Chapter 35 Newt Scamander
The twins watched in surprise as Regulus covered his left forearm and hurriedly left the office.
"Is there really a big problem with that rat?"
"Maybe Ronnie will become a big devil."
The two of them had no clue.
Of course, in the end, they did not go to the History of Magic classroom to listen to the next half of the class, but chose to explore unknown corners of the castle.
Regulus had no time to care whether the twins went to class or not.
If Ron's rat was indeed Peter Pedillo, someone had contacted him weeks ago.
With Peter's caution, this person must make him feel safe.
People like the Malfoy family, Avery, and Yaxley had already paved their way out. Not only were they not sent to Azkaban, but they were able to thrive and have enough to eat and drink.
Igor Karkaroff even became the headmaster of Durmstrang.
From this point of view, Snape's ability to be the dean of Hogwarts can only be regarded as a sign of humiliation.
Peter would definitely not take refuge in these people, because he could not guarantee whether these people would backhand sell him in exchange for a Order of Merlin medal.
Most of Voldemort's diehard loyalists have already entered Azkaban, such as Bellatrix and Dolohov.
From this point of view, the target range is actually very small.
Regulus did not dare to neglect. From his point of view, if there was only one person in the world who was determined to destroy Voldemort, it was Dumbledore.
He rushed to the door of the principal's office. Before he could explain his purpose, the gargoyle guarding the door jumped aside automatically and gave way to the spiral staircase behind.
Regulus took three steps at a time and hurried up the stairs.
Besides Dumbledore, there were two other people in the principal's office.
One of them was a middle-aged wizard with a medium build, a square face and a wide chin, and thick straw-colored hair. He was talking to Dumbledore.
Regulus had not seen him before.
The other one was Snape, who frowned and pursed his lips without saying a word.
"Stogy, remember, if anything happens, make sure you let me know as soon as possible." Dumbledore whispered.
"I understand." The wizard looked serious.
Then, Snape sent the wizard known as Stork away, and before leaving the door, he glanced at Regulus with a complicated look.
"You knew I would come to find you?" Regulus asked doubtfully after the door to the principal's office closed again.
"You are the third person to come to me today." Dumbledore turned to Regulus, "Looking at your expression, has something happened?"
"As for what I said before about Sirius, I think I have found the real traitor." Regulus walked to Dumbledore's desk and said seriously with his hands on the table.
"Let me guess, Peter Pedro, right?" Dumbledore's back left the back of the chair, and he crossed his hands and rested them in front of him.
"You already knew this?" Regulus asked doubtfully.
"Just a guess." Dumbledore shook his head slightly, "How did you find out?"
Regulus recounted his analysis to Dumbledore, including a brief conversation when he visited Sirius in prison.
"A reasonable explanation, so you left school in the afternoon just to catch Peter?
"Yes."
"Accident?"
"He had already run away with someone as early as the first day of school. The Weasleys were under a confusion spell and couldn't remember what that person looked like." Regulus said bitterly.
"Perhaps it is a forgetting spell, and then a forged memory is implanted." Dumbledore's expression also became solemn, "A wizard who can do this quietly is not an ordinary character."
"Give me some time and I will catch him." After saying that, Regulus prepared to leave the office.
"No, Regulus, I think it is necessary to let you know about the two things that happened recently." Dumbledore said calmly, "Please sit down."
A chair suddenly appeared next to Regulus. Regulus sat down with a complicated expression and waited quietly for Dumbledore to speak.
"Where to start...earlier today, there was a break-in in a village in Devon." Dumbledore began to describe, "Someone was trying to find a house that didn't exist on the map. and unleashed a host of destructive spells in that area."
"This..." Regulus was confused, "Is it related to Peter?"
"Maybe it has nothing to do with it. Maybe, as the person handling this matter at the Ministry of Magic said, the wizard who caused the trouble was just drunk and using magic randomly." Dumbledore's tone was very calm, "After all, there is nothing but lawns and woods. Outside, there’s nothing.”
Regulus stopped talking. He knew that the matter must not be that simple. Dumbledore would not pay attention to the drunkard's drunken madness and specifically single it out.
Sure enough, Dumbledore's next words surprised Regulus.
"But I know that there is indeed a house there that cannot be marked on the map. It is protected by the Loyalty Charm, and the secret keeper... is me."
Dumbledore stopped talking and seemed to be watching Regulus' reaction with a smile, but there was no smile in his sharp blue eyes.
Regulus frowned.
This person's identity was obviously very important, so Dumbledore personally protected him with a spell.
The intruder obviously had an urgent need to find that person, so he would not hesitate to risk being caught and invade by force.
"Could it be..." A not so good thought gradually took shape.
Just as he was about to speak, a flame suddenly lit up in the principal's office.
Then, the phoenix emerged from the flames.
Appearing together with the phoenix, there was also a thin old man with silver hair and a strong spirit, holding the phoenix's tail feathers in his hand.
Seeing the old man, Dumbledore stood up from his chair and gave him a warm hug.
"Newt, my old friend, it's so nice to see you."
Newt tilted his head unnaturally and simply stretched out his hand to pat Dumbledore on the back.
"This is Newt Scamander. You must have read his books, right?" Dumbledore introduced the old man's identity to Regulus.
Regulus quickly stood up and paid his respects.
Regulus still knew something about this renowned magical biologist.
Unlike other types of academic research, you cannot study magical creatures without excellent skills. Those things are not cats and dogs kept in zoos.
Although he may not look amazing, Newt Scamander is definitely a powerful wizard who deserves respect.
Over there, Dumbledore and Newt were already chatting.
"...Hagrid has been wanting to talk to you. He said that you were wrong when you said in the latest edition of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" that there are no acromantula gathering places in Scotland."
"Come on, if I said in the book that there are two thousand Acromantulas in the Forbidden Forest of Hogwarts, how many parents do you think would make their children withdraw from school?" Newt said seriously.
"I thought you liked them too?" Dumbledore smiled.
"I like them, but it doesn't mean they are not dangerous. Not everyone has professional knowledge." Newt shook his head and spoke quickly. Then he took something out of his coat pocket and handed it to Dumbledore, "I received a letter from Eddie. He went to France to investigate. In the previous break-in incident in Paris, this was indeed the house that was destroyed."
Regulus saw what Newt was holding. It was a card the size of a playing card, with an arrow on it that looked like a pointing sign. It had lost its luster.
"Is there really a big problem with that rat?"
"Maybe Ronnie will become a big devil."
