Chapter 5 Crisis

Allen wasn't ready to challenge Split Claw yet, partly because he was wary of Split Claw's powerful individual strength, but also because he worried that his own wolf-tooth club wouldn't be able to withstand the heavy steel axe Split Claw wielded. In this world where extraordinary abilities existed, whether a warrior possessed a fine weapon made a world of difference in their combat effectiveness.

Therefore, after seizing the longsword, Allen discarded his wolf-tooth club without a second thought, equipping himself with the fine steel longsword instead.

However, when he strutted into the tribe with the longsword, the unique gleam of the fine steel blade immediately attracted the attention of the other warriors in the Green Field Tribe. Everyone revealed a greedy look, and many were already itching to snatch it directly.

"Longsword, mine, Allen, give me."

Sure enough, a strong hobgoblin with a long scar on his cheek stepped out from the tribe, pointing at the longsword on Allen's waist and threatening him fiercely.

"Oh, you want this longsword? You can try!"

Allen's face darkened, his right hand already reaching for the hilt of the sword, staring directly at this rare, capable warrior in the tribe.

"Ha!"

Seeing Allen disregard his demand, the scar-faced hobgoblin flew into a rage. Ignoring everything else, he immediately brandished the spear in his hand and thrust it towards Allen.

Having sensed the covetous gazes of the tribe members, Allen already knew that things wouldn't end peacefully today. He had resolved to give the first one to jump out a harsh lesson, so as to quell the greed of the other tribe members and protect his wealth.

As soon as the opponent made a move, Allen no longer hesitated. The longsword at his waist flashed like lightning, directly holding up the spear that the scar-faced hobgoblin thrust over. The vast difference in strength not only deflected the scar-faced hobgoblin's spear on the spot but also left a deep gash on the ironwood shaft. Waving the longsword upwards, Allen simultaneously gripped his right hand with his left, using both hands to drive the strength of his shoulders and arms, bringing the sword down fiercely on the scar-faced hobgoblin. A fierce killing intent leaped onto Allen's rather youthful face.

The scar-faced hobgoblin hadn't even recovered from the shock of realizing that his strength was inferior to Allen's, and he didn't have time to retract his spear to parry Allen's attack. It wasn't until the blade of the longsword was less than five inches from the top of his head that his face was filled with panic and despair. His originally green face was particularly colorful at this moment, turning ashen as he blankly awaited the arrival of death.

Allen only wanted to establish his authority and hadn't thought about taking the scar-faced hobgoblin's life directly. Seeing that the other party was so frightened that he didn't make any further moves, the longsword that was originally aimed straight down veered to the side. However, because he couldn't freely control his strength, the longsword that was swung at the last minute avoided the scar-faced hobgoblin's vitals, but still cut a deep, bone-deep wound on the other party's left shoulder, causing the scar-faced hobgoblin to let out a miserable scream.

No one had expected that the usually unassuming and well-behaved little hobgoblin would burst out with such powerful strength when faced with a threat. The other restless hobgoblins in the tribal camp were immediately startled, thinking that if they had been the first to jump out and provoke Allen, it would be the scar-faced hobgoblin lying on the ground groaning in pain.

Everyone withdrew their unkind gazes, and when they looked at Allen again, there was more than a hint of fear, along with some respect and admiration. This was the reality of the wilderness tribe, where the strong were respected.

As for the loser who was now lying on the ground groaning in pain, no one cared about him anymore. Perhaps some people were already planning to take advantage of the other party's injury to gain some benefits.

"You're courting death!"

A vigorous voice came from the cave in the central area of the tribe, followed by a hobgoblin with only one right eye, the left eye socket empty. He wore a one-piece leather armor and dragged a dark steel axe in his hand. It was Chief Split Claw, who had ruled the Green Field Tribe for nearly 20 years.

As early as when the dispute first showed signs, Split Claw, who was hiding in the depths of the cave to escape the summer heat, noticed the commotion in the tribe. When he saw that the target at the center of the commotion was Allen, a young member of the tribe, swaggering around with a longsword he didn't know where he got, Split Claw didn't appear in front of the public immediately to suppress the dispute. Instead, he delayed the time for the gathering, wanting to see how Allen, this little fellow from the tribe, would face the threats and difficulties of the elders.

Having lived for 30 years, Split Claw was now facing the same crisis as Man Ya, the chief of the neighboring Jackal Bonefire Tribe. Their bodies would soon begin to decline slowly. Faced with the reality of the wilderness tribe's survival of the fittest, Split Claw had to carefully guard against any warrior in the tribe who might threaten his ruling position, especially those new-generation faces, full of ambition to climb up and change the status quo, and possibly possessing all kinds of incredible talents.

Split Claw couldn't guarantee that the gods in the sky wouldn't suddenly have a whim and bestow good luck on some hobgoblin lucky one, allowing him to become some kind of talented person with enough strength to challenge him. On the other hand, the hobgoblins who had already come of age knew each other well, and the gods would most likely not bestow luck on such people with no future, posing less of a threat to him.

Allen's usual low-key behavior had caused Split Claw to completely ignore this cunning little fellow. Most of the hobgoblins in the tribe without strength were like this, but he didn't expect that today Split Claw would discover that Allen's low-key behavior hid great strength, enough to defeat and seriously injure an elite warrior in the tribe with one blow.

"Do you want to die? Infighting is not allowed in the village!"

A stern voice was uttered from Split Claw's mouth, but his eyes were fixed on Allen, his fierce gaze like bone-eroding leeches, not letting go of the little fellow's every move.

"Respected Chieftain, I didn't start this. Everyone can testify to that. I was just defending myself."

Allen sighed inwardly, but a friendly smile reappeared on his face as he explained with an innocent look.

"Hand over the longsword in your hand as punishment, or you will face the wrath of me, your leader, that you have ignited!"

Faced with a threat, even if it was only a possible threat, Split Claw would not be lenient in the slightest. He immediately put on the airs of a chieftain, pointing to the longsword in Allen's hand and issuing an order.

"Impossible!"

Allen immediately refused without hesitation, his face gradually darkening.

"Hmph, guards, seize this fellow who is provoking the chieftain! The bravest warrior will receive the longsword in his hand."

Seeing that Allen didn't obey his orders, Split Claw rolled his eyes and came up with a plan, shouting loudly at the surrounding tribesmen.

The desire that had been suppressed by Allen's powerful strength and fierce methods resurfaced in the eyes of the hobgoblins. Allen saw out of the corner of his eye that some people in the corner had already begun to collude and instigate, quietly sneaking behind him, wanting to play a sneak attack.

Allen still didn't expect that Split Claw, the chieftain, would be so decisive. When he discovered the danger that threatened his existence, he didn't hesitate to take action. If he didn't come up with a countermeasure now, his fate would probably not be much better than that of Da Shan, the scar-faced hobgoblin, who was lying on the ground groaning in pain.
