Hogwarts: I will not become the Dark Lord

#271 - Jerry: My promise...to keep it!

On a desolate island, surrounded by towering cliffs, the ink-black sea was like an abyss that devoured everything, isolating it from the world.

Suddenly, the sound of wind being cut through the air rang out, followed by two figures appearing on the island.

“Your Eminence, where exactly is this?” Catherine asked in astonishment, having just been instantly transported from a stormy and rainy night to this sunny island. Despite crossing such a vast distance, she hadn't felt a single ripple of magic.

“It seems you don't know,” Jerry said, looking at Catherine, who was gazing around with a scrutinizing gaze. “Back then, it was you who sent me here.”

“Us?” Catherine's face was filled with confusion.

“I was able to come here because of it.” Jerry held out his hand, revealing a golden ring on his left finger, showing it to Catherine. “This ring has been hidden beneath the skin of my finger for many years. Whenever I need it, it can bring me back to this island. Until last year, I discovered that even the magic of Hogwarts Castle couldn't stop me from using it to travel.”

“That is a magic ring that belongs only to Your Eminence. How could we possibly understand its mysteries!” Catherine shook her head gently, strolling casually around the island.

“Don't waste your time, there's nothing here. Come with me!” Jerry interrupted her exploration, took her hand, and instantly the surrounding scenery began to spin and blur. When the surroundings became clear again, Catherine found herself on the summit of the island.

The scene at the summit was exactly the same as when Jerry first arrived. The ruins and collapsed stone pillars were still scattered, bearing the marks of history. The difference was that some furniture was placed on a flat area next to them. Catherine looked at the sofas and tables in front of her, feeling a sense of familiarity. Wasn't this stuff from the Slytherin common room! Snape used to rage at the students for things often disappearing from the common room! She never imagined that Jerry had moved them here.

“Give me your ring.” Jerry held out his hand to Catherine.

Without the slightest hesitation, Catherine unfastened the necklace with the silver-white ring from her neck and gently placed it in Jerry's palm.

Jerry wanted to see if the mysterious stone tablet that had trapped him last time would appear again if he used Catherine's ring this time.

“Your Eminence, I really don't know anything about this island.” Catherine turned her gaze to the turbulent sea surrounding the island, shook her head, and revealed a hint of confusion.

“This island is indeed full of strangeness, but countless strange things have happened to me, so the existence of this island doesn't seem so strange in comparison.” Jerry took a deep breath, trying to calm the fluctuations in his heart. “Catherine, please keep this a secret. Besides me, you are the first person to know about and set foot on this island.”

“Is that so?” Catherine looked at Jerry, the corners of her mouth slightly raised, revealing a faint smile. “Not even Granger knows?”

Jerry's hand holding Catherine's ring suddenly paused, and he turned his head to give her an awkward smile, shaking his head. He hadn't expected Catherine to suddenly mention Hermione, it seemed she wasn't completely indifferent to certain things.

At the summit, Jerry held the ring in his hand and waited quietly for a long time, but there was still no sign of any movement around him. He turned to look at Catherine, signaling her to try wearing the ring as well, but after waiting for a while, it was still fruitless. Jerry had no choice but to give up, it seemed that the stone tablet would not appear again.

“Your Eminence, is something wrong?” Catherine asked curiously, sensing that Jerry seemed a little disappointed.

“It's nothing!” Jerry shook his head. “Let's go back first, the Aurors of the Magical Congress of the United States must be very busy during this time!”

“Your Eminence, Miss Ferres, you two are finally back!” After hearing Jerry and Catherine's footsteps in the distance, Andrew Albert immediately greeted them. “Deputy Commander Canterbury is here!”

“I know, where is he now?” Jerry put down the dry towel he had just used to wipe his hair, his brow furrowed slightly.

“I arranged for him to wait for you in the study behind.”

Jerry nodded, not asking any further questions. After exchanging a glance with Catherine, the two quickly walked towards the study.

“I thought you had returned to the organization, Canterbury!” Jerry smiled when he saw Canterbury, who was waiting impatiently on the sofa.

Canterbury stood up abruptly, his black robes swirling with his movements, like a storm about to erupt.

“I am not here representing the Department of Magical Law Enforcement this time,” Canterbury almost squeezed these words out from between his teeth, his sharp gaze like two sharp blades, piercing straight at Jerry. “Archbishop Ferres's personal request was for me to protect and assist Your Eminence's actions, but it seems that you don't need my help!”

“You know everything?” Jerry raised his eyebrows in feigned surprise, but the corners of his mouth couldn't help but curl up slightly, seemingly amused by Canterbury's anger.

“Your actions have caused quite a stir!” Canterbury heavily struck the floor with the black cane in his hand, making a dull thud. “A street near the Third Archbishop's manor residence was blown up by him, and the Aurors are looking for him!”

“Canterbury, watch your words!” Catherine's tone carried a hint of dissatisfaction, while Jerry gently patted the back of her hand, signaling her not to worry too much.

“Alright, alright, Your Eminence, I was rude just now!” Canterbury took a deep breath, trying to suppress his anger, but his voice was still full of pressure. “But I don't understand, why did you do this?”

“In the future, you will become the supreme leader of our apostles, reigning over the world, and the archbishops will become your most capable assistants, helping you build a new world, but now…” Canterbury said, shaking his head in disbelief, as if unable to understand Jerry's actions.

The atmosphere in the room suddenly solidified, and the smile on Jerry's face gradually disappeared. He was silent for a moment, and the only sound in the room was Canterbury's heavy breathing.

