Hogwarts White Knight
Chapter 11 Staring into Gawain’s Abyss
Appearing in this shop was not what Gawain expected, but when he took Hermione back to Florin's shop, a large family had already filled the small shop. There were seven or eight of them, and they all had flaming red hair.
Although the middle-aged man who should be the father was greeting him warmly and wanted to invite the two of them to sit down together.
But Gawain still declined.
He has never been good at dealing with this kind of excessive enthusiasm.
Regarding Hermione, he asked her to describe her father's clothes under the guise of "in case uncle comes over, let him rest here" and asked his boss Florin to help pay attention to it. He didn't want to take Hermione standing on the street to bask in the sun, so he found a store to browse.
As for why you chose this store?
Hermione didn't want to go too far from Florin's shop, but the two of them couldn't go to the nearest Obstherus Publishing House or Mrs. Primpine's Beauty Potion Shop. Out of some subtle idea, Gawain avoided the travel agency called "Horror Tour".
"Puff Rong. Give it something to eat every now and then, and it won't starve to death. In a sense, children should all like this kind of pet."
Seemingly noticing Gawain's eyes, the female boss answered lazily.
"You can take a look around and tell me what you want to buy."
Obviously, she was not optimistic about Gao Wen's desire to buy, and waved her hand listlessly.
Gawain felt much more relaxed.
"Speaking of which, Gawain, how did you receive the letter from Hogwarts? The day before yesterday, an owl crashed straight into the window of my house, which almost scared Jennifer. She is still a little afraid. Believe in magic and wizards, these things are actually real. Did you also help Professor McGonagall explain it to your family?"
Perhaps because she was relaxed, Hermione lowered her voice but spoke quickly.
This was the first time she had someone to share things about the magical world with, and she was inevitably excited.
"Yeah...sort of. That's about it."
Gawain answered with a guilty conscience, but what else could he say...
Did I almost kill myself?
Do I blow myself up?
Or have I never seen a fat chicken with a round face?
In response to Gawain's perfunctory answer, Hermione raised her eyebrows and shook her head.
"Do you know what Hogwarts is like? I just saw the book "Hogwarts: A History of the School" in the bookstore. It records many things that you would never imagine!"
Hermione fumbled around in her bag, pulled out a thick book, and spread it out on the low table next to her.
She turned to one of the pages.
"It says here that Hogwarts used to be a 'Muggle'," Hermione pointed at herself and Gawain, "it was a noble castle for ordinary people like us, but later it was cast with complex magic and could no longer be used. Observed from the outside. Can you imagine? What a place that was like?"
"Uh..." Regarding this question, Gawain said that he was a little embarrassed.
Because not only did he know it, but he had been there and slept with it.
It's just that the place where I woke up is a little strange.
"Look, this cat is so cute."
Gawain rolled his neck, trying to find a way to change the subject, so he grabbed a kitten that jumped onto the shelf from the side and wanted to throw it onto Hermione's open book. This is a Bombay cat, about as long as Gawain's forearm. It is completely black, with short hair that is smooth and shiny, and has a pair of golden eyes.
The cat didn't panic when he was suddenly picked up. Instead, it put its paws on Gawain's sleeves and refused to let go. Its eyes narrowed and it purred.
It's not so much a cat as it is a little thief who took advantage of him.
It was Gawain who brought it upon himself.
"Let go, the buttons will fall off!"
Gawain raised his arm little by little and pointed at the kitten with his free left hand, trying to let it go.
But the cat was not afraid and remained unmoved at all. It stepped on Hermione's open book, put its front feet on Gawain's sleeves, and rubbed its round head against his left hand, looking like it was enjoying itself.
"Push."
Hermione, who was watching from the sidelines, couldn't help laughing. Seeing Gawain's helpless expression, she stretched out her left hand, hugged the black cat's body, and gently stroked the fur with her right hand.
Only then did the black cat let go of Gawain, but its little head still leaned in front of his hand and stretched out its pink tongue to lick it.
"My neighbor has a short-haired cat, and every time she gets angry, she does this."
Hermione turned to explain. Maybe it's because this technique doesn't match her usual image and she looks a little embarrassed.
"Thank you, Jane."
Gawain said sincerely, imitating her and touching the black cat, making it purr and show its chin.
But Hermione didn't respond.
She pointed to a middle-aged man dragging a box outside the window with an anxious look on his face. The man was wearing a light yellow shirt and tie and was looking around.
"My dad is here!"
She said excitedly, quickly closed the book and stuffed it back into her backpack, then took it and held it with both hands.
"Gawain, do you want to come with us? I think he will want to thank you in person."
Hermione felt a little embarrassed when she thought that she had gritted her teeth and insisted that she was not separated.
"Next time, it's not suitable for me to visit my uncle like this." Gawain shook his head, pointed to the black cat hair on his chest, and shook his cuffs that were scratched by the black cat, "Ask for me. Hello, we will see you again when school starts."
"Okay. Then we'll see you at the beginning of school."
Hermione hesitated, wanting to say something more.
But when she saw her father's worried expression, she hurriedly ran outside the store.
"What a magical day, isn't it?"
Looking at Hermione's back, Gawain shook his head and gently touched the little black cat.
The black cat raised his head and glanced at him. He purred as if he wanted to say, "You are right," or simply to express that he felt comfortable, "Who knows what you want to say."
"Well, I'll take it as your consent."
Gawain smiled and flicked the black cat's head, causing it to raise its right front paw with some dissatisfaction and pat Gawain's arm gently with its pink flesh ball.
This is not a difficult decision to make.
After consulting the boss and paying 8 gold galleons, Gawain took away the one-year-old little guy and named him "Abyss". It's not because the black cat symbolizes ominousness, wizards, mystery, evil spirits and other nonsense, but every time Gawain looks at it, it always looks back as if it's sensing something.
After all, some short German with a grumpy but reasonable voice once said it.
"When you're staring into the abyss,
The abyss is also staring at you.”
ps: Hogwarts was formerly the family castle of Slytherin, one of the Big Four.
