Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity

#13 - Magic is a miracle of belief

As the surprise and joy of rediscovery subsided, Neville stared at Roger for a few seconds, remembering that he had seen him before.

At St. Mungo's, when he went to visit his parents, he had accidentally seen a young wizard of the same age, and he had glanced at him a few more times, and he turned back to give him a friendly smile.

Although he remembered, Neville didn't use this as an excuse to strike up a conversation with Roger.

Neville was a slightly introverted child.

After settling his luggage, Roger took out two books and started reading.

Seeing Roger so engrossed, occasionally underlining and circling and writing notes in both books, Neville was too embarrassed to bother him simply to pass the boring time during the train journey.

Even when Hannah, who was equally bored, tried to talk to him, he responded quietly, afraid of disturbing Roger.

Until…

Roger's gaze lifted from the book, his pen stopped, and he looked towards the carriage door.

He had noticed a gaze.

A little girl with thick curly hair and a pretty face was standing at the carriage door, staring wide-eyed through the glass window of the door at Roger's book.

Neville, who was constantly paying attention to Roger, noticed Roger's actions and turned his head in the direction of Roger's gaze.

Then he stood up, opened the carriage door, and asked the girl standing at the door, "Are you unable to find a place to sit?"

Neville's introversion only meant that he wasn't very good at interacting with people, but he was a warm-hearted person, and he was always happy to help others in action, and he was brave.

"No, I'm just curious what that is, is it a spell, a magical item, or…" The curly-haired girl raised her hand towards Roger.

"My name is Hermione, Hermione Granger. Could you please tell me?" When asking others for knowledge, she always had a respectful attitude.

Because in her opinion, knowledge was a precious thing, and she didn't like to belittle it.

Respect for knowledge suppressed the instinctive reaction she wanted to show when contacting unfamiliar young wizards.

"Are you talking about this?" As Roger spoke, the book in front of him turned a page automatically without any wind.

"Yes!" Hermione's face was full of interest.

But Hannah and Neville didn't react to this phenomenon.

Hermione, like Roger, had parents who were Muggles, and she had suddenly awakened as a wizard. She had never been exposed to magic before, and naturally she was full of curiosity when entering a strange 'new world'.

In Hermione's view, who was a straight-A student since her Muggle school days, the best way to understand a strange group was naturally to read books.

She bought a lot of books from Flourish and Blotts and read them every day. It was common for her fingers to be cut by the edges of the pages. If she had Roger's ability to turn pages automatically, it would be much more comfortable… It's summer now, and wearing gloves is too hot. She doesn't want sweaty hands.

Neville and Hannah, who were born into wizarding society, one from a pure-blood family and the other with some pure-blood lineage, were not surprised.

Not to mention books that could turn pages automatically, they had even heard of books that could bite people.

Curious? A little, but they were too lazy to get to the bottom of it. There were too many strange things and magical items in the magical world. They had long been desensitized to them. Unless it was the type of 'too weird, what the heck is that?', they generally wouldn't explore it.

Roger didn't play coy with Hermione's question, but gave a very straightforward answer: "The Levitation Charm."

"Open the first-year Hogwarts textbook 'Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1'. The first spell in the opening chapter is very simple, low in danger, and very suitable for beginner wizards."

"The spell is, Wingardium Leviosa." As he spoke, Roger hooked his finger, and the book floated slightly, and with a swipe, the page turned.

Roger didn't hate answering questions for others. While imparting knowledge to others, he was also sorting out the knowledge he had already mastered, checking for omissions and filling in gaps.

If you find that your knowledge cannot be taught to others, there are generally two situations: one is that you have not completely mastered this knowledge at all, and the other is that the difference in cognitive or intellectual level between the two parties is too great.

"Are you casting a spell? You… you didn't use a wand, and you didn't chant!" Hermione, who was a Muggle not long ago, had her face full of disbelief.

"Wandless magic. The wand greatly enhances your ability to communicate with magic during the casting process. Wandless magic only requires you to put more concentration into the casting process. Silent spells, the method of casting spells by silently chanting the spell in your heart, requires you to have an in-depth understanding of the spell, and if your concentration and understanding of the spell reach the pinnacle, you don't even need to chant the spell in your heart, a thought is magic."

Its specific manifestation is somewhat similar to the scene where Harry Potter and his cousin visited the zoo, and the magic riot caused the glass in front of the snake to disappear.

However, it doesn't have much value in actual combat. Surely magic blessed by wands and spells is stronger, even if it's just to cover up your fighting intentions, a silent spell is enough, and casting spells with your mind is completely unnecessary.

"Of course, I haven't reached that level. I'm only using wandless and silent spells. I can only use the Levitation Charm in a wandless and silent way."

"? ? ?"

Roger's words stunned not only Hermione, but even Hannah and Neville.

Whether it was wandless magic or silent magic, they knew a little about it. Those were skills that only a few talented wizards could master!

Roger's words, in their ears, were like: 'Want to become a music master? Learn music theory, memorize the timbre of the instrument, grasp the rhythm, and inject emotions to increase the tension.'

It's easy to say, but it's too difficult to do!

Seeing their expressions, Roger shook his head and continued, "Don't over-mythologize some things. The power of magic is almost miraculous, and it is connected to the soul."

"Believe in magic, believe in yourself, combine knowledge with practice, and magic will not fail those who love it."

"If you don't believe that you can do it, then you really can't."

In Roger's view, the magic of this world is very special.

It's not like cultivating immortality or martial arts, which depends on innate roots and spiritual roots, nor is it like some magic, which requires elemental affinity and mental power attributes.

What it needs is the power of the will of the soul.

It's a bit similar to Haki in 'One Piece'. If you think you can do it, it can give you miracles. If your will is decadent, then you will be beaten up by new pirates like some of the disgraced Shichibukai whose strength has plummeted!

Just like Snape, after the 'Savior' appeared, his ambition was gone, and the Half-Blood Prince, who was advancing by leaps and bounds on the path of magic, became an ordinary potions teacher.

"If you are interested in studying magic in depth, I suggest you practice the Levitation Charm more."

Roger's gaze shifted from Hermione to Neville and Hannah.

"This spell requires you to cast spells continuously, which can greatly train your concentration on magic, and when you can cast spells without a wand, it becomes advanced 'weighted' training. Learning the silent Levitation Charm and integrating it into your life can also train your ability to manipulate magic with precision."

After answering the question and giving advice, Roger raised his hand, and the two books on the table floated back into his bag.

The two books that Roger put back, one was a first-year History of Magic textbook, and the other was a Muggle world history. During his leisure time, he liked to compare the two books with each other, and then refer to his past life memories and the knowledge indirectly reflected in the book given by Professor McGonagall.

To find out how much of the content in these two histories has been 'modified', it's like a decryption game, which can bring Roger a lot of fun.

"Neville, Hannah, I have a question I want to ask you."

Reading was interrupted, so Roger didn't continue, but suddenly thought of something.

"We will be sorted into four houses after we enter school. Which one do you want to go to?"

The train is about to arrive at the station, and the Sorting Ceremony is just around the corner.

This Sorting Ceremony will have a very important impact on Roger's academic career for the next 7 years, so although Roger has an 80-90% certainty, he still wants to make a final confirmation before the time comes.