“You're right, I was indeed impulsive this time!” After a moment of silence, Jerry's answer surprised everyone in the room. He lowered his head, like a child who had made a mistake, his tone carrying a hint of remorse.

Jerry looked at the unfamiliar face in the newspaper, a cold smile creeping onto his lips, 'They've found a scapegoat!'

Jerry didn't pay much attention to these reports; the next step was a matter between this father and son!

Late at night, the manor's hall was silent, with only the flames of the candles flickering slightly.

Canterbury sat alone in the hall, waiting for Catherine's arrival.

Soon after, Catherine entered the hall, a hint of impatience on her face.

"It's so late, what do you need me for?" Catherine's tone carried obvious questions and a hint of displeasure.

"Miss Phares, you should understand that my agreeing to the Archbishop's request to come to America was based on several considerations.

Although there's a difference in our status, you should know that your father took great care of me when he was alive.

Therefore, today I feel I must remind you of some things, things that concern your future!"

"Speak, I'm listening," Catherine replied calmly.

Canterbury took a deep breath, his expression solemn, and said, "Miss Catherine, regarding Jerry Green, I believe you need to pay extra attention, even be wary of him, otherwise I fear you'll be left with nothing after being deceived by him!"

"Preposterous!" Catherine suddenly raised her head, her eyes flashing with anger as she glared at Canterbury, "Do you know what you're saying?"

"As a member of the Enforcement Squad, I'm more aware of the Apostles' laws than any other member," Canterbury was not swayed by Catherine's anger.

"I know what I just said may sound blasphemous, but I must remind you.

Jerry Green is indeed excellent; I admit Dumbledore and Grindelwald have trained him well, but his ambition has also been amplified infinitely by the two of them!"

Catherine's face stiffened slightly as she looked at Canterbury's earnest face, and a complex emotion welled up in her heart.

"Right now, Jerry Green is like a young dragon whose scales haven't fully grown; once he reaches adulthood, no one will be able to stop him, and anyone who poses a threat to him will die, including the Phares family!" Canterbury continued.

"Miss Catherine, you should understand that the Slytherin house doesn't produce brave lions, only snakes filled with ambition.

Jerry Green's style is extremely cautious, so he would never rashly carry out the final Ascension Ritual without absolute certainty.

However, his pursuit of power will inevitably drive him to complete this ritual and become the master of the world."

"Therefore, before the Ascension Ritual, he will go all out and even resort to any means to control the Apostles; anyone or any family that might pose a threat to him will become his target for elimination.

Miss Catherine, you should be well aware that, apart from the Fourth Archbishop, the three families, including the Archbishop, have controlled the Apostles organization for thousands of years…"

"Regarding the events of this period, I think you should also be very clear that all of Jerry Green's plans are aimed at the people around the Third Archbishop, perhaps because he knows he doesn't yet have the ability to kill the Third Archbishop, or perhaps you could say it's to attack his heart, but more importantly, he's testing, testing the Second Archbishop's reaction, and also testing the Archbishop's bottom line."

"Miss Phares, I have given you my personal advice; whether you listen or not is up to you.

I think you and the Archbishop should first think about what to do if that's really the case!" With that, Canterbury turned and left the hall, leaving Catherine alone on the sofa, stunned.

"Your vigilance has become so low?" Jerry suddenly approached Catherine from behind, gently embraced her, and whispered softly in her ear, "I've been standing here quietly for several minutes, and you didn't even notice."

"Your Eminence… Canterbury's words just now… did you hear them all?" Catherine slowly turned her head, her eyes meeting Jerry's close face; she could even feel Jerry's breath gently brushing against her skin.

"Yes, I heard them," Jerry nodded gently, his eyes deep and calm, "His words, not all right, but not all wrong either."

"Catherine, what kind of person do you think I am?"

"I think, you might… not be a good person in the traditional sense!" Catherine was slightly stunned, pondered for a moment, and then slowly spoke.

"A good person?" Jerry couldn't help but chuckle, "Who are you calling that!"

"I admit, Canterbury is right in some ways, and I also have many shortcomings," Jerry continued honestly, "But do you think that your grandfather, the old fox Kevin Phares, who has been the Archbishop for so many years, wouldn't think of these things that he can think of?"

A complex expression appeared on Catherine's face, and she slowly said, "I just want to know what you think, Your Eminence."

She paused, and then added, "Although my relationship with my grandfather isn't close, but…"

"I know," Jerry sighed softly in his heart, cursing inwardly, 'Damn Canterbury, you have nothing better to do in the middle of the night than cause me trouble!'

During the day, Jerry felt that Canterbury's gaze towards him was strange; fortunately, he was cautious enough; sure enough, this dog was undermining him in secret, framing him!

"Catherine, I'll be honest with you, I have always been wary of the three Apostles families.

But please believe that no matter what the future holds, I will do everything I can to protect you and your family," Jerry gently turned Catherine's body around, placing his hands firmly on her shoulders, allowing her to see the sincerity and determination in his eyes.

Jerry swore, no tricks, all it was all emotions!

"If you still don't believe me," Jerry gently took the necklace from Catherine's neck and picked up the ring, "Then, I am willing to put this ring on you now, as my promise to you."

However, just as Jerry was about to bring the ring close to Catherine's slender finger, Catherine suddenly reached out another hand, gently and firmly grasping Jerry's wrist.

"No, Your Eminence, I believe you," she smiled, her eyes sparkling with trust and reliance, "Your words are enough for me."

"As for my ring… wait until all the sacrifices have been collected, and at the sacred moment of the Ascension Ritual, you can personally put it on for me!"
