones. Even though Phili and the others thought highly of Allen, believing that he possessed intelligence different from that of wilderness creatures, in his heart, his respect for the strong had never changed.
The powerful divine power of the Father of Oak, a strong presence among countless deities, was what Allen valued. As for the Father of Oak's authority and divine duty, Allen paid less attention. Anyway, he didn't have much faith to offer the Father of Oak; all he needed was a deity in name to protect him and the Green Field Tribe.
Of course, according to Regis, there were other powerful deities, priests, and pastors spreading their faith in the dark corners of Thornsburg. Although they couldn't build temples in Thornsburg, their priests and clergy would not hesitate to absorb a believer if they were willing. If Allen was willing to have ten of his tribesmen believe in a certain deity together, it would naturally open the door to more deities.
Allen was a thorough pragmatist. The biggest factor in his choice of deity was to understand his own strength assessment. As for Regis's so-called Wall of the Faithless, those problems that would only appear after death were not something Allen had the foresight to imagine now.
The more Allen moved towards the location of the Oak Besermer's main body, the heavier his mood became. At this time, he could no longer see most of Besermer's trunk, like a gray-white, wide tree body piercing straight into the sky, which Allen estimated to be at least 300 meters in diameter. Looking up along the trunk for only a few tens of meters, the branching canopy was like朵朵 green clouds, covering the entire ancient tree, making it impossible to see the whole picture.
The Temple of the Father of Oak was inside the tree body of the Oak Besermer. When Allen spent more than one magic hour walking to the center of Thornsburg and arriving in front of the solid tree body of the Oak Besermer, a temple supported by the intertwined roots of the Oak Besermer, shaped like an octopus arching on the ground, came into Allen's view.
There were no lights shining in the temple, but Allen still felt that this magnificent temple was full of light, yet not too dazzling.
There were no other sculptures in the temple, only an evergreen oak tree growing on an isolated island of only ten square meters, surrounded by a central fountain. Countless believers of the Father of Oak walked slowly around the fountain, or simply stood in front of the fountain, closing their eyes and praying to the Father of Oak.
"Respected priest, I am a bear goblin from the Mansha Wilderness, and I want to seek the protection of the Father of Oak and listen to His teachings. I wonder if it is possible?"
Allen had already inquired about the faith of the temple. At this time, he approached an elf wearing a grass-green robe with a badge of a verdant oak leaf embroidered on his chest, and tried his best to put on a kind expression to strike up a conversation.
"Lost lamb, may the light of my Lord illuminate your path forward."
The elf who was approached was indeed as Regis had described, always treating believers who were devoted to the Father of Oak kindly, without the arrogance and indifference of other elves.
"My Lord treats all creatures who are devoted to nature with kindness, protecting their survival. Child of nature, what is your name?"
"Reporting to the priest, my name is Allen Witt."
Witt was Allen's mother's surname. Because he didn't know who his father was, and because of the chaotic and ignorant heritage of the bear goblins themselves, Lisa directly let Allen take her surname back then.
"Lost lamb, have you considered carefully whether to believe in my Lord - the Guardian of Nature, the Father of Oak?"
"I am sure."
"… …"
After a long series of inquiries, the temple priest always needed to understand the general origin of the other party when accepting believers. Allen patiently answered the other party's questions one by one.
"Close your eyes and feel the divine power of my Lord. He will be watching you in the kingdom of God, supervising your every move. Anyone who violates my Lord's instructions will be punished by my Lord. Those who uphold my Lord's words and deeds with piety will be favored by my Lord."
Absorbing believers was actually very simple. The temple clergy and priests injected the divine power of the deity into the believer's body, resonating with the deity's sculpture and belief carrier enshrined in the temple, so that a trace of the deity's gaze in the kingdom of God could be connected to mark the believer. As for Allen's purpose of believing in the deity, quantifying his own strength was a by-product of the deity marking believers. The stronger the believer, the more attention he would naturally receive from the deity, wouldn't he?
The temple priest muttered words that Allen couldn't understand. These were all ancient High Elven languages. Allen saw the wooden hammer in the priest's hand emit a soft halo, and as the other party pointed his arm, it immediately enveloped Allen, who had closed his eyes and concentrated on reciting the name of the Father of Oak.
This was a divine spell to investigate Allen's camp attributes, and it also had the effect of treating minor injuries. Allen only felt a burst of relaxation all over his body, as if he was soaking in warm water. While many worries disappeared, a vast and unpredictable divine power with a bit of natural freshness appeared in the depths of Allen's mind. An oak tree that Allen could no longer describe suddenly occupied Allen's entire thinking body, just like an ant looking up at an ancient dragon, and in a trance, Allen only remembered reciting the name of the Father of Oak desperately.
The divine power came and went quickly, but in Allen's thinking space, this short divine power of no more than one magic second seemed as long as a lifetime. When Allen regained himself, he heard the voice of the temple priest.
"Okay, from now on, you are the lamb of my Lord. I hope you will keep the balance of nature in mind, find the destroyers of nature in the darkness, and give them the wrath from my Lord!"
"Yes."
Allen was now truly convinced. The Father of Oak's mere trace of divine thought had completely crushed Allen, making him unable to resist at all. He couldn't even imagine what a shocking scene it would be if the oak tree that seemed to fill the entire universe descended on the Fayman plane.
"Newborn lamb, remember to sincerely offer sacrifices to my Lord."
Although the priest was amiable, this sentence made his great figure depreciate a bit.
Fortunately, Allen had already inquired about the rules, and he didn't hesitate at this time. He took out a gold coin from his pocket and respectfully handed it to the priest.
After the priest took the gold coin, it disappeared between his hands, and he became the priest who seemed not to eat the fireworks of the world again.
"Very good. In the future, if you are injured, poisoned, or lose limbs in battle, you can come to me. My name is Clay Vonbury, an 8th-level priest/5th-level natural prayer caster. As long as you still have a breath, I can save you from the hands of the god of death. Of course, as a shepherd of God, my Lord's divine power is not easy to come by, and each application requires an equivalent offering as a reward. Remember to prepare the necessary sacrifices when asking for treatment."
"Yes."
