Green Monster Epic

#6 - challenge

“Chieftain Claw Ripper, I, Allen, challenge you today.”

Seeing that the situation was about to spiral out of control, Allen couldn't bother calculating gains or losses. He didn't retract the longsword from his waist, but raised it, the tip pointing directly at Claw Ripper, the current chieftain of the Green Wilderness Tribe, who was staring at him, awaiting the other's response.

Claw Ripper hadn't expected Allen's counterattack to be so fierce. For many years, under his strong and ruthless methods of suppression, no one dared to provoke his authority. The last time a Bear Goblin challenged his position was ten years ago, and Claw Ripper remembered that the challenger seemed to have been hacked into seven pieces by him, leaving the opponent no chance of survival, which was why he had ten years of peaceful days.

Before Claw Ripper could respond, the tribesmen in the tribe, who were never ones to shy away from a good show, started to clamor as soon as Allen's challenge declaration was made: “Duel, duel!!”

“Claw Ripper!! Claw Ripper!!”

“Allen!! Allen!!”

On the barren land, the tribesmen struggled to survive, but this did not prevent everyone from enjoying a feast of slaughter in spirit. Moreover, the chieftain of a tribe must be strong in combat, otherwise, he would not be able to protect the tribesmen's safety when fighting with other tribes or foreign enemies. Therefore, everyone welcomed the long-awaited chieftain challenge.

Claw Ripper looked around, and his usual powerful deterrent force was not very effective at this time. Although the cheers weakened wherever his gaze fell, the fading sounds rose again when his gaze turned elsewhere, filled with the tribesmen's excitement.

“Very well, I, Claw Ripper of the Green Wilderness Tribe, accept your challenge.”

There was no turning back. The expression on Claw Ripper's face was slightly frustrated, but he was not too worried. He was still very confident in his strength. As for the combat power Allen had just displayed, perhaps it was stronger than the other warriors in the tribe, but Claw Ripper, who was experienced in battle, still keenly saw that Dasha's defeat was more due to his carelessness, caught off guard by Allen.

“But I must remind you, Allen, this challenge you initiated will be an unimaginable battle of life and death. I will use your blood to wash away your offense against me.”

Claw Ripper easily raised the heavy steel axe with one hand, then slammed it to the ground. The axe face, a foot wide, sank straight into the earth, countless gravel flying up, creating a considerable momentum, and regaining the attention of the tribesmen.

The tribesmen automatically cleared the open space in the center of the camp, surrounding Claw Ripper and Allen, the two duelists, in the middle. When the news of the duel spread throughout the tribe, all the tribesmen put down their work, including the young and ignorant little Bear Goblins, who ran over with curious eyes, following the adults to watch, shouting and clamoring.

Allen clenched his left hand tightly on the back of his right hand, causing the back of his hand to appear pale due to excessive force. He was forced to initiate this duel on a whim, otherwise, if he really allowed Claw Ripper to force him to hand over the longsword he had just obtained, and then gradually force him out of the tribe, weakening his threat to the other party's position, although he could barely survive for a while, it would only be a slow death.

Anyway, from the moment Allen obtained the longsword, he never thought of handing it over to others. The selfish nature of the wilderness people was fully displayed in him, without any intention of considering long-term plans.

“Huff, huff, huff!”

The steel axe tore through the air in Claw Ripper's hand, making a whistling sound. In battle mode, Claw Ripper's eyes could not tolerate anything other than deep killing intent.

Before Allen could react, Claw Ripper's calf bent slightly and then straightened, the muscles exploding with powerful force, driving Claw Ripper's body to fly towards Allen, who was ten steps away. When he reached Allen, the steel axe in his hand had just reached its peak, and the cold wind from the opponent's powerful downward chop made Allen's forehead feel icy cold.

Allen stared intently at Claw Ripper's movements, his feet moving lightly, taking a step to the right, narrowly dodging Claw Ripper's downward chop. Unexpectedly, under such inertia, Claw Ripper managed to change the vertically smashed steel axe to swing in his own direction in a short moment, as if a person had drawn a right angle in the air, which showed Claw Ripper's muscle control and physical fitness as the strongest in the Green Wilderness Tribe.

“Clang!!”

Allen hastily held the longsword horizontally, blocking Claw Ripper's powerful blow. The thick longsword blade bent into a crescent moon under the force. Taking advantage of the rebound, Allen once again pulled away from Claw Ripper, while the longsword in his hand took advantage of the momentum to draw a sword flower, stabbing straight towards Claw Ripper's neck. At this time, Claw Ripper, seized the kinetic energy when the steel axe was bounced away by the longsword, and drew a large circle behind him, his two hands intersecting behind his back, and without any extra movements, he launched another heavy horizontal chop.

Allen did not retreat but advanced, taking advantage of the less than half-second interval of Claw Ripper's swing, and rushed straight into Claw Ripper's arms along with the sword's momentum. Compared to Claw Ripper's usual contempt for Allen, Allen had long regarded Claw Ripper as his opponent, secretly observing Claw Ripper's combat habits on weekdays, and imagining in his mind how to deal with him when facing him as an enemy.

Claw Ripper's advantage was his strong arm strength and the toughness of his muscles and bones, which allowed him to forcefully change the trajectory of his weapon's swing, always catching opponents who were not familiar with his movements off guard; and his weakness was also obvious, that was, because he was too concerned about the exercise of muscles and bones, the bulging muscles made Claw Ripper look far stronger than ordinary Bear Goblins, but also greatly reduced his flexibility.

And this was the opportunity that Allen had thought of to successfully challenge Claw Ripper through long-term observation.

Before he could even complete his moves, facing the longsword stabbing straight at his neck, Claw Ripper turned over and leaned back, while his big hand slid through the middle of the axe handle, then twisted his wrist, drawing an axe shield in front of him, barely blocking Allen's subsequent movements. At the same time, the axe shadow intersected with the longsword blade, deflecting it. After a crisp metallic collision, Allen and Claw Ripper separated again, re-accumulating momentum to prepare for the next attack.

The seemingly complicated sparring actions were actually just a brief moment in the eyes of the Bear Goblin crowd. Many viewers with poor eyesight had not even figured out what was going on, and the first wave of probing had already come to an end.

Claw Ripper had already thought that he had paid enough attention to this challenger, but he did not expect that this young man was far more difficult to deal with than he had imagined. The routines he had accumulated and honed in countless battles had failed for the first time on an opponent, and he had not even been able to leave a scar on the opponent.

Allen was also secretly shocked. The power contained in Claw Ripper's body erupted on him, which was quite different from the results he had observed and analyzed from the sidelines. His fully charged attack was easily resolved by the other party, making Allen feel somewhat frustrated.
