Hogwarts Melting Ice Journey
Chapter 72 A chance encounter in the library
"Stephen, where did Professor Case go today? The school has not arranged for other professors to take over the class."
After finishing History of Magic on Wednesday, Stephen and Rowan came to Professor Keyes's office, but no one answered their knocks.
Stephen shrugged, "I'm afraid only Professor Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall know this. Let's go. Since Professor Case is not here, we can only go to the library to find the answer."
Rowan looked at the closed office door and sighed, "Well, I originally planned to ask Professor Case about dark magic, but he was not here."
"Maybe he is not willing to answer us in detail what we want to ask." Stephen took out his pocket watch and checked the time, "We can still stay in the library for two hours, if we want to have dinner."
"Then I think we still have enough time to squander it for a while, but it's better to hurry up." Rowan started running in the corridor.
"I hope Filch won't add another rule about not running in the corridors." Stephen shook his head, preparing to follow Rowan. "Speaking of him, maybe I should let him try using chalk."
The two came to the library. Mrs. Pince was sitting in her seat reading a book. When Stephen passed by, he glanced at it. It seemed to be a Muggle fairy tale book.
"Does Mrs. Pince still have this kind of hobby?" Stephen just glanced at the book titles and walked deeper into the library, but not to go to the area, but to find a book about alchemy.
By the time he found a compendium of medieval alchemy and came to the long table, Rowan was already sitting there writing notes.
Stephen opened the book he was holding. As the title says, this is a summary. The whole book is full of catalogs, function introductions, hand-drawn illustrations, and the most fatal thing is that some of them are written in Latin. For Stephen, this is It's a heavenly book.
Stephen closed the book helplessly, then stood up to put it back on the bookshelf. When he arrived there, he happened to see his acquaintance Merula Snyder.
"Merula" Stephen whispered, but in the quiet library, the usual whisper was a kind of noise here.
Merula turned to look at Stephen, with a hint of surprise in her eyes, but she didn't say anything, but took a book out of the bookshelf, and then left the bookshelf.
Stephen first put back the summary of medieval alchemy in his hand, and then walked to where Merula had just taken the book.
"Dark Power Self-Defense Guide to Black Magic Cracking Instructions, well...this book is about the many harms of the Unforgivable Curse." Stephen glanced at the book next to him, which was all about black magic defense.
"Isn't she really borrowing these to study how to defend against dark magic?" Stephen found it strange. Generally speaking, Slytherin students prefer magic that suits their ambitions, and black magic suits their needs very well. .
"Forget it, everyone is different. You can't easily judge a person because of the stereotype of the academy." Stephen shook his head, "If she is really willing to study these, then why stop her."
Stephen wandered around the bookshelf area for a while, but did not see the book he wanted to read, so he had to return to the long table and prepare to continue studying Jacob's notebook.
But at the long table, he saw Merula sitting not far from Rowan, reading the book she had just borrowed.
Stephen glanced curiously, then sat down, took out his notebook and began to study.
Rowan raised his head and looked around. He also saw Merula sitting not far away. Her mouth opened in surprise, but she quickly closed it and continued to read her book.
Nearly an hour later, Stephen stretched. He looked at Merula's position and found that she had fallen asleep, and the book was being used as a pillow under her face.
Stephen knocked on the table, and Rowan looked up at Stephen with a hint of curiosity in his eyes. Stephen pointed in the direction of Merula, Rowan looked in the direction he pointed, and then took out a piece of paper that said "Should we wake her up?"
Stephen thought for a moment, shook his head, then took out his wand to turn the note into a cloak, draped it around Merula, then sat back down and continued to add his research notes.
"If the process of magic conversion is that the soul generates magic power that flows from the body to the wand and is emitted by the wand, then how does Jacob's method reduce the loss?" Stephen was still thinking about this just now. He had been using it for an hour, but he still No clue.
"And the conditions for using many spells require emotional stimulation, but in his research, they rely more on stable emotions or even no emotions." Stephen turned his notes to the part about trick spells, "And These spells are the best example, they don’t require emotions, they only require appropriate spells and actions to use, and they are simpler than other magics.”
Stephen closed the note, closed his eyes and rested for a while, then he suddenly thought of something and hurriedly turned over Jacob's note to the last part.
"Research on magic riots." Stephen looked at the title, which was the last part of the note, but Jacob only left a title on it, "If the source of magic is the soul, then why did magic riots occur?"
Stephen felt that this was probably the answer he was going to find in the end, but before that, he had to find a way to continue to reduce the magic power required to use the spell.
It was soon going to be dinner time. Stephen and Rowan packed their things and got up to leave. But Merula seemed to have really fallen asleep, and she still didn't look like she was about to wake up.
Stephen and Rowan looked at each other, and after communicating for a while, Stephen walked to Merula's position and shook her.
"No, don't" Merula shouted, startling Stephen. Making such a loud noise in the library would be wanted by Mrs. Pince.
"Quiet." Mrs. Pince seemed to be stepping on the wind, and appeared around them within a few seconds.
"Sorry, Mrs. Pince." Stephen apologized repeatedly before letting Mrs. Pince leave.
Merula still looked like she had just woken up, and Stephen looked at her helplessly. Sure enough, nothing good would happen when he met her.
"Stephen" Merula looked at the person in front of her drowsily, then woke up instantly, and her voice immediately became extremely vigilant, "What are you going to do?"
"It's dinner time, if you don't want to go to the restaurant you can go back to sleep."
Merula felt as if she was wearing something. She looked down and took off the cloak.
"Thank you." Merula threw the cloak to Stephen, then hurriedly left the library with the book.
"Weird." Rowan complained as he watched Merula hurriedly leave.
"Let's go." Stephen shrugged. He seemed to see that Merula's eye frames seemed to be very red, maybe it was caused by sleeping on her stomach for a long time.
